2wd excursion with an open diff that’s all jacked up to look badass can’t even pull an empty trailer out of the water. Lol!

@@mattede8744 My 72 IH Travelall could of done that easy. yes its 4x4, But i hardly use it, its there when i need it. Its even heavyer then a Excursion.

Props to the guy giving up control and he now knows the proper way to exit thanks to a helpful teacher. Release some tire pressure and slow on the throttle. Instead of being stubborn and possibly sinking his car he got to park the trailer and enjoyed a day on the water with his fam.
The guy who jumped in knows what he’s doing. Notice he had the brakes applied while pulling out. That’s to prevent the wheels from spinning. Mucho smart!
I didn't catch that, I had to go back to see it for myself. I don't see why it worked though, he should have used the parking brake so the front brakes wouldn't grab at all
Dustin Tunis doesn't matter. It takes a very fine touch on the pedal but it works.

I noticed your comment...I used to do the same thing years ago in my mustang pulling a flat bottom v-drive, I’d use the parking/hand brake & riding the clutch while pulling out to keep from spinning!!! worked everytime!
Re minds me of the first time launching my 28’. I was worried about scraping the shiny new prop. So i backed up a little too much. As soon as the boat floated, the trailer floated and so did the truck(chevy 3500 dually) 5 tires in the water(spare was under there) empty bed and almost empty tank that did it. I had it in 4wd, so i pulled it out, but learned a lesson that day.
I just bought an Excursion and I can't imagine buying one without 4WD and then adding a lift and big tires...lmao! It's like buying a 2WD Jeep what a waste!
The Anxiety created by putting in at this spot must be insane haha.
Especially when you have no idea what you are doing.
If you’re spinning one rear wheel, apply your parking brake slowly until the spinning wheel stops. Both wheels will then provide drive. Once you’re out of the slippery patch don’t forget to release the parking brake.
I wish car dealers would teach this when people buy an SUV.

@@Bubbles99718 I suppose you could do the same with a front wheel drive vehicle that has the parking brake applying to the front wheels, by reversing up the ramp. You could hook a chain from a front tow point on the vehicle to the boat trailer.

Same, was considering a Midnight Express, but those things are as popular as honda civics on the water. After a few videos I see the MTI V series just cruise through riding mostly on the back half of the boat, leaving the bow up to catch the peak of the next wave. Race boat blood in a v hull, yep that's my choice.
MAN! Docking is so simple unless it's your first time. Approach at a 45* angel (slow) just before you touch the front go reverse turn full lock steering wheel to the dockside short sharp rev to pull back of the boat to the dock then hit neutral, you can do this on your own. GooD LucK!
That’s why you don’t lift a 2wd vehicle, esp one with an open diff. All show and no go!
Had he aired way down, if would have come straight out! Then again, checking the trailer is NOT caught up underneight the surface would/should have been a priority too

Yeah, I was first wondering the same: why no diff locks? And if its a 2WD its really the wrong choice for this. I borrow my mother-in-law's Audi 4WD when i need to get the boat up... :)
I assume in Florida 4wd isn’t that common. The only time I need it is when the water is so low I have to back off the ramp to get the boat off the trailer.
This channel is pure gold. This is what it looks like when people with money buy things they have no reason to be buying.
the question i have is how is that excursion ever going to pull the trailer out with the boat loaded on it????
Weight should be enough to put pressure on the back tires to get a better grip.

Ha. Really enjoyed the narration on this episode. Since you started this channel I’ve noticed for some reason most people don’t have lines ready until they’re sideways between the docks and then they grab a 20 ft dock line off the floor that’s all knotted up.
That one blows me away. You see that with peeps who have lost an engine as well. Hard to say it's anything other than what it is: this person is stupid.
On that excursion applying slight brake pressure will ensure that power is sent to both rear wheels and not just one. The helper has definitely been around the dock a few times
You want to do it with the parking brake though, only a few clicks. Due to applying the normal brakes will put pressure on the front wheels also, making more resistance for going up. Where the parking brake on a few clicks will only put brakes on the rear wheels. You have to deal with this problem a lot in the snow.

When a tire is spinning apply the brakes also it will help the differential transfer power to the wheel that isn't spinning...works to in offroading situations as well
I had some people that didn’t know you actually have to turn the knob and lock the hubs for 4wd to work.
this year has auto hubs, if teh vaccum fails you need to override it. but looks like it has after market wheels, so you would need to pull the whole tire off.
@@cordellroberson532 Just the center cap needs to come off to engage the hubs. I have manual lockouts and floor shifter on my 72 International. Non of that electronic crap.

I have aftermarket old school type wheels on mine and I leave the center caps off anyway.

Good job for the guy who helped the Excursion. He knew how to get the wheels to lock up and to take it slow. Also let the guy know to drop some air pressure.

i love it when wavy boats, bronco, Haulover, and Miami boat ramps all post on one day.
For Mr.Excursion, if you're in a rear wheel drive, especially an open diff. Give the E/Parking brake a few clicks. It will put the brake on a little bit and lock the rear wheels together, instead of just spinning the one wheel. Every now and then we have to do that on snow. That's if you don't have 4wd.
Ah, docking when you have a strong tidal current that is counter to the direction of the wind (notice the direction that the flags are waving at 4:00). A lot of people get suckered into playing the wind instead of the current which is often stronger and faster. Great time to set up a chair and pop open a beer.
4 wheel drive only for me, algae makes some ramps slick as ice up north.
Yeah it's pretty crazy, like black ice.

I've seen 20-year captians in FL screw up dockings. It can happen to anyone thanks for at least not acting like you're the best at docking EVER and never made a mistake!

