  • Five years back, I upgraded to Monroe Load Adjusting Shocks for towing support. Fast forward to today, we've shifted away from towing, and unfortunately, the Monroes have given up on us. After some research, I opted for the KYB 349225 Excel-G Gas Shock, snagging the best deal on Amazon including shipping. It's a perfect match for the KYB struts I installed 80k miles ago - still going strong and smooth. KYB has a reputation for quality, so let's dive in and see how these new shocks perform!

I meant to do this last year and never did. Did the front struts and the ride feels better, but they're sensitive to cold and make so much noise in the winter. I know those old bolts gotta be toast, so need to find new ones. Thanks for reminding me to do this. You made it look easy and I will try not to bleed out. 😂 Thanks for the video. ❤

Uhhg after doing all that work and having the struts ride less than perfect/make noise is frustrating. I had a 2008 grand caravan and replaced the front struts with a set of those loaded prebuilt struts from Monroe (great price and made the swap easier). They rode great at first then got more and more stiff within a couple weeks until they rode like a brick. I read up on those strut kits and learned they cut corners to get that great price point. So when this van needed struts I bought the strut itself, a good quality KYB (Monroe and Gabriel used to be good but learning they have gone downhill). I kept the stock springs and stock upper strut mount. They've been perfect and have been for 80k miles now. The good news is... shocks are MUCH easier! Just keep your phone nearby in case a bleed-out situation happens lol

@sstressfl yeah, that's what I did too and realized later that I should have kept the mount and springs. It's ok in the summers. Thanks for the reply! 😃

My 2011 Town & Country was bought used in 2016 for $11,000 at 99,000 miles. Today I have 315,000 on it and still going. But I also feel like I am now qualified as an ASE certified Chrysler mechanic. 😂
I’ve replaced the whole front end suspension a couple yeas ago and fixin to do the destroyed jounce bumpers and rear shocks this weekend.

@@sstressfl forgot to mention I also replaced the left head by myself because it had the valve destruction issue that came with the early models of this generation and it was out of warranty. This guy, motor city mechanic, has a great series step-by-step on how to do that project but it’s also a good one to watch on how to get down through everything to the block when needed. ruclips.net/video/OG4-IKSwzFk/видео.htmlsi=wIy1EDODDl6_52Vd

How is towing with the AM shocks compared to an OE replacement? What size and weight of load were you pulling with the AM shocks?

The Monroe shocks added a little boost as they are a progressive spring. But the weight distribution hitch made all of the difference. I’m guessing the van was often right at maximum load rating. Empty weight of the camper was 2400lbs. Plus gear, 5 bikes, 5 people 😮 poor van. We have a truck now and the van gets a lazy life driving kids to school.
