    My wife met me at the boat ramp with the trailer. I expected her to park and wait for me to back it down. To my surprise she backed it right down. It was her first time. She did it alone and the ramp was a tough one with a tight turn. She said she learned just by watching me. Impressed.

    1. There is clearly a breeze across the dock. Manoeuvering a lightweight vessel with a relatively high freeboard would be tricky, even for an expert.
    2. The shorter a trailer is, the more difficult it is to reverse.
    3. A very low trailer can be invisible from the drivers seat. With my boat trailer, when empty, I deliberately weave slightly in reverse in order to keep a reference.

    I’ve been launching boats and jet ski’s for years and never had these problems. That being said, I’ve never tried in rough weather like you see at Haulover. Also, all my launching has been on the Great Lakes in Ontario and the ramp placement seems to be a lot better. I’ve never had to contend with current like most of these guys seem to be doing. For me the backing up a trailer has also never been an issue. As a youth I learned to back a hay wagon up a ramp into a hay loft. After that boat trailers are a piece of cake.

    • @michiganengineer8621
      @michiganengineer8621 3 года назад

      _MOST_ boat ramps in the rivers around the Great Lakes seem to be pretty sheltered from the currents, and we only have to really worry about a current coming from one direction, not nearly as much tidal effect!

    The guy on the wave runner that was handed the purse was hilarious, he looked really confused.
    That girl backing the small trailer with the Cadillac was not a nube. I’m sure she couldn’t see the trailer at all until it was really out of shape and she was backing using her mirrors. If she had a wide trailer she could back it in no problems and she needed to stop listening to the guy trying to guide her.

    Someone needs to teach people to dock!!!!
    For most of these boats, the easiest way is to set the bow into the dock, then with the bow line attached loosely, back up the boat with steering full lock to bring the back around.
    Alternatively, you can stern in, then forward full lock to bring the bow around.

    Why is it so hard for these people to figure out. Tie off your bow line ,turn your motor towards the dock and put it in reverse.

    I think all the Keyboard Captains commenting here are funnier than the video. Everybody’s an expert until they actually have to launch or dock a boat themselves.

    For living in a state surrounded by water, people absolutely suck at backing in their boats.

    A big part of having a boating licence should be demonstrating you can back up with a trailer...WTF!
