      Remember how Hillary and her supporters (mostly her supporters) called Bernie and his supporters sexists and sexual harassers? I sure as shit remember... funny how the biggest supporters of her are the real sexual harassers/sexists and they used it as a crutch to try and deflect from REAL criticism about Hillary....

      The apologies are never by the actual person, they are written by a PR team who makes A LOT of money. You are getting tired of them, because they are all basically the exact same thing.
      Apologize for what you did outright.
      Acknowledge that you know it was wrong.
      Tell people how good a person you really are.
      ???
      Totally off the hook for your 'sincere apology'

      Arun Mangrulkar or the excuse "they didn't say no or object". The question shouldn't be that but did they agree to it and whether he used his power to influence that decision.

    • @Wannabechefguy
      @Wannabechefguy 7 лет назад +22

      I think people knew back then that rape was bad, but what defined rape back then is different. So, being raised up on the idea that just coercing women into sexual or intimate situations isn't the same as tackling her and forcefully having sex would lead to the mindset that Weinstein has. Not saying his actions aren't wrong. They are, but I wanted to at least give a tiny bit of insight to how people could think that way.

In saying that I don't believe it to be a viable excuse to sexually harass a woman or anyone for that matter

    To me, the Harvey Weinstein situation is just another example of an individual letting their influence and power get to their head and make them believe that they can do as they wish without repercussions. The excuse of him being from 60-70s generation is complete crap, it all comes down to how having power and influence warps an individual's morale compass or not, in his case it did.

    This is not a gender exclusive issue, and not Isolated to a single horrible person. It's both males and females who are being abused by a lot of powerful people in Hollywood. Corey Feldman wrote a very eye opening book a few years ago about the abuse that he, and other young actors were confronted with, as young and vulnerable entertainers.

    Yes let's build a 400 million dollar stadium (for free), then charge everyone who wants to view the games $10-$2000, charge $10 for parking, and sell overly priced food and merchandise.... Just to save the owner money? Who benefits from this... The owner, owners family, and the NFL copyright

    • @fogease
      @fogease 7 лет назад +1

      100% agree that this isn't where public money should go, but it isn't free. The stadium owners still have to pay back the debt and interest to whoever buys the bonds, but some or all of the profit made by the private investors is made tax exempt, subsidising higher taxed incomes who buy the stadium's debt.

      Nicky Morris Harvey Weinstein said in his statement that he "came of age in the 60's and 70's, when ALL the RULES about BEHAVIOUR and workplaces were different. That was the CULTURE then." What??? That's probably one of the lamest alibi and excuse that I've ever heard. The difference between the 60's-70's era and 2100's is that the people today are now more courageous to expose immorality from powerful men like you Mr. Weinstein, and the power of social media serves as the backbone for exposé.

    Oh my God. This is terrfying. Imagining a young person who can not say anything against a person who hurt him or her only because that person is lower in the food chain. I know this happens. Happens to everyone in most businesses. But this is a whole new level. I am worried for my baby brother and sister, and for my nieces and nephews when they grow up. I'm afraid for the safety of everyone's children. I really hope this stops of not for the women and men who have been damaged this time, but for our children. I normally don't pray, but I hope that this never happens to anyone in any business in any position.

    • @SUZAKI955
      @SUZAKI955 7 лет назад +1

      Rick Harris I wish man. People need help. But there's a problem with that too. I have seen cases where victims would speak up, but then they were shunned. Most of them either lost their jobs, their families and friends. That's what happens when you are in a lower position. There's not much you can do because if you move, someone greater will smash you. No wonder why some people wait until they establish credibility before saying such things against their attackers. The only problem with that is people will start to wonder why the victims didn't say anything before hand. It's....horrible. All of this.

    • @SUZAKI955
      @SUZAKI955 7 лет назад +1

      Davel Dasilva I cannot speak for these people, but I know some people who could not say anything or do anything in fear of ridicule, discrimination, and pure hostility. A close friend of mine was beaten by the spouse since the start of their marriage. Said friend could not leave because the sposes family threatened my friend. Now after raising four children and getting all of them through college and by having many many maaaanny jobs, my friend left the abusive spouse. It's just....when a person is weak, and he or she is violated by someone of high power, often raising a voice against is a sure way to not only lose a job or a family but ensures in losing everything else that one might hold dear.
      At this point. I am not sure what to do. How to we stop problems like this? What do we do? Limit women from venturing outside? Stop kids from going to school? I don't know anymore.

      Davel Dasilva You know what. You are correct about not everyone being weak. I apologize to say that everyone who gets screwed over are weak. I am sorry to call the victims weak. You are also right about the revenge part. I really can't say why some of victims didn't say anything, but I cannot speak for them. All I can say is that whoever is wronged will be righted. Whether by the Justice System, one's own willpower, or God. I hope and pray that things will be better for everyone.

