- There's a Theory in Kingdom Hearts 3 that the Riku we see in San Fransokyo was secretly "Darkness" from Kingdom Hearts Union X. Though does this theory have any weight to it?

Imagine trying to explain to someone that "Darkness" is a different entity from Darkness in KH.
Darkness (as an Entity) vs. The Darkness (as a form of Corruption)

What concerns me in this scene when Rikuplica speaks to Pete and Maleficent, Pete asks “Who is he.” As if he has never seen him before. It concerns me because he has seen Riku back in the world that never was before taking on a bunch of heartless near the end of the game.
Not to mention he had control over DATA Riku when he got trapped in the datascape. It wasn’t even that long ago, so why now would he not remember him
Yeah I do find it weird, although one theory is that if you remember back in Days, Xion always had a different physical appearance to some members of the Organization, so with Dark Riku in our point of view we see Riku, but to Maleficent and Pete they see someone else.

Pete doesn't stop at asking "Who's he?", the full quote is "Who's he? Friend of yours?".
KH2 Riku was clearly and completely on Sora and Mickey's side (Light) from Pete's perspective and Data-Riku was also very anti-Darkness and by extension anti-Maleficent behaving very aggressively towards them as a result and strongly resisting their attempts to corrupt his code. The only versions of Riku that Pete had never encountered prior to that interaction with Dark Repliku during KH3 were the iteration of original Riku that embraced Darkness from the events of KH1 that had sided with Maleficent which Dark Repliku believed he was (seemingly indicating he was retrieved from a point in CoM when he was brainwashed), Repliku who embraced Darkness, and the still very Dark but recovering iterations of original Riku from CoM through the first half of KH2 on the timeline. Dark Repliku looks like Data-Riku aside from the eyes, sure, but the sheer quantity of Darkness, seeming relationship with Maleficent, and casual use of Dark Corridors all indicate something's different which is why his immediate follow-up question matters. I'm not saying Pete is a skilled enough magician to accurately read all that, just that Dark Repliku had a different vibe, powerset, and apparent mentality than the heroic versions of Riku Pete had encountered before. As you pointed out Pete already knows two distinct versions of Riku so it wouldn't be a stretch for him to consider that this might also be a different Riku for the same previously stated reasons.
Now onto Maleficent: She never mentions nor is implied to mention her prior relationship with Riku onscreen at any point before this interaction with Dark Repliku during KH3, not even to Pete. The closest she gets to doing so is when they first capture Data-Riku as he tries to attack them alongside the Mouse himself when she says "Don't you know he belongs to the Darkness? That means he is destined to be consumed by it like the rest of us. This boy is under my control now. I have great hope that he will prove to be more than useful." which uses completely impersonal terminology and doesn't imply a former relationship. Maleficent can sense a Heart's Darkness which has long been established and wouldn't be news to Pete.
I had been thinking this for about a year, but for a while everyone always shot it down when I brought it up.
A few more things to note for this theory.
1. Riku Replica is the one who summoned that shadow Xehanort-thing while summoning hundreds of heartless (Heartless just raining from the sky.) in the KEYBLADE graveyard. That's odd that HE was the one to do that and not one of the Xehanorts or Vanitas.
2. Him and Vanitas have very similar outfits and we are almost certain Vanitas is connected to this 'Darkness' person in some way. So him having a similar outfit to Riku-Replica is a little interesting. There has to be a reason for that right?
3. One final thing to note is that both have the same fighting stance. While it is easy to assume it is just to reference Riku, I do think it's kinda odd that both Vanitas and Riku-Replica literally have the same fighting stance.
While this does not prove any if it true, it does make things a little more suspicious.
What if the reason Xehanort has Golden eyes is because he accepted "Darkness" in his heart after his Tour. And now Xehanort spread "Darkness" into 13 people

xehanort had his normal eye color after the tour though. in his talk with the master of masters he had already finished the tour and his eyes werent golden.
But Aqua also has golden eyes when in the Realm of Darkness and Mickey said that she fell into the Abyss, beneath the Realm of Darkness. So I think golden eyes are just a representation of darkness (not Darkness) in someone's heart just as blue eyes signify a heart of light.

