  • In honor of the St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity's 20th anniversary and the official completion of the new Eco Village, EarthCam is sharing its construction time-lapse movie. The movie highlights construction progress for the sustainable housing community from April 2013 to September 2016 in just 90 seconds!
"Thank you so much for the contribution of the EarthCam for our Eco Village project! When we set up the EarthCam, we intended it mainly to showcase the Eco Village project of creating a neighborhood of high-performing, energy efficient affordable homes. It succeeded well beyond our expectations, bringing us visitors from throughout the entire country. I’ve arrived at the project to find visitors who have come long distances after having watched us for months or even years online. It let others involved in creating affordable housing, potential donors and partners, and anyone curious watch our progress. It even let our international partners share the experience. Beyond the great publicity, it has been a workhorse for us. I found it invaluable as a project management tool and security camera. I’ve used archived images to create schedules for future construction, monitor progress of ongoing activities, look for ways to simplify construction tasks and once was able to catch a culprit stealing tools in the middle of the night. We will be using the archived images and timelines that you created for us in fundraising efforts and presentations about our award-winning project. Our EarthCam has spoiled us and I look forward to moving it to our next effort in the spring!" - Jim Cooper, LEED AP, CPHC

By definition, an ecovillage is a human-scale full-featured settlement in which human activities are harmlessly integrated into the natural world. I don't see a single plant here, much less a vegetable garden or food forest. All I see is non-permeable pavement and inedible grass. I don't even see the use of southern facing windows for passive energy. These homes might be energy efficient and "affordable", but this is no ecovillage.
