    Thanks for watching! Always be sure to pack for the temperature you will be hiking in. I should be finishing my camino in early November which is why I haven't included warmer gear in my bag. I've become used to the cold with living in the midwest off and on for the last decade. Always pack for what you need, especially if you are more warm-blooded or cold-natured. Comfort is key!

    First of all, I really applaud your courage to go back to the Camino, and face your fears. Your positivity is infectious and inspiring! I also admire how you're using gear that you already have, and things that you know will work for you, instead of buying everything new just for the single purpose of the Camino.
    I'd love to hear if you ditched one or two sets of the tops & pants after the feedback you got - the Columbia rain jacket can double up as a windbreaker too. Also, as you pointed out, the 7 kg plus the things you haven't got yet is the from-skin-out weight, once you put the items you'll be wearing on yourself, the weight of your pack will go down and you will get some extra space as well.
    The buff could double up as an eye mask for sleeping, great choice - and it was smart to bring vitamin C that can double up as electrolytes. I hope you had a great time and came back feeling fulfilled!

    • @FNDingMyWay
      @FNDingMyWay  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you so much for your sweet comment 😊 Honestly, I tried and tried to downsize after the feedback, and I did end up ditching the swimsuit and I think an extra pair of underwear. I don't recall what I had clothingwise in this video, but I took 3 tops and three bottoms (one set was a post shower/sleeping outfit). I'll be doing some post camino videos once I've finished uploading the hiking series and will go back over my gear and discuss what changed and what I wouldn't take again, etc.

    I think your gear looks pretty good, with one exception… too many pants/shirts. I think you have 4 each? Maybe think about only 3 each. I am packing to leave in about a week. I am doing 3 of each (tops/bottoms/undies) as I think I overpacked before. Buen Camino!! 🎉

    • @spannymakronkeep8673

      Looks good, I'm just going to list what I think: take the big towel, enough to wrap around your body, along the way have a plastic bag for your used wipes. Consider a trowel to dig a cat hole. I use wired ear buds instead of earplugs, I put on a podcast or something to listen to instead of snoring. One buff is enough, washcloth not necessary. Instead of that heavy lock, look into a cable lock. Too many clothes, just rain jacket, no windbreaker. 1 pair of shorts only, consider capris(I don't like to wear shorts in churches or cities) if you don't want long pants. I sleep in my clothes for the next day so I have 3 shirts, 2 pants. Skip the daybag, get a dry sack for your bag liner, you can use that to send stuff ahead. Remember that you can take everything now and evaluate on the way and send stuff ahead via Correos where they will hold it at the Santiago post office until you arrive. Buen Camino!

      @@FNDingMyWaythey will hold it for 45 days. You can also send stuff ahead to Casa Ivar. You can also start where you left off and keep using your credential. It never expires. Many people do a part of the Camino every year. I only last about 2-3 weeks before I skeddadle home. I live in Spain now so the travel isn't a big deal.

  • @1DrBar
    @1DrBar Год назад

    I truly like your sense of humor. It's one of the first things to pack on any longer trip, and you'd be the sunshine of a cloudy day for nearby hikers.
    Coming from watchings a steady diet of ultra-light hiking video, it's a bit refreshing and oh so different to see your approach to gear. The only things I would change out in the name of the great ultra-light deity is that I'd replace all the gear bags with dyneema bags and save what i would guess is a pound and a half or so. I'm also a big fan of 100 percent wool shirts and about a 70 or 80 percent wool socks. It stinks far less and is surprisingly warm without being hot and sticky in humid weather at the same time.
    I have two questions. Firstly, is your backpack frameless or with a frame, and how large is it? Secondly, does everyone stay in hostels or is there any wild camping to be had along the way?
    I've long thought about "somedays" doing the same route, but am not a fan of hostels and the crowds now, how large do the hiker groups get?

    • @FNDingMyWay
      @FNDingMyWay  Год назад +1

      Thank you! I love wool but all of my wool socks and clothes are heavier duty because of where we live (upper midwest). I just couldn't bring myself to spend the money on more woolen items, maybe some day though! Fortunately, nothing I'm taking is cotton (except the socks are a blend I believe) so the hiking odors stay pretty low. But yes, I'd love to upgrade to wool one day, maybe as things wear out!
      My bag isn't framless, it has a rigid back structure. If I were to buy another bag down the line, I'd be interested in trying frameless just because it seems like it would be easier to convince airlines that it's a carryon since it would be squishable.
      When I walked last year, the crowds weren't bad. I read that only a small number actually start from st jean pied de port and walk the entire way, so starting at the beginning should give you a smaller crowd. It's that last 100km that apparently gets extremely crowded because that's the required distance to recieve a certificate. But also the time you go makes a difference. I assume summer would just be madness. I always travel after summer for the crowd reason.
      There's not wild camping because you're walking through private property a lot, but some hostels will let you set up a tent in their yard for a small fee, and there is the options of private rooms too.
      And as for hiker groups, they can be as big or as small as you want. 😉 hope I answered all your questions!

    Hi. A very nice video. I leave in 3 weeks for my thirt camino. Maybe you can get the weight of the pack down? You have not everything in your pack yet and also have to carry water and food. A too heavy pack will give you so much trouble and pain. Good luck and buen camino!

    • @FNDingMyWay
      @FNDingMyWay  Год назад

      The weight should go down once I take out the clothes I'll be wearing.. I would ideally like it to be a little lighter, however it's the same weight I carried last year and is under 10% of my weight. I've gone through it so many times trying to reduce what I'm carrying and just getting stumped on what could stay behind 😫 Do you mind sharing what your pack weighs? Packing is such a struggle! Thanks!

      @@FNDingMyWay i have reduces and reduced and am now at a packweight of 5.9 kg and a bunnbag of 500 gram without water and food. It is realy difficult. Make a pile of what you realy need. And one with what you want. You realy need only two outfits and soap;-). Then play with the piles until you are happy. The 10% rule is only a guide not a rule. @FNDingMyWay  9 месяцев назад +1

      The one I bought was horrible to try to get water from, but I also met people along the camino whose bladders leaked inside their bags or they couldn't fill all the way because it takes up so much room inside their bags, like they had packed their bags not accounting for the space a full bladder would take up, and also just the pain of removing the bladder to fill it every day. Just not worth it to me, but I also know a lot of people love them, so it just depends on the person and preferences.
