Me too! I retighten my own microlocs and I have 760 locs and came here looking for an alternative because it takes me 16 hours to retighten them. I am so excited, I am going to try this in about 2-3 weeks.
This is a great tutorial. Thank you because I’m just learning to retie my Locs and it takes forever! How often do you retie since you retwist now? Also how often do you retwist?
Sis, you are a blessing. I’m traveling the world and am exhausted with trying to find a sisterlock loctician and stay on schedule. I’m over it! Will be using your tutorial during my travels. Thanks for sharing!🙏🏽
I love this! I had traditional locs before my current micro loc set and i enjoyed being able to do (retwist) my own hair..with micros interlocking is the “rule” i hate salons..so thank you for this
I started my traditional locks with 2 strand twists . I only did retwist for 4years had no problems. I retwisted every 2-3 weeks when I washed my hair. My hair was the bomb always wore it curly by simply plaiting it. I changed because they became heavy even though they were on the smaller side. Now have microlocs 4th time!! Hope they last. Thanks for the tip. Will definetly try this route.
Okay I’m sold. I have my micro Locs appointment in two weeks. I had traditional for 18 years and now this new journey , I’m so excited for these microlocs!
I'm on my second set and this is my first set of micros. This is the first and only video I've seen that j told myself I CAN DO THAT!!!!! I've been asking for a good method to maintain my micros for forever. Also, is that water in the spray bottle??? And the gel, is it sticky, slick, smooth??...... Seeing you do this was very helpful. I'll be twisting very soon.
Thank you for making a video on this method. My mom and I both have microlocs. But with the way these prices getting, I rather do my own hair. And this is simple. I am definitely sharing the video with my mom.
I tried your method yesterday and I could not be happier! I am on my second set of locs (almost two months in) and I asked for interlocing. My hair is thinner on the top due to aging, so this was the method I used on my last set. This set is a lot smaller (not sister or micro. not sure what it is). I was happy with the outcome, but I have never had diagonal parts which has made my hair look thin on the top. I am not sure how long these twists will last, but I am happy with the results. Thank sis!
Girl! I must say, this video is giving me hope! I make 1 year next month but my hair gets SO frizzy in between my retightening appointments! Im definitely thinking of starting to do this! What do you think about using both methods to maintain? Retighten every 8 weeks with a retwist at the 4 week mark?
I think that’s awesome! Just keep track of how long it takes for your shed hair to start locking. For me it’s 12 weeks. I just did a full interlocking after 12 weeks and was able to retie the entirety of it. I noticed a few locks where it was starting to matt at the top of where I interlocked previously. I simply loosened it up before interlocking.
Thanks for sharing your talent…I’ve been wondering if this was possible and here it is ❤. I’m 9 months in on this journey and I love it so far. I’m looking forward to trying this. 😊❤
I want to cry. I spent 34 hours on my retie the first and 3rd time, and 18 hours the 2nd time, only because I retied at 4 weeks versus 6 weeks. I'm so over it. So I'm going to try your method. 😅
How hard is it doing the back? I can’t keep affording a retie every 4 weeks. So I’m considering twisting my own hair from here on out. I also have a lot of new growth and my hair doesn’t grow inside. Any further suggestions?
I am definitely going to start retwisting instead. I hav 302 locs and severe asthma so interlocking takes soo long and chest hurts too much. I usually retie a few hours over 3 days
Great tutorial! I just retwisted my hair for the first time today. I decided to do that method since I’m wanting to start maintaining my locs myself. My question is… I’ve heard people say once they oil their scalp, the retwist unravels. Has that been your experience? I know retwists don’t last as long as reties but I need to oil my scalp lol
Hey!!! I’m seriously wanting to begin this process with my microlocs!!! Thanks so much for posting this video! How often are you washing your hair? I wash mine once per week. Do the washes affect your retwists??
I am so happy to see this video bc I want to Microloc my hair but when I think of the maintenance timing and costs I got discouraged but this is giving me motivation again. How long does this last? I’ve heard loctician say that retwisting microlocs will make your locs thin and fall out but idk if that’s true what do you think ?
This is beautiful to watch. Would this cause a variation in the size of each loc due to the parts that were retightened (thinner) and the parts that are retwisted (thicker)?
Great question. The parts that were thinner when I retied were only thin at the beginning. They eventually swell up like the rest of the loc. I will be interlocking all the new growth every 3-4 months so everything will stay even. Retwists just maintain my locks and keep them from breaking at the roots until I interlock again.
As a loctician, I just want to state that what you're referring to as new growth is also slippage. Our hair typically grows half an inch a month so some of the locs have new growth AND slippage. Anyone can have slippage. Our hair doesnt loc overnight and new growth definitely doesn't fully loc in 6 to 8 weeks but that's just my professional opinion.
I think possibly you might have misunderstood what I’m saying or maybe I don’t understand your comment. My hair doesn’t loc in 6-8 weeks, it takes closer to 3-4 months for the shed hair to start locking (for me personally). However, what you see here is definitely new growth. I don’t have slippage, I never have. My hair just started growing extremely fast because i’m pregnant (this also happened when I was a loose natural) I just didn’t want disclose the full reason behind the fast growth because I was very early on.
I suddenly understood what you meant about hair not locking in 6-8 weeks. YES! This applies to retwisted locks and YES all of that would NOT be new growth, because hair doesn’t lock in 6-8 weeks. HOWEVER this doesn’t apply in my case because I INTERLOCKED 6-8 weeks ago. :) This was my first or second time retwisting. I am keeping track of my new growth from my last INTERLOCKING session because I can see where that begins. i do not base my new growth from the last time I retwisted because you’re absolutely correct - as soon as the hair gets wet, the retwist unravels. I didn’t realize that is what yoh meant. Pregnant brain I guess haha
@@theminimalistnaturalI appreciate your video. Your hair came out beautiful. I always wanted to retwist my hair. I’m always sick and my loctitian is always booked. Natural styles are supposed to be easier. This is definitely easier.❤️

Hi. I love your hair. So, have you ever interlocked your hair, even when you started your Journey? I want to lock mine, but I don’t want to interlock at all.
Mine already is unraveled once I wash it. it reverts back to regular new growth. The point of unraveling it is so they can interlock all the new growth. For a lot of ppl like me, the retwist is just a way to stretch out how often we have to retie. Someone who reties every 8 weeks and someone who retwists 3 times in 8 weeks have the same amount of hair to retwist/retie. All retwisting does is give the hair a structure until the next wash day. Interlocking actually creates a permanent structure that doesn’t unravel after getting wet. Retwisting doesn’t create a loc. Does that make sense? Great question by the way
