The Great Glen Canoe Trail - Part One. Scottish Canoe Trip. Beach Wild Camp. Loch Lochy.

- Опубликовано: 24 авг 2021
- In this video, our canoeing adventure along the Great Glen canoe trail in Scotland begins. Carrying all of our gear for the trip, we paddle along the Caledonian Canal and into the vast Loch Lochy where, after a taste of Scottish heavy rain and squally gusts, we spend our first night wild camping on a small shingle beach - a hearty dinner, a few laughs around the campfire and the sound of the waves lapping onto the shore to lull us off to sleep.
There are twelve of us on this trip, attempting to raise money for the Alzheimers Society. I would like two thank everybody who has already donated to this essential cause, we have already smashed our target, but with your help we can go further! - I’ll put a link below to the JustGiving page.
I will also put links to the RUclips channels and Instagram pages of the other guys who took part in this adventure - please go and check out their videos for their takes of the trip!
Drone shots by Simoneardleyart - thanks mate!
I hope you enjoy the video, part two will be up soon.
Thanks for watching.

Will be watching your version too 👍
@@ZXspectrum.. Me too!
How come Jax didn't make the trip? Is he too active for a canoe?
Waiting for yours!
@@ZXspectrum.. Same here, watched Richard Outdoors as well.
I did The Great Glen Way as a walk over 7 days in May 2018 with a group of 8 friends. As we were all nearly in our 60's decided to stay in hostels instead of camping! A wonderful memory seeing your videos and best bit was doing it as group. We were lucky, no midges and no rain 😂 xx
excellent, looks amazing, cant wait for the rest!
Was hoping that you went too Andy , hopefully next time
Andy can I say thank you very much mate for your kind donation, cheers buddy, Ant 👍
@@darrenharvey134 me 2, but he was sick for awhile so I was thinking that was the reason Andy wasn’t there
Was sad you weren’t there too Andy!

Thank you , Simon .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
22:08 you can drink thru a fly net Simon
When I was working in the Aussie outback I’d drink my water or coffee whisky wearing the net and it was fine :) jjst a wee tip
That beautiful looking bolete mushroom at the end. So jealous!
Finally we get to see under the hat! The exact same person. Superb video as always.
Scotland, it's a beautiful country when you can see it through the mist. Safe to say we've all been waiting with baited breath on this one mate.
Reckon i'd have practically inhaled those pies by the time lunch came around.
Great stuff Simon, was great to meet up and paddle with you. Lovely film, looking forward to the next instalment.👍🏼
19:00 you look 10 years younger without the hat! Well done, sir... we're all looking forward to the remaining installments!
He’s done a fantastic job of the first instalment hasn’t he Greg 👍
@@AntSurviveTheNight yes sir! And thank you for bringing this group of all-stars together for such a noble/worthy cause

I always enjoy watching your channel.. From the craftsmanship in the things that you build to your outdoor integrity. You would fit in perfectly over here in the states with all the wide open Spaces. Get your camera ready I want to see a clear picture of the Loch Ness monster LOL. Have fun.
Yeah Nessie did make a few appearances throughout the trip Joe 😆
@@AntSurviveTheNight Yeah, over here in the states all we ever get to see is blurry pictures. I’m hoping with all the RUclipsrs there someone gets a good one LOL it’ll make you famous. You guys have a great trip

Hello Metalhead. Yeah Simon really did his research and one of his mates told him about the first camping spot, fantastic! 👍
Who on earth would down vote this? Simon - another beautifully crafted video and great choice of background music. So looking forward. to the rest of the videos.
What a wonderful way to make memories. Thank you for taking us along. Can't wait to see more. Oh, and you are a handsome man with or without the hat. Lol.
How you manage to film like that as well as the days paddling is fantastic. It looks fantastic too...Same can't be said for your supper!!
Seeing that boat dragged on the gravel makes me wince!
Simon, you are far and away my favorite UK RUclipsr. Your choice of music, production values and flow of your videos are, as you British chaps like to say, "spot on, mate". Keep up the great work.
Thank you mate!
A long drive up Simon but a reasonable start. I gotta say some parts of those lochs just aren't visited by people are they unless your in a canoe? What an awesome trip - atmospheric as you say. Nice spot to camp and what a surprise Rick T. Well, a good cause. All the best. Mark
Absolutely fantastic, thank you.

4am, naturally, Bloke in the woods is what I do with my insomnia, but wishing I was back in Scotland under canvas. Really enjoyed that, but still haven’t worked out who the murderer’s going to be!
Glad I donated, missing my dad a lot x

Thank you and the other gentlemen for what you're doing. I have seen Alzheimers take away two of the sharpest minds I have ever known. One of which was my father. Much respect and thanks, to you all.