I never know Darkness was hiding in the shadows from the start watching Sora and the others. It still concerns me Darkness is very difficult to find cause it can disguise itself as anyone to blend in avoiding detection according to Master of Masters aka Superbia explained.
Knowing there's multiple darknesses, and that maleficent knows from her union cross scenes really adds a new perspective to this riku maleficent scene

Considering that vanitas, riku (possessed by ansem), and replicu have the same outfit I wonder if it implies 'darkness' was within ansem in kh1 and then after he was defeated went to replicu, and we also know vanitas is likely connected to 'darkness', it's also possible 'darkness' is multiple entities.
@@GuyWolfGaming it was already confirmed in kh union x that darkness has friends. I forgot how many. There is not a lot, but darkness does not work alone.
Good theory, though Darkness did admit there's multiple of them. So, it's likely but I'm sure it's Vanitas who is Darkness from Union X primarily.

I always thought Repliku in San Fransokyo is different from the Repliku you fight at the end. I thought this was DATA Riku from Coded ... maybe possessed by "Darkness"?
Or maybe it is just Darkness who took the appearance of Riku. One of the Darkness (which I believe is the one who became Vanitas) already proved that they can assume other forms. That Darkness appeared as Master Ava to Ventus in Union χ.
While the Riku at the Keyblade Graveyard actually is Repliku's past
Actually this makes a lot of sense. The Riku in San Fransokyo and the Riku in the Graveyard act very differently, they have different motivations and react to being called fake differently. It is very subtle but enough people have seen it that I convinced that it is very possible that they are at lest two different Riku's. So the Riku in San Fransokyo being a Darkness(r) makes sense and might even be likely. I hadn't quiet thought of the connection to him maybe being a Darkness(r) until you said something but it does fit very well.
However I am one of those people that are looking trough the past games for more hints for Darkness(r) making moves. Which I think have been happening for a long time we just haven't noticed them. The ones that seem most noticeable to me are Sephiroth who is outright called a darkness and behaves in a way that a Darkness(r) is said to behave, and Xaldin who is the only Nobody that acts insanely differently then his Somebody without any reason to do so. Still it is very hard to guess a characters movements when said character is someone that can shape shift into other characters, or in some cases just possess other characters.
Like I am fairly sure that the reason that Riku was able to change shape into Ansem Seeker of Darkness wasn't because Ansem was still inside him. I am pretty sure that Ansem was destroyed at the end of KH1. I think that a Darkness(r) was hiding inside Riku and as Riku got better at controlling the darkness(e) the being inside him caused him to shape shift. The at the end of KH2 when Kingdom Hearts was half way destroyed and that big light exploded Riku back into his own form, that happened because the Darkness(r) that was inside him had to leave. Riku still had his darkness(e) powers but the shape shifting was never his power and so he has never shape shift again. Well unless one counts his turning into a dream eater, or getting a really odd hair cut inside a demon tide. Either way I think that his time in DDD made it so that Riku learned how to keep from being possessed by a Darkness(r). Though I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to use his shape.
I don't think it's possible for any version of Riku to be darkness. Riku appears to be(and I can't really figure out exactly what) some kind of very special being within the kingdom hearts universe. Namine points out all the way back in CoM that Riku can't be consumed by light or darkness. A statement confirmed by Xehanort himself, when he said Riku had become unattainable as a vessel. It's also interesting to note, that the x-blade forged of both light and darkness in equal measure bears the shapes of the kingdom key. ALL of the kingdom key variants are born from Riku. Sora's Kingdom Key came from Riku's heart. Mickey's was created at the same time from Riku's heart in the RoD as reflection of the Kingdom Key and Riku's Brave Heart is another Kingdom Key with the same Micky head keychain as the others. Hopefully this doesn't come off as to wanky, there's just a lot about Riku left unexplained as of yet.
I thinkthe Darkness is in anyone who interacting with darkness the force to any degree. For example, I think Anti Black Coat Nightmare is a Darkness. It looks like Dark Chirithy with Young Xehanort's body. Sora is afraid of Young Xehanort so Darkness takes his form and becomes Sora's Nightmare. Dark Riku is drowning in envy and hate so Darkness is probably using him as a mask.
I think Maleficent says her from when line because she's aware it's not KH1 Riku, but he acts and has the memories of him, so she humours him. Although it could have been "darkness" as he(?) body hops around the organisation; and following that thought, Demyx is "darkness"
I wonder if Darkness is the main villain for the next saga and that the Master and the Foretellers and Xigbar aka Luxu being good even though some might be evil

