Sega Racing Classic REAL Arcade Cabinet (Dinosaur Canyon)

- So, whilst I'm in the final stages of finishing up the 2hr45min Outrun series documentary I'm working on, I thought I might as well squeeze in a quick upload of something else...
I found a Sega Racing Classic twin arcade cabinet in a bowling alley, called Lane 7, in my home city of Bristol! Whoop, whoop!
Man, it is SO much harder doing the gear drift with a proper 4 way H shifter stick than just using the face buttons on my DFGT when I'm playing on Model 2 Emulator or the PS3...
I was playing this with a strap on thing (fnar fnar) around my head that held my phone in place - and yes, it did make me look like an utter bellend. The shit I put myself through for this channel... 😆
I had no idea when I was playing if the footage was going to turn out OK, or if I'd just been recording the game's marquee for the whole time I was racing (I couldn't exactly take it off, check the footage, and then place it back in EXACTLY the right position...) so I'm happy with how it turned out.

I might cry to see this beautiful sight again! 😍
Nice find Al! Never seen one of these out in the public before. I think I recall these not selling so well, due to the Daytona branding being absent.
You have the gratitude from us arcade racers out there, looking like a nob is apart of the struggle to capture these rare beasts out in the wild. 😆
That’s a hell of a find. Never seen one in the wild. I’ll nip down to Lane 7 soon, just checked and it’s by the waterfront. Lucky I’m also a Bristol chap.
Cool, I think I do vaguely recall you mentioning you're a fellow Brizzle lad. Have you been to the History of Video Games recently? I was walking past it the other day and it looks like they've had a rearrange and got a ton of new cabs in there. I'm going to be popping down there again with a group of mates next month. We were going to drive to Boneyard Arcade in Exeter, mainly because they had an actual Daytona Twin there, but finding this kind of negated the need for such a long drive. I am still going to pop down there at some point, but might wait until it's a bit more Spring-like.
@@MrThunderwing I went a few years back, spent all my time playing Sega Rally, but only 1 player was working. Terminator (the gun game) had the remaining time, but Sega Rally is my absolute fav.
I’ll head down to the centre. Could do with a bit of ‘me time’. Sneaky pint too 🍺.
@@paulkent6846 Heh, good plan. Only one of the Sega Rally's was working when I was there. Hoping they might've fixed it now.
@@paulkent6846 Hey, Paul, I'd highly recommend checking this place out too!

*Duh duh duh duh duh! Day-e-ton-a!!* 🎶
Cool find! My local Chuck E. Cheese has one of these as well as a deluxe After Burner Climax cab(!) All the other "arcades" left in my town just have redemption stuff, ports of mobile phone games, and the usual Raw Thrills offerings. I would kill for a time machine just to go back and play some real arcade games, lol
Ohhh, nice find with the AB Climax, I never ever saw one of those in the wild.
3:05 gotta love that gamer rage XD
Yeah, normally I'm a bit more Zen than this, it was more the fact that each time I was trying to record a run where I didn't fuck up, it was literally costing me cash each time.
Back when life was much simpler yet fulfilling😢🤔😄
Sad too see this game was removed in my local arcade now gone

Most of these modern Arcade nowadays use a 60Hz LCD Monitor Digital (DVI/HDMI) that it have way higher input lag than the CRT we used before in analog (VGA, Component, Composite, S-Video, SCART) era, that it contributes do increase difficulty in games.
It depends on the monitor. Modern flatscreen monitors used for esports have 1 to 3 ms response time. So I guess it depends on what Sega out in these machines.
@@TheBigExclusive Arcades most of time uses 60Hz Standard cheap LFD monitors. Very few use 120Hz ones...
I use a 240Hz one.
beautiful, you get used to the pad and then if it is difficult to put the gears, but for me it happens in real arcades
I've played both "SEGA Racing Classic" and "Daytona Championship USA" in the arcades, and I agree that the gearshift on the former is pretty difficult to use. On the flipside, the gearshift for "Daytona Championship USA" feels very nice. It's so much easier to change gears in that version compared to the other one, and I think it's due to the actual size of the gearshift being much smaller. If you ever get the chance to play "Daytona Championship USA" in an actual arcade (assuming you haven't already done so), you'll see what I mean.
Still haven't ever seen a real life Daytona Championship USA, only ever played the cracked version at home.
Apparently this port was used as base for the PSN/XBXLA Port.
with a little bit of practice, you will begin nailing those gear drifts
I can normally do them fine when I'm playing at home,

I'm just not used to using a real 4 way H shifter.
Very cool. I think in Germany i wouldn't find such a cabinet in real life... 😔
I wanna use this as basis for a April Fools Prank, by making it look like a fanmade remake of SEGA Racing Classic, only for it to be revealed to be a recreation of the attract mode in Burnout Revenge
Unlucky. Great effort though. 👁👄👁
Very Nice. ❤
Nice
You have cool gamers skills! Position 3 in last lap, goood!! But mini mistake and first position on finish catch another car ) I love Daytona USA soo much and i can finishing first, BUT only when i playing on gamepad....And when i play with saturn wheel i finished in tail...over all car. But i dream some day finish this game on wheel)
Thanks man. I can normally play this and not suck when I'm using my wheel at home and using the face buttons to shift gears: ruclips.net/video/QWhzm8bZaV4/видео.html
Sega Classic Racing is just Daytona USA but updated and then removed any references to Daytona Motor Speedway
Thanks buddy 😉 I think most people who visit my channel will be well aware of that 👍
Wait is it just Daytona USA but modern machine or..? Why the name change?
I think Sega lost the Daytona license for a bit in the late-mid 2000's but wanted to make another Daytona game. Then they got it back before making the PS3 and Xbox 360 ports.
I think I still have the muscle memory to go from 4th to 2nd to 3rd,
Is there an at home shift control that can take that kind of beating or am I going to be hunting on eBay again for a used cab
I don't think I've seen any modern wheels with the sort of 4 way H shifter Daytona uses.
I have a Logitech wheel for Xbox One and PC that has three foot pedals and a six-speed manual gearshift. They do exist, and I've used it for "Daytona USA" on Model 2 Emulator, as well as other racing games on both my Xbox and PC. I even attempted to use it for "Mario Kart Wii" on Dolphin, and also "Hard Drivin" on MAME. Although, my favorite use for it was in "Dirt Rally 2.0", because it felt like I was driving an actual classic Mini Cooper. It's actually a very high quality racing setup, and I highly recommend it if you have the money to spend on it.
I'm curious, when you're entering a corner do you just bang out the gears from muscle memory/timing or are you watching your speed before you shift back?
More from timing than anything, you only need to shift down to 2nd to 4th or from 1st to 3rd for a split-second.
@@MrThunderwing learning the expert course taught me just how much speed affects your trajectory when drifting. So it got me into the habit of downshifting and turning (and for some expert corners, braking too), watching the speedometer till it's at the optimal speed, then upshifting to lock the angle.
Made a big difference for me.
@@marquez1333 Yeah, I can normally drift with (more-or-less) no issue when I'm playing Daytona at home.

It's just so different using a big old clunky gear stick, as opposed to just going 4-2-4 in a few button presses