Thanks Simon , just what I need on my day off. That looked like a lot of fun . Just getting out with a bunch of friends especially in a Beautiful place like that.
That place was absolutely awesome and to see that C130 flying over . I have jumped out of those when I was in the 82nd airborne , that Brought back memories and that old style army helmet too. You are so lucky to go to places like that and to get to enjoy it. That corn beef looked good haven’t had that in a while.
Looking forward for part two, can’t wait.

What a treat your all giving us .
I have to say Simon, you along with a couple of other channels are my absolute favorites to watch!!! I watch all your videos several times with total enjoyment every time 🚣♀️😊💯
You were made for this! We just can’t get enough of the quality and knowledge that comes thru in your videos. I’ve emailed you on the chance that I can purchase one of your handmade buck saws when time allows you to make a batch of them. I like how you split up the canoe trip into several videos… just can’t get enough. We have already watched TA outdoors, Richard’s, and 🐜’s, and what a treat they were!!! Thank you all for being part of a great cause and taking time to reward us with great videos of your journey… Keep up the great work and stay safe out there. “See your soon”
That was a very short shot of your head Simon. 🤣🤣 Well done to all of those who raised so much money for a worthy cause. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 xx

Simon I can’t believe it you took your hat off I’m glad you didn’t shy away from it and only give us a split second but honestly it suits you without the hat it was a bit weird though Seeing you without it on.

A good giggle, if you don't fall in. G'day, Simon. Et al. Have lots of fun and stay safe.
Great stuff sir. Scotland is beautiful. I though there would have been more ceremony before the un-hatting. Brilliant. Loved it. Looking forward to the rest.

Simon what a Beautiful Expedition you guys put together. The scenery and the waterways just absolutely gorgeous. You did a wonderful job putting part one on video and the editing w/sound was spot on. Gosh if you tube was given out Emmys you would surly win one for this video. Can’t wait to see part two. 👍🏽🚣♂️🏆🎭
Hahaha - thank you Theresa!
Another great video! Looking forward to the next one. All of my ancestors immigrated from the UK (Scotland, Northern England, and Ireland) in the late 1600's and early 1700's and I love to watch these sorts of videos. They remind me quite a bit of the Appalachian Mountains in Western North Carolina where part of my family lives. Cheers and well wishes from across the pond in the US!
Suddenly, Lock Lochy has a pop-up community: SHINGLESIDE! Contact Midge Realty for a tour.😊😊 The videography and landscape are OUTSTANDING.
I’ve been looking forward to this!! Great video mate and can’t wait to see more. All the best 👍🙏❤️

Last time I was up around those parts my daughter wasn't even born, she was 26 a few weeks ago, WOW!
The sail was really moving that rig along nicely. Killer show👍🏻
Finally found time to get into these videos. It's a wee bit strange seeing you lot in places I know so well. Fantastic so far. I'm off to part two now. 🥃👍
Brings back some great memories
Hi Simon great to see you all out raising funds for your charity and having an amazing adventure however I try and use this platform to advise wild campers of issues to protect our environment as follows.
If you have to light fires please avoid the use of stones as they remain an eyesore for a long time and the countryside is proliferated with this eyesore, rather dig a small hole once checking it’s safe to light a fire in your chosen area and thereafter in the morning fill back soil or gravel any partly burned debris with backfill that way there is no eyesore just like they do in Sweden and other Nordic countries😀
We all have e responsibility to protect the environment so “leave no trace means what it says”
On the lighter side the midges are a natural deterrent to minimise toursist😂
Hope you all have a great adventure and stay safe.
Awesome vlog - great sense of comradery to go with amazing vistas. Long time subscriber, first time commenting, Cant wait to watch Ep 2. Thanks Simon.
You are exactly right, the hills make you feel small and insignificant. No bad thing 👍 could I recommend the Isle of Lewis/Harris and Isle of Skye next 😍
A great trip for a great cause! Very impressive sail too. I was imagining Maggie coming alomg....:-)
Makes me miss the boundary waters canoe area very much
Great takes, thank you Simon.

Great film, Simon!💚💙
As much as I would enjoy seeing Maggie along with you, she would not have fit in your stuffed canoe! 🤣😂
Beautiful country, and a great group of lads having fun. Bravo!!
I think we’d have been over if she’d come along! 💦💦
Scotland looks amazing! I love Norfolk, but I always forget how flat it is, compared to everywhere else ! I bet you wish you were back there right now, and finally we get to see your handsome face without it being overshadowed by a hat ! 😂
Thanks Heather 😊
It’s stunning up there!
Welcome to Scotland Simon, skin so soft for midge repellent. Been in Dumfries and Galloway for 13 years now great area down here
Quality video there Simon! What a trip! It's great to see everyone having a good time in such stunning surroundings, and raising so much for the good cause. Quite humbling, sat here waching it all.