I 100% agree. Another interesting relationship is the Org13 Dark Riku with Xigbar. He shows up twice with him including before the Yen Sid moment.
Yes, and since we know that Xigbar is Luxu, and Luxu and Darkness are 'friends', we can see the connection.
Vanitas admits to being Darkness in KH3. Nomura said before Ventus made a connection with Sora he had no form. Seems to line up pretty well. Is there something obvious that debunks this idea? I thought we solved this back when KH3 first came out.
I see that as Vanitas saying that he was just literally darkness. He was born from darkness. He has no light just darkness nothing more nothing less.
And besides if Vanitas is Darkness then who was the entity that Sora was talking to in Ventus’s heart in Remind.
I doubt it. Darkness does appear in Re:Mind though.

I literally posted this theory on Reddit ages ago, and I got the typical "you're overthinking it" response, as if there's such a thing in Kingdom Hearts...
Interesting theory and some people has the same theory about that dark riku in big hero six world might be Darkness from union cross. But that’s a theory for now unless it turn out to be true, then I was be so surprised and congratulate to the people who thought about that theory.

Honestly the only thing going for this theory is Maleficent's vague comment it might not even be related to Darkness for all we know Nomura might create an entire game based on that comment just to explain why she said that
maleficent had already met darkness in union cross by the time kh3 came out. so this is a callback to that. Ever since browser chi,maleficent has been talking about the datascape and book of prophecies
Nah that Riku specifically is over and done with. Darkness is literally Vanitas, and it's not hard to figure out.

@@Nhoadkoko No. Darkness is just that opposite of Light. The "Thing" (Darkness Entity from Ux) is just an Entity identifying itself as "Darkness" and resided itself within Ventus. Thus creating Vanitas when "it" was extracted from Vens heart.

There is one thing that I’m wondering about, unrelated to the video, and that’s the nobodies.
The first organization commanded tailor made nobodies. And yet, few to none other variants of nobodies exist, apart from them...
And yet there are countless variations of heartless...
Xehanort’s plan was to gather nobodies, and fill them with the same heart and mind, right?
Is that the way by which the other nobodies came about? A member would imprint a bit of thier minds and wills onto them?
In the Tutorial for kh2, Axel made a statement about not wanting to get turned into a dusk for not following orders.
Xemnas’ thing was Nothing, too, right? What if Xemnas had the power to reduce his team members to dusks if they didn’t follow along?
Later in the game, Demyx revealed that the thing that separated the main nobodies from the mobs was that they remembered what it was like to have hearts...
I’m just saying that maybe some of this stuff was casually foreshadowed early... but then built to something crazy later.
Maybe the organization, is literally organized.
My point is that maybe terranort was the alpha, the ranked nobodies were the beta, and the “real” organization was the final product...
Vanitas is darkness because darkness possessed ventus and traveled to the future with him then he met xehanort xehanort split them in two then they worked together xehanort learns about darkness from him and when he possessed riku it was because he had darkness essence

I honestly just thought it was the replicas darkness. But then again what if riku in kh1 absorbed a darker heart. And it became his consciousness or heart at the time of kh1? Idk honestly, I’m more into everything past 2. Hearts being consciousness, bodies being the ego. Heartless being corrupted consciousness, nobodies being corrupted egos. Kh2 onwards vibed with my spirituality more than kh1.

Call me crazy, but I still think that Darkness, or a piece of Darkness, is in Ven's heart when Sora goes into Ven's station of awakening near the beginning of ReMind.
There are many Darkness. Vanitas was one of those Darkness. Yet while Vanitas is in Organization XIII, another Darkness still resides in Ventus' heart. The one Sora encounters.
It wouldn't surprise me if another of those Darkness pretended to be Riku/Repliku.
Also isn't strange that Vanitas and Riku's dark outfits are the same (except for the color). I'm thinking that it has to have to be part of a Darkness' manifestation.

I thought darkness was Venitas before he was given shape by Xehanort
He was darkness in vens heart. This darkness is more collective being made by every person's darkness. Hence, he has no form as he is made of multiple people.
That sounds like an assumption. All we know is he has no form at the time of khux. And they know the future. Besides, in three, venitas literally says “ what I am is Darkness.” But hey, that is an assumption too.

Unfortunately that's not the case, just because people are filled with light, they can still misuse it and can cause harm with it. Xion is a prime example, she uses light as a weapon.
