    For those who follow this tutorial with Blender 4.2+
    1. blend mode and shadow mode has been changed.
    -> find Render method and change it from Dithered to Blended.
    2. 5:55 align euler to vector has been deprecated. connect as followes:
    -> 'Active camera' > (object) 'Object info' (location) > (vector) 'align rotation to vector'

      I'm not sure why, the the transparency doesnt work for me like it is in 8:40. My node tree looks exactly the same and I found the new updated settings you were talking about. But it's still not working for me.

    • @Hqwater0201

      @ there could be other settings contributing no transparency. To check this, i need to see the blend file.

      I'm noticing when in my Mix Node, no matter what Blending Mode I select, they all turn orange. I'm thinking that has something to do with it.

    • @theaterhobo
      @theaterhobo 23 дня назад

      I got it. My math node was still set to Add and not multiply. Still don't know what the orange means. But whatever.

    5:55 If you use the recently added "Active Camera" node this effect won't break if you change cameras, Edit: also if you stick a "Bake" node on the end you can lock the billboard's rotation to prevent flickering (alternatively targeting an empty placed near the camera could work too)

    Hey, thank you so much for your tutorials. I seem to be having a problem, and I'm not sure it's due to different versions of blender though (I'm on 4.1.1). For some reason, when connecting the voronoi and the gradient to the mix color node, and setting it to 1, the whole cloud becomes invisible, and sometimes it only shows the effect on one small part of the cloud. I'm not sure what could be causing this. If I reverse the order of connection on the mix color node, it works, but the particles become very squareish. If you know what could be causing this, I'd be forever grateful, your tutorials are great and I'm very thankful for them. Thanks again!
    Also, what is the purpose of the plane?
    Edit
    I've been messing around a bit more, and it seems that when I resize the cloud and make it smaller, the effect works, but only on a small radius around the origin. I'm so confused
    Edit
    I'm very stupid, I connected the object info location to the gradient, which you never did in the video. I'm not deleting the comment in case someone makes the same mistake as I did 🙃

    i think starting from empty blend files is where your channel makes the difference some people would just asume the viewer already knows the basics and they show stuff pre made thats a -1. Im a firm believer if it is a tutorial dont assume anything just go step by step like in this case.

    Could you please tell me how to animate these in a way that looks good?

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  8 месяцев назад +1

      @ApurvaBhure Oh, all you would need to do is very gradually move them from one side, left or right, to the other. If you're going for the anime style, nearly all anime I've seen has only ever had clouds move from a right to left motion, or vice versa. It may break the illusion of 2D if you move these clouds closer or further away from the camera throughout an animation, which is why I recommend animating them perpendicular to the camera, moving on a clear horizontal line. I hope this helps 😄

    In Blender 4.2, the blend mode and shadow mode UI have changed compared to the version used in this tutorial, and I'm totally lost. The cloud isn't translucent at all. Can you give some advice for people using Blender 4.2?

    • @ComfeeMug
      @ComfeeMug  3 месяца назад +1

      @빵빵덕-v6p Yes, I do plan on making an updated clouds tutorial, as well as a tutorial bridging the changes between 4.1 and 4.2.
      But to help you now, in the same menu where the transparency settings used to be, make sure that Backface Culling is enabled for Camera, Shadow and Light Probe Volume. Then, scroll down a bit to enable Transparent Shadows if it isn't already, and then below that you will reach the option labeled "Render Method," and change it from Dithered to Blended. That should make it transparent again, but if not, let me know and I'll look into this more 😄

      @rikovladimir8655 SAME, I've been scared of learning geometry nodes too, haha. But they actually open up so many more possibilities and make things a lot easier and faster! Maybe some day soon I can make a beginner's tutorial for geometry nodes to make it all feel easy and simple to learn 😄

    What toon shader do you recommend for anime?

      @Lloyd_2001 Good question! I actually made a tutorial for a toon shader that can react to different colors of light in your scenes. I'll link it below if you're interested :D
