    Back when the government was offering the coyote bounty, and coyotes were being exterminated using every imaginable method, they found out something interesting; that the coyotes simply responded by dispersing further, having larger litters, lower mortality due to coyote predation, starvation, disease and exposure. So the key to the entire process is the prey population. If you want a large deer herd, or a large population of whatever species you are cultivating for harvest; a large coyote population will simply happen in sync with it. And there are actually some tremendous health issues that arise in the prey species if predation is lacking and the numbers and genetic diversity are not controlled by some other means. All that being said, I have zero problems with this type or scale or predator control. It is a method that had even been used in deer management when and where appropriate. But, the primary key to keeping a heathly predator population is just the same as for deer. Remove the weak and sickly ones. Target the ones with mange when you are hunting. Don't pass a shot because the pelt won't be good. It's the same issue that arises when you only target the biggest bucks and shoot only the biggest, fattest does. Deer management experts know this very well, and the same methods should be used with coyotes to moderate the numbers of very healthy, well fed coyotes.

      Very true, a big problem is that in many states deer are being hunted at a healthy rate but the predators are still in high numbers I don't know the specifics of his state but im sure these hunts are being sanctioned for a reason. In my state the deer population is ridiculously high because people think they are cute and feed them to keep them on their property not taking the time to do a little bit of research. Lime disease has been a steady high rise due to this and cars hitting deer is super high. We are seeing a ton of new predators coming into the are and roaming the suburbs because the deer rather live there where they are fed by people. My state is paying property owners to let hunters hunt for deer on their land but they are refusing because deer are soooo cute but the state is trying to teach them that they are actually harming more than helping.

      Well said!!! I wish everyone that watches the video would read this post.
      We may take a large number of them out of an area. But the population always rebounds year to year. But the deer, turkey, small prey definitely benefited from the hunt! Not to mention the farmers calfs and lambs!

    • @km6731
      @km6731 2 года назад

      @@JordansHarvest the population always rebounds because of the timing of the hunt. Do this hunt not in the fall, and it might take a couple years for the population to rebound. March would probably be the best month.

    • @rocket5557
      @rocket5557 Год назад +2

      You could reintroduce wolves also. That would truly bring the balance back. It definitely brought the elk population back into check in Montana. I would surmise it also significantly reduced the coyote population.
      I don’t believe that a species is able to increase the size of their litters in response to trapping and hunting. I just believe without threat of natural predation an intelligent and adaptable animal like the coyote will take full advantage.

    • @Nick-sx6jm
      @Nick-sx6jm Год назад +7

      @@rocket5557 Reintroducing wolves is a horrible idea unless your goal is to wipe out game species. There are so many hunters today that we have really taken over the predator roles for the most part. Here in WI they did it back in the 90's and recently they have exploded in numbers. My family has 720 acres in the middle of WI and we had a healthy heard of deer (around 150 15 years ago as well as turkey flocks as big as 400 that would pass through) after wolves moved in they decimated all wildlife and now we have maybe 1/3 of the deer that dont look as healthy because they are constantly chased around and 12 resident turkeys. We dont even want to shoot does anymore because there are so few and if they have fawns they are wolf food without their mom. Eradicate predators and control prey by tag numbers or other incentives.

      Actually not a new thing. Other than "main stream" people finding out that these drives occur. People in (at least) the Great Plains states have been doing these drives for over a century. Although, admittedly, during the past 75 years they have been mostly done by the Amish. Non Amish hunters turned to using other means of hunting coyotes, such as with vehicles and sighthounds or calling them.😎

      Shoot them in the guts, and you won't have to drag them off. We do the same thing to wild hogs, too. Coyotes kill our chickens and small,medium-sized dogs. The nasty wild hogs will try to attack you if a dog is around you. They root up the woods damaging trees, causing topsoil to be washed out into creeks and will ruin pasture and hay patches

      They could come back in 1 or 2 years and take that many coyotes off the same land that they killed these on because the females fart out
      6-8 new ones every spring. There is no chance of this type of coyote control could ever cause them to become extinct.
      Coyotes multiply like roaches and when they kill off all the ground dwelling creatures they have effectively eaten themselves out of house and home and they keep breeding so they start going after livestock and pets. Never mind that there are a lot of people that hunt deer mainly for meat and when they hardly ever see any because the coyotes have killed off large amounts of the deer herd then it doesn’t take long before effective tactics like this are used to get coyote numbers under control. It is NOT natural or normal for coyotes to be in peoples yards in the middle of the day trying to kill pets,chickens or any thing else they can get and show no fear of humans.
