Honestly, it's completely unnatural that Viltrum actually got defeated in the comics. Highly sufficient, filled with citizens who are not only immortal and extremely easy to sustain are also walking weapons with a danger level of a nuclear warhead. No way, it is possible to stop such a thing. Every other empire in the world was deafeted by either the fact that human nature being flawed or by the fact, that it was destroyed by more powerful adversary. Viltrum is perfect. Viltrumites are not self indulgent, they are fearless, they are almost impossible to kill. Their emperor is basically a God. No way, nothing can defeat such thing. Only thing writers could think of is this stupid hug time trope, where villainous person need to kissed in the check and overwhelmed by kindness to be defeated. I mean, they live for hundred of years, why would they even think off negotiating with other species. I don't see people negotiating with dogs or flies other their diplomatic status.
