Just wait until you dive into the joys of winter wild camping. Fair adds up to some hefty weight with ice axes and crampons etc added in to camera gear and camping gear! Winter means no midges and no hayfever at least! Wildcamping really opens up those opportunities for capturing footage at sunset and sunrise! Absolutely epic! Loving the new video! Feels like an opening up of even more filming and photography options.
Dare say I might have to try the winter camping, no hayfever and midges sounds good. Downside is the extra weight though, I can imagine that must be a heavy pack! Look forward to seeing some decent sunrise/sunsets.. like you say it opens up a bit more options for filming 😁 Atb, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney winter really is a wild and atmospheric experience camping out in them mountains! But yeah, I've become a bit of an 'ultralight' nerd in winter. I shoot on a GoPro mostly so camera weight is minimal, but 12 to 14kg is pretty common for a basic winter overnight pack. Even more if ropes and trad gear are necessary 😬 then there's the whole getting dark at 4pm issue, and freezing outside your tent admiring the view...apart from that, it's amazing!
Well done pal👏🏻 that was a some effort especially with the heavy rack sack and filming 👍🏻 but I agree with Ross that u shoulda pitched next to ur bike and left ur camping gear there… but hey it’s a learning curve for ur first wild camp and one u won’t forget😎! I’ll have to do that 4 soon👍🏻
Thanks Steve, this was an adventure and a half 😂 yeah that was a big mistake, kinda wanted a bit of practice taking bag around but didn’t realise how hard it was going to be.. Yeah mate, at least you know what your in for now 😂👍
Just spoke to Gregor on Twitch. He mentioned you guys met up today and you said thanks for my comments. You're most welcome mate. I love the videos and the great editing. Looking forward to more, and maybe one day climbing a munro myself!
Well done James, good effort that. I can't help thinking that walking with poles would be a game changer for you, especially with the heavy pack. They makes such a difference! More wild camps to come I'm sure 👏👍⛰️🏕️
Nice one James. Tough wee trip, but ye cannae beat a wild camp. And the beers in the river 😁🍻 Over the years my gear has got lighter & lighter. You'll get there eventually 👍
Good walk and camp. Very impressive! High production value, shots, music and B-roll. Your subscriber count doesn’t do you justice, sure it will soon! Great work, thanks for sharing
Great video, I did these 4 Munro’s the same day as you! That’s my VW campervan you passed parked up at the end car park. We had 2 vehicles & didn’t camp! It was a tough round & exhausting heat climbing up the 1st Munro! I didn’t video due to the time restrictions. Well done. 👍
Great effort, it's a tough day this round. If you had pitched at your bike, you could have left your tent up and your camping gear in it. Don't think I would have managed it with a full kit :-)
It certainly was tough, I did think about doing that, but went for the more ‘wild’ experience, instantly regretted it .. 😂 thanks for watching Atb, James
Blimey, well done... that's some effort carrying a two-man tent and all the rest of the gear over 5 peaks. Definitely worth going with a 1-man tent (you can still squeeze your gear in at night) and investing in the lightest sleeping pad and sleeping bag you can get.
Really enjoyed that video. Thanks for all the work involved in putting it up. Yes I remember the trip I learned the difference between a day pack and an overnight pack. It's unbelievable how much harder it is! Still trying to find the winning formula cause you can't beat adding in an overnight stay 🙂
Well done sir, remember it’s sometimes an ordeal whilst doing it but always an adventure looking back. I think the real beauty of the Munros is they take a lot of effort.
Loving the videos mate, really well edited and really informative. Believe it or not I just ticked off my 75th this weekend, Beinn Dearg (Blair Atholl). Do I sense an Invernesian accent?
Thanks! This was a bit of a challenge to film with the huge pack 😳.. well done! Not done that one yet.. You sure do, didn’t think my accent was that strong 😂 Atb, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney I'm originally from that neck of the woods so I can pick up even the faintest of accents, especially when I am now surrounded by Central Belters.
Well done on first solo wild camp. So want to try it but paranoid about gear and what to take etc. I will get round to it eventually! Another 4 in the bag.
Thanks Andrew, I bought all the gear about a year ago and it took me a while to build up the courage to actually do it 😁 was well worth it though, even though I struggled a bit 😂 Atb, James
Hi James, if I'm taking the tent and carrying it the whole way on a big day I will usually do a summit camp, you don't get the midges and you're able to split the journey over 2 or more day's. ATP Jim.
@@ScottishMunroJourney Hi James... Yes we never stop learning.... I remember thinking I was taking a short cut on my last Munro and ended up in a bog that added hours, hope you're knee is getting better. Atb Jim. 👍
Great video James.Have these ones looked out for a while and planning to go in with 2 cars or if that doesn't pan out,i will take the bike and drop it at the end for a cycle back to the car.Is the road quite level and not too many ups and downs?🙄👍
Great video as always 🙏 Have you considered trail running shoes for longer days such as this? They're really a blessing on the feet when the terrain is fairly straightforward
Thanks for watching Lee, Funny you say that, I am looking to get some trail running shoes, my boots are way too heavy/warm for this time of year! Have you got any recommendations? Cheers, James
@@ScottishMunroJourney I don't have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to trail runners as I've only tried out Adidas Terrex pairs so far, but right now I'm using Terrex two ultra primeblue and they've been great. I completed the ring of steall wearing them without so much as a blister or foot discomfort. The only negative is they aren't waterproof but personally I'd rather sacrifice that over heavy duty footwear.
It was hard work carrying al your gear. Think about leaving it somewhere to pick up on your return: see Scotlands Mountains Channel. Murray does a lot of wild camping. Great effort and keep your entertaining videos coming.
I should have camped at the start of the Circuit.. Yes Murray’s channel is fantastic, makes wild camping look easy 😂 I have made a few improvements to my system, as you will see in my next vid 😁 Cheers, James
Why did you not camp near the bike drop off and leave all your camping gear to collect when you got back down? I don't like carrying big weights and would much rather do long days to avoid it.

A great video on some we've still to do. Thanks for uploading and showing us the hills. Can I suggest ear plugs for the next trip. Lots of ways to lighten your pack for next time. Check out Darwin onthetrail and Dixie's channel Homemade Wanderlust for backpacking tips. To check out the flatness of the ground take a plastic water bottle to put on the ground and use for a spirit level. 🏴⛰👍
Nice video, my friend! Lovely camp! The nature is amazing, too...Whst area is that? Enjoyed watching. Cheers from Russia, Munro 😊 , and how about visiting my channel as well? I've got something to share about bushcraft 😉! Anyway, best wishes in your plans! Kind regards, Yuriy!
Superb shift👏👏👏👏
Well done champ that was some distance you covered 👍
