  • Precast concrete is manufactured in a controlled environment like large undercover facilities ensuring greater productivity and safety unlike the challenges faced when forming concrete product that is poured onsite.
Precast concrete production also utilises special equipment like steel casting beds and mechanical devices. This equipment can ensure consistency and better-quality outcomes for companies and their clients with greater control over material quality, workmanship and build timelines in a precast plant compared to a construction site.
Reusable moulds and materials are used to produce precast products repeatedly reducing build cost and time.
Reinforcement material is an integral strength part of the precast product which is carefully configured into the mould along with other components like lifting foot anchors or threaded ferrules as per engineer’s design for product material handling, then concrete is poured and skillfully treated.
Once the concrete product has cured hard enough for handling, it is then removed from the mould and stored awaiting further curing and finishings to be finalised preparing it for transportation and installation.
Precast concrete is utilised in many ways every day for example like building panels, bridge beams, traffic barriers and drainage products in residential, industrial, commercial applications and infrastructure projects.
These applications can be seen in both interior and exterior applications, from bridges, roads, hi-rise building construction, Stormwater and Sewage Pipes and Tunnels created for commuters also make use of precast concrete units.
Precast panels for walls and beam sections for floors are transported from where they were manufactured by specially made heavy transporter trailers hauled by prime movers to site where they are then lifted into place by either a mobile or tower crane.
Various precast concrete elements are used to safely lift and secure the concrete panels both in the factory and during installation onsite. Elements include Concrete Lifting Clutches, Foot Anchors & Lifting Inserts, Threaded Cast-inserts (ferrules), Levelling Pads, Shims, Braces and Props.
In this video, we will cover some common questions and answers for Testing Precast Concrete Elements used in lifting of Precast Concrete Panels, Slabs and Blocks
Precast Concrete Panels and Elements fall under Australian Standards for PreCast concrete elements AS3850.
