Healing music - Schubert - Unfinished Symphony (pt. 1)

Franz Schubert (1797-1828) started composing this symphony in 1822 and finished two parts of it, leaving sketches for the third part. To this day, it is not clear why Schubert did not complete it. It may have had something to do with his health condition at the time; or with his inspiration for the Wanderer fantasy for piano at the time. Many do agree, however, that this is an astonishing work that set a new standard for emotional impact in the romantic era. It is sometimes called the first romantic symphony.
This performance is by the renowned Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Bernard Haitink. Sound quality on this video has been slightly enhanced using Roland equipment.