At first I thought that guy had backed in so deep that the trailer dropped off the back side of the ramp. Now we know what the real problem was.
And no, I don't think the guy that hopped in the truck found the 4wd switch. Excursions were made in RWD models as well. I just think he found out a way to ease up the ramp using a combination of brake and throttle to account for the slippage of the tires.
I believe you are correct or he drove throu the brake the first driver was releasing it you can see the difference in driving because of the taillights

Well think it was supposed to have 4x4 but if anyone knows Ford you know they were stuck in between the 20 and 21 century with there vacuums on the 4x4 on those years but what did second dude do right he probably 2 footed one on brake and one on gas letting of brakes while appliance of the gas like he was working a clutch
More than once I have put a trusted friend in the vehicle and then put the boat on the trailer, chained the front of the boat to the trailer and used the boat to push everything out of the water. Works great.
If you only have rear wheel drive and are trying to pull your boat out of the dock and one of your rear wheels is spinning I would advise putting a little pressure on the brake pedal as you're trying to drive out. The pressure is going to stop the wheel from spinning and get the other wheel some more power and traction.

@@phil7791 they cost less to buy, and less to maintain. I love my 4x4 but I can understand the cost and maintenance. When you do the front end you also have the axles, twice the ball joints, got to check fluids on the front pumpkin. I don't mind because I do my own work mainly because I don't trust shops after a few bad experiences.

With an open differential the tire with the least resistance is the one that spins. To counteract that, simply apply your parking park a little to "trick" your differential into applying power to both wheels. And very easy on the throttle.

Burnouts are ilegal on public roads as far as I know.
Finally someone knows to lightly apply the brakes while trying to pull up the ramp to keep the rear wheels from spinning in a 2WD vehicle. One foot on the brake and one on the gas. As soon as the tires spin the friction between the tires and pavement go down dramatically.

Ford Excursion at 6:26...
First can’t believe it doesn’t have 4wd or even a posi rear (both rear wheels have equal traction)
Tip : pull up on your emergency brake slightly building pressure as you add throttle. This will equalize the pressure on the open rear and throw traction to both rear wheels.
The real thing to do is if your towing a boat when you buy a truck get a stout one with 4wd and use it on the ramp. It will keep you out of trouble.
If you hit a patch of algae on the rear wheels the only thing keeping you from drowning the rig are those front wheels 😉

secret to cars with "open" rear ends, that means which ever tire has the LEAST amount of traction, spins.
either set the parking brake to a medium pull, or ride the brakes slightly. the resistance may be enough to get the tire WITH traction pulling.
That is what the guy at end did, notice the brake lights are on, the whole time going up ramp, he was riding the brakes. It a trick most cold weather drivers aware of.
Ok guys so maybe everyone doesn’t know, but all boat launches have about a 10 foot drop off past a certain length, so the trailer drops off and gets hung on it. This is why you see guys like the one at 6:21 sit there and spin. This is also one more reason you don’t want to put your trailer any more in than needed to just float your boat off. Or, to just recover it bare bones basic.
So glad I have 4x4.
If you look closely the guy in the expedition had the emergency brake on! The helper pointed to it and you can see the owner reach under the dash. So all he had to do was release the emergency brake and the truck pulls right out!!
If he puts in 1st gear that will never happen. Also he went to deep with the trailer it looks like. I love your channels. Keep up the awesome work.

Just another day at the boat ramps.. Lolol...
The last guy was so obvious. He didn't have it in 4WD , the guy who jumped in at the end put it in after he realized it ,you could tell because all 4 tires started pulling with power
i know im a few months late but no he didnt put it in 4wd that one didnt have the logo for 4wd. What he did was 2 foot drive it by using the brake to keep the tire from breaking traction, once you spin you lose all grip.
That last boater could have eased the boat's bow against the trailer bow roller . with the boat engine running & in forward eased the boat forward to give the truck some forward momentum to help to move slightly up the ramp, then stop & finish loading the boat on the trailer BUT it takes real coordination to pull off a maneuver like this that not too many weekend warriors are capable of.

I use this ramp alot...when lm approaching l throw a beer can in the water to gauge what the wind and current is doing, never fails

We pulled our 1500 pound Compac out of the water with a ford Taurus, never slipped or struggled once. The look on other boater's faces as we pulled out effortlessly while their super-duty mega truck is stuck spinning rooster tails trying to pull out a center console, quite comical from my perspective.

The trailer fell off the end of the concrete ramp, it's a common problem, you should try not to sink your trailer in the water if you don't know the length of the ramp and the conditions at the end of the ramp

The problem wasn't a parking brake, it was that he wasn't using the brakes. With an open differential a little brake pressure can prevent this situation where you have one wheel spinning. The second guy knew this and got that Excursion out of there like a pro. Watch it again and watch the brake lights.
That last one with the Ford Excursion couldn't tell in the video possibly his tires are bald if he had very very bad tires that would happen although the other guy got it out with no problem so that's funny

Normally where I live it’s more wind than current, so I dock against the wind. It’ll push my boat away from the dock. No scratches that way.

The guy with the Excursion backed the trailer off the end of the ramp. The wheels are hung up on a concrete ledge.

Here in Michigan any form of power loading is illegal. Maybe the same thing there?? Prop wash destroys the dock and ramps over time.

We were at Lake Weir boat ramp at Carney Island Park, wish I had my camera going, watched a guy with a boarrowed boat drop the trailer wheels off the ramp. He decided that stomping the gas would hop it back up, but instead his drive shaft broke and dropped. We gave him and the boat a ride to the owner's house. That old man was soo mad that this dude was late bringing it back. He didn't even care why. Shocker? Don't know how it ended for the truck as we didn't stick around for any of that.
When that happens, you might as well unload and try again, otherwise you're almost guaranteed more expensive grief.
