I did some yard work one day, raked up a lot of leaves & pine needles and ended up having about 4 or 5 yard bags that I sat on the curb. When trash day came, I was looking out the window to make sure the garbage man picked them up. When I noticed he emptied the can but didn't get out to collect the bags, I called headquarters to ask why he would leave the bags. They advised garbage trucks don't collect yard debris and I'd have to call the city and pay them seperately to come pick them up. I wonder if the driver was backing up to inform the man of something similar. Very unfortunate situation for both parties.
I seriously don’t think this trash truck driver did this on purpose. Most accidents happen when backing up. You have to take into consideration the weather the condition of the truck itself. These trucks are often poorly maintained and side view mirrors are often damaged by branches and whatnot on these neighborhood streets. This guy is close to retirement. Come on Houston. Did anyone even take into consideration his driving record or criminal record if any??
Yeah, the man backing up the truck couldn't see the man standing behind the truck in the middle of the road , and the man standing behind the truck couldn't see the truck backing up at him.
Regardless who is at fault, anyone with common sense knows not to stand in the back of a heavy duty vehicle whiles its reversing, for the main reason of hey, they can't see me or know how close I am. Why stand in the middle of the street with something that big coming at you. Clash of egos, sadly someone died.
He was backing up pretty fast. It could be that he wasn't even paying attention to any cameras. He most likely backed up in reverse to tell the man off and ended up running him over instead because the man was behind the truck. In the beginning the man wasn't behind the truck, so not hard to believe he could have still thought the man was on the side. However on the other hand it could have very well been intentional. He showed no emotion, looked unbothered, and was not surprised by the verdict. I'm thinking it was somewhere in the middle. He probably intentionally wanted to bump him, but not cause death. Who knows. They both are dealing with their consequences.
Did you stop to think the reason he showed no emotion is because it happened 4 years prior? Who stays sad that long? If he cried in court it would have looked fake.
Looking at the video, there is no way that man could have seen him. Not only that, the man didn't see the truck to move his behind out of the way. So he just stood there like he was invincible. Seems to me the one dead seen too many Super hero movies that he honestly thought he could stop a truck by standing there. I'm sorry, no disrespect, but clearly, the decease has some kind of accountability that needs to be held because of his own actions. He is not a child and should know by now to not stand in the road where vehicles operate. Now for the driver, I can't say his intention but he could have possible backed up to see what the man wanted, not knowing the man would not move or possibly not seen which way the man went. Those mirrors are very hard to see clearly. I can say because I was swiped off the road by a semitruck. I don't think he seen me on the side of him. I need to know the drivers actions after hitting the man to actually say if this was intentional. Did he stop? Did he show concern? Did he seek medical help, calling 911?
@draf8517 That truck had a backup Siren White lights indicating it's in reverse. visually, see The truck was Reversing There's no way the driver could have seen him in the backup camera As its mounted on top of the truck Which means you cannot see the bumper Which the man was standing in front of Doesn't appear the driver was speeding Charges will be dropped on appeal Most likely

