I have the LX65 too. I am using an f5 80mm outboard and an f5 120mm inboard. You can pre-measure the balance of any telescope by placing the telescope on a table and putting a round pen underneath the dovetail. By changing where the pen is you can find the best balance and mark it on the dovetail. This will correspond to the center of the saddleplate on the lx65. If using 2 telescopes, fine tune balance by moving the outboard telescope forward or backward in it's saddle.
Hi !! Thanks for the tips. We've been getting killed by Snowstorm & Ice after Storm....haven't been able to use it astronomically.... Im looking to eventually get a second OTA. Appreciate the Comment!!
Thanks for sharing review of it. Please tell me which one is better, this or Celestron NexStar 8SE. Your precious opinion is more helpful for me to buy one of them.
Hi Ali Baba. Appreciate your watching and your confidence!! I could not give you an Honest comparison because I've never Owned a Celestron NexStarSE 8. The Celestron is a bit expensive and doesn't have the Audiostar Electronics which verbally gives a lecture about what your looking at. Also With my Meade....I can add an additional Optical tube alongside it OR Upgrade to a larger tube . Im pretty sure the Celestron Nexstar 8 is a fixed OTA. So later I can upgrade to a 10" OTA if I want. As for the Light gathering and Optics.... Again QUALITY EYEPIECES are very important in either Scope...but You dont need to spend $500 on a Television either...but shop around and get the best EYEPIECE you can afford. Lastly mine is an ACF.....ADVANCED COMA FREE OTA which gives crisper flater images....but the NEXSTAR has STARBRIGHT XLT Coatings which means it will give you fairly crisp imaging. SHOP AROUND!! There are websites that will offer sale specials from time to time so Look at All the different Computerized Telescopes that are listed. Lastly the rule of thumb with Telescopes is the larger the OTA the more light it will gather..... weigh that with its portability. Big bulky Telescopes will soon take away the enjoyment of Astronomy if you find it too cumbersome to move in & out of your home
If I wanted to attach my digital camera to the other mount instead of another tube do you know what mount I might need to attach it with ? Really enjoyed your video
Thanks!! Good question....its actually a standard Slide mount....im sure it's available. Try www.highpointscientific.com Or www.telescope.com Both are excellent accessory resources which I've purchased from.
Also take note....I made a mistake in the Alignment.....after you find true north...you must slew the scope level...so it should be facing true north...in the video I had the scope pointed up...and that is incorrect. Sorry 😞
Yes $500 is an excellent price!! Just check the battery well for leaks....If it's not clean then lowball more. But if it was a "coat-rack" most of the time $500 is fair .
Thanks. I don't believe so....just the top bracket can be loosened and adjusted manually. Also one mistake I made on my review is that before doing two star alignment.....when pointing Telescope North you have to make sure the OTA is pointed level.
You forgot to put the OTA level when pointing north. The first slew caused the scope to point at the zenith and the eyepiece collided with the top of the mount.
I have a c8 and a Meade 10 with an atlas eq-g. It's kinda big to quickly set up. I am looking at buying this in the 6 inch mak version. Do you still like this scope and mount almost 1 year later?
Hi Tornado Crew.... I actually Do like this Scope....I must confess that I'm not out very often with it as I lead a very busy life..but when the " Stars line up right" I take it out!! 😆 You hit the nail on the head about the Portability issue. Its why I sold my 8" Skywatcher 200p....even Collapsible....it was too bulky to move and enjoy....so I sold it fortunately for what I paid for. It was an awesome scope....With that said...this is a much more Portability friendly ACF ...particularly with the 6" tube ...and the integral Battery packs. The fact that you have the option of buying and interchanging a larger OTA or another type of Scope makes it the PERFECT Choice...So I Recommend this!!!
@@TornadoCrewStormChasers Awesome!! Eventually I will get some type of Short tube refractor to mount next to it. I love this scope. One day I need to head West into a dark zone where there its Stars & milkyway galaxies galore!!!
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus Jim I also got some look at reviews on the telescope that you were sharing it looks great the six inch telescope and there were really mix reviews some we're saying that the mount doesn't work very well at all but the scope itself is excellent scope it sounds like this is a new scope for you and I'm considering buying one myself but I've really taken my time Thanks for your input Mike
My LX85 M6 giving me trouble as the focuser knob is able to slide in and out a bit as well turn. Is is normal? My old Meade refactor is spot on sharp focus.
I actually was going to buy the ETX 125 but got a great deal on the LX65. The only way you can mount the ETX125 would be to remove the Tube or (OTA)and mount a dovetail on it so it can slide onto the dovetail receiver . You are probably better off trying to sell your ETX125 for parts....which seeing they are no longer available may be worthwhile $$
@@Jimswholiestofcoleus hi Jim . It was given to me . And the hand box don’t work . Then got another one from eBay and I think it Broke that one up. I don’t want to spend a tone of cash . I think for now I’m going to go with a manual base . Tripod .

This is a very outlandish claim considering there are plate solving setups out there on EQ mounts and AZ mounts that are way better and have basically automatic alignment procedures. The Meade light switch series does this. All this add date star alignment crap is old school. My setup just takes an image figures out where it's pointing in about 3 seconds and it's dialed in. Way easier and faster. Just sayin.
Appreciate your comment...There are DOZENS of Computerized Telescopes out there...and new tech coming out. But If you filter out Your techy point....the Ability to place two OTA's side by side and have the Audiostar interaction makes this the Best Telescopes at a Very affordable price.

there's one of these on marketplace near me for $600, good deal? Was thinking I should try and lowball, but would $500 be a deal?

If you connect your laptop, are top able to use a guide scope? Or do you just use the laptop as a more convenient hand controller?
Agreed. A battery to save the settings on audiostar.
And how easily a lithium ion watch battery can be included in the handset .