    In this age where people are so quick to anger and call for the heads of whomever it is that has offended them. It's shocking to see a company actually handle it properly. They made a response that her view does not reflect those of the company that they have warned from further using her social media where it can be misinterpreted as ESPN's view on controversial topics. She then proceeded to do it again and told people to boycott advertisers who without a doubt advertise on ESPN or might. She was then suspended as per the warning they gave her. Will she get fired after the suspension? Maybe but it is great to see a company actually handle itself like a company should and not break under the weight of public outrage. I can't believe I am talking about ESPN.

    • @Callas4409
      @Callas4409 7 лет назад +1

      Garfunkas Actually, she directly stated that she Was Not calling for a boycott. Also, she is on her own personal social media platform. Unless she's under a contract with ESPN, she can say what she feels. Unfortunately, that comes with consequences because you never wanna piss off the advertisers who write the biggest checks.

    • @BaanthVir
      @BaanthVir 7 лет назад

      Yes, she was using her own social media. Like I said she was asked to stop stating things that can be negatively reflected back on ESPN things that did not fall in line with their views or were too controversial while she was listed as an employee. She was warned not fired immediately. She then went right back at it after advertisers. Advertisers who without a doubt gave ESPN a call, where they decided it was best to remove her and maybe shock her into realizing they aren't kidding about the warning.

    On the Weinstein story: That excuse of it being different in the 60s-70s is such bullshit. I actually just dealt with this at my own workplace. We had an older guy who is a supervisor making several women uncomfortable by making lewd remarks and finding excuses to touch them. Yet when we all went to management about his behavior, that was how management excused his actions, saying it was just different and he wasn't actually trying to be predatory. No. That's not an excuse. If you want to work in today's workforce, you adhere to the social norms of today's workforce. Several women at my job quit because of this issue, and management still defended him. Disgusting.

    The problem with the Hill story is that ESPN is a business, and having one of it's employees telling her followers to boycott certain aspects within the NFL, and potential sponsors of ESPN, her comments reflect poorly on the company, and potentially jeopardizes future prospects with other sponsors. Honestly the fact that she got a second chance and went for the bait later reflects on her professional integrity and inability to separate business with politics.

    I think it's important to remember that when it comes to calling out high-profile celebrities for sexual misconduct, survivors almost always need to some sort of power or influence, too. And, if they don't have that, they'll need about 5+ other survivors to be able to corroborate before ANYONE would listen. I, for one, could out a LOT of people of influence who did utterly heinous, atrocious things while I was a child passed around in a dangerous ring of abuse -- in entertainment AND politics. But, I'm a nobody. When it comes to the unknown or the poor, the story becomes "They're in it for the money" and/or "They just want to get famous". They couldn't pooooossibly be being honest. This keeps countless victims silenced bc zero good can come from sharing. Your own life gets picked apart, new trauma emerges from countless corners, character assassinations get made, people don't believe you anyway, you RARELY see justice & you tend to become the villain more than the perpetrator.
    *It's great to see so many using their voice and speaking up, but its also important to remember they're only getting support bc they have influence and/or a fanbase, too.*

      All it took was someone to actually be in it for money or fame and it ruined the while thing. Do not blame the public for having suspicions. Not to mention our legal system is SUPPOSED to be "innocent until proven guilty" But when it comes to things like rape it is "guilty until proven innocent" and THAT is wrong as well, a lot of men had their lives ruined by women who had consensual sex and regretted it, so what better way to get past it than to say it was rape? That is not to say it is all cases, but an alarming amount of them are like that.

The difference between the 60's-70's era and 2100's is that the people today are now more courageous to expose immorality from powerful men like you Mr. Weinstein, and the power of social media serves as the backbone for exposé.

    This is a huge problem in the movie industry. A lot of woman are taken advantage of by men who control basically the future of their career and they feel too scared to speak out. I know someone who's an actress who has a similar story to these woman with a director. She never came forward because she was told her career would be over if she spoke out and no one would work with her again. She was told this by her agent. It's disgusting that woman feel pressured to keep quiet about something so serious. That's how this keeps happening.

      it has to speak to too much power in the hands of actors, directors and execs. They get to carry on like rockstars and have the personal connections to gatekeep on having a career. It has to undercut the protections against abuse. I doubt these businesses are built in a way that HR can take a complaint and sideline a director, exec etc. (it's a business where individual and relationships at the top might be worth hundreds of millions, while an emerging actor can be bought off, replaced, etc).
      I just think they could stand to make things more professional. To have abuse, you have to have a system that has an inbuilt tolerance for abuse. These women were maneuvered into meeting HW in hotel rooms! How does a business function that will create that situation repeatedly?