⚠️ So if you're stupid enough to throw an object at a garbage truck, then stand behind it in middle of the street as it's backing up, a jury will be stupid enough to find the driver guilty.
Anybody who has a commercial driver licenses know u don't back up something that big without having someone outside guiding you. If not, u drive around the block and come back. Driver was negligent.
@lilcourtny08 I was thinking the same damn thing. Someone lied to them. Also, a little common sense do not walk behind a commercial vehicle when its backing up.
I have a CDL B AB/P endorsement and it's recommended that you have a spotter but not mandatory. Many driving positions are a solo position and there isn't anyone to spot you so it is false. The truck he was driving is normally a 2 sometimes even 3 man operation (driver and up to 2 men to throw trash in the rear hopper) but I have seen situations where the driver is alone and must get out and get the trash. Now, training and safety is with the truck..... utilizing both mirrors, reversing slowly and honking your air horn every 5 or 10 seconds and this is in addition to the reverse chime every big commercial vehicle should be equipped with....again I've driven trucks where the reverse chime was broken but forced to drive any how, as a driver i was just extra cautious. In addition, waste management (garbage) trucks must back up frequently. I know, I've driven roll offs and 40ft line haul buses. More road time in roll off waste management trucks. If you see the shortcuts mechanics are FORCED to make with a fleet of trucks..... you'll never cut a truck off again, I don't. You're putting your fate not only in the driver's hands, but the mechanic and maintenance as well. As a pedestrian, I just don't stand behind a moving vehicle in reverse.....no training, just common sense.
False, large trucks like that have loud beeps and flashing reverse lights telling anybody in the back of the truck to clear the area. He reversed slow and for some reason the old guy not only gets behind the truck but walks into the truck.
Not defending the defendant but who hurls big branches at garbage trucks and cusses the workers out? I get upset when they don’t take all my trash but just leave it up front for weeks until they finally do 😂
You can't back up even a small passenger vehicle without looking where you are going. He's guilty of manslaughter if not murder. He got off easy. It was criminal negligence at best. He had no regard for anyone's life. Couldn't even take the effort to look at his screen.
A man throws a branch at your truck and shouts at you. You put the truck in reverse and speed down the road running the man over and killing him. How in your mind is that an accident?
@@CoolChannelName… he didn’t speed down the road, the old guy didn’t think to get out of the way partially because the truck was moving so slow. Garbage trucks to a minute to build speed, in reverse it takes twice as long.
The issue was the backup camera and the mirrors, this means for the jury the driver cleared knew that the man was still behind the truck and was intentional.
Smh, insane. This is clearly an accident with the victim being the cause of his own death. Meanwhile, the old man who purposely killed the uber drive in cold blood on camera will most likely get away with it. The news speak on the murder for a good 10 seconds then proceed to shift the main focus on people scamming on folks.
That’s a bad verdict, the driver reversed slow, garbage trucks have loud reversing beeps, for some reason the old guy lines up right behind the truck as it’s reversing slow.
@@xgtwb6473 … I wouldn’t say that because the driver isn’t in worst condition than the branch thrower. When is it ever a good idea to stand behind a large truck and you don’t know who’s driving? Garbage collection workers are forbidden from collecting a large branch such as this, because it will damage the compacting mechanism of the garbage truck! This tragedy should never have happened.

That's definitley intentional, he was driving away and CHOSE to back up right after the old man hits the truck with whatever branch he had, something NO ONE could miss happening to them while driving. HE KNEW that man was there and made a choice to do what he did instead of just continuing to drive off. That was an intentional evil act.
As if that was intentional just cuz he has mirrors, there’s still blind spots and I doubt he’s expecting someone to be stupid enough to just run out behind a big truck while backing up. He was also only backing up cuz the guy was throwing stuff at his truck so whose fault is that? Negligence or driving without due care and attention maybe, but not manslaughter imo
Both of them deserve punishment, how did the family sue and win? The family should have been charged with jay walking, public intoxication, or impeding traffic.
If you have ever drove a big truck you would know that this is an accident and anyone with common sense would get out of the way it really hard to see everything when backing up a big truck I just don't see how he was found guilty.
Naa it looks like it was intentional. I have never driver that big of a truck, just a cargo van. & despite having a backup camera, still use the mirrors.

Weather he saw him or not when he drove past him, he did reverse, but the guy should have stayed at the side of the road until the truck stopped. But thank you for clarifying that he could see him and knew what he did. That's a pretty callous thing to do over a branch, when it is your job.
You missed the part where the man with the branch was “yelling obscenities at the driver”! That’s obviously not a justification for backing over him, but a potential reason for the driver being “angry”. It was entirely STUPID, to stand behind a truck that large.
@@donnaanderson2846 doesn't matter, in the eyes of the law and also as him being the professional driver, he is wrong all the way around. I've had many bad days, got flicked off, cut off, cursed at by shippers and receivers and not once did I feel the need to run someone over.

My town posts a few days a year they send different trucks just to pick up lawn waste particular leaves in the fall
Just unfortunate. Two guys acting very childishly in that moment

Right
Anybody who has a commercial driver licenses know u don't back up something that big without having someone outside guiding you. If not, u drive around the block and come back. Driver was negligent.
That isnt true, who told you that bs