      The goal is to pick a person closest to the center; so you get the one in the center of the first half, and in the center of the second half, and see which one happens to be closer to where the two halves meet. It's retarded.
      If you know a bit of math, it's essentially finding the median by checking whether the first quartile or third quartile is closer. There's a reason no-body does that.
      Democrats say trump is a shit president elected by retarded Republicans, and wonder how someone so far from center got elected; yet they can't seem to understand that, evidently, Clinton was even farther from center than trump.
      It' rarely about which side has the better candidate anymore, it's all about who was worse.

    If someone was raised without contact to the outside world in a home that taught that murder is okay as long as you're really angry enough, and then this person struggled to not murder people when trying to integrate with society, there wouldn't be all these bullshit excuses about how the way this hypothetical person was raised makes their murders any less wrong than any other murder... There are lots of people who were abused as kids and then go on to abuse their kids, and all of us know that "I was raised with values misaligned with society" is not any kind of excuse for beating their kids. I Am Xpolo Yes but none of the players chose to play for Jerry Jones specifically, they only chose to play in the NFL. Jerry has the power end their career immediately if the players protest (kind of like the Weinstein situation). So yes they're "free to do, but not from reactions," but Jerry has created a situation where the players didn't get to chose an organization that aligns with their morals and disagreeing with that organization would force them out of a job.

    So basically Hollywood protected Weinstein until they couldn't any longer? Does anyone else feel like not reporting sexual harassment is a real shitty thing to do? That's like not reporting a rabbid dog in the neighborhood that's running around biting people. You know he's going to continue until someone reports him and the authorities can take action. I think they protected him to save their careers, which is sickening weather or not they were harassed. Both can be true, you can be harassed and be a shitty person. That's just my take.

    • @johnsonjerrad

      Side note: I realize that reporting sexual harassment can be traumatic, but isn't it more traumatic to be harassed in the first place? I understand your sentiment, but a lot of the issue is that they're very likely not to be believed and will be twisted by the media to look like they are lying. We've seen how far these companies go to protect their money sources, so it's very possible that Weinstein would have put out a hit piece on the victim to discredit and humiliate. And with the internet as vindictive and gullible as it is, that harassment is probably something the victims don't want to deal with.

      Jerrad Johnson I dont think you understand how the world works, my boy. But we humans are selfish creatures. None of us do anything out of the kindness of our hearts because, by nature, we are evil. People in the media and in Hollywood wont speak out against people in higher positions because they can benefit from it. No human being is thinking about others, not friends, not loved ones. Thats the same reason I dont believe these people should be seen as heroes for speaking out. Some of them for 10-20 years, they allowed this guy to continue assaulting more and more women, and only decided now, at the opportune time, to strike back?
      In the case of why they dont speak out, its usually because they dont want to be ousted as the whistleblower. Basically, theyre scared of how they might be portrayed. Which, lets be honest, is completely stupid.

      The tweet was about black people who had been taking a knee over the wrongful killings. That issue has been lost in all this noise. The folks who were killed are still dead and to many it appears there is no justice on that topic. So now do they stop their protest over the deaths or not? If they do at this point, what then?

      Oh he understood the tweet. I don't think you understand his point.

      See it's people like you the reason why police brutality is still a problem. We have people like you as officers too and it's certainly not helping.
      The difference between black on black crime and this is AUTHORITY. The people in charge should not be pre-emptively gunning down anyone. And there is a trend, for those innocent people they gun down to be black. However police brutality in america while it can be racial it isn't JUST racial.
      What you're saying looks ridiculous because it's like saying to the girl who got raped by two on duty police officers last week "Well you know, what about the 100's of women that get rapped EVERY DAY? Just one woman raped by an officer? pfft no big deal." People are outraged when the people we're supposed to trust with our lives and we hold to a higher moral standard are failing us. But of course this doesn't bother you at all because face it....black lives don't matter, to you.

      @Danie F Yes. Because someone expressed an opinion suddenly black lives don't matter to them.
      People like you are why Trump is in the office. You're so blinded by the power of calling people racist you don't realize you're pushing people away from your political values.

    People can be so disgusting, don't keep silent. I know some people won't believe victims, but don't let these kind of perverts get away with it.

    People like Harvey Weinstein make me feel physically ill. Wouldn’t it be great if these influential figures would use their power for good? The world never ceases to both amaze and disgust me.

      He's a product of the culture in the industry. Everyone knew about him, including some of the most powerful women in Hollywood, yet nothing happened. At what point does knowing and saying nothing make you complicit? Obviously he's an asshat, but more than his employment status needs to change.....

    Personally I think that anyone who uses "I grew up a long time ago, things are different than they used to be" as an excuse is just an asshole. Things didn't suddenly change overnight and even if that was "ok" back in the day it doesn't mean that it was right.

      OnaiGames exactly. He got caught that's why he had to give this statement. If he wasn't then he would still be preying on women.

      I also think the culture was assuming that a woman should just brush off an assault or that she provoked the assault rather than the majority of men going about and assaulting women. Most people do not enjoy someone's clear discomfort or distress.
