  • Do you have a flash, but no flash triggers? Don't worry, there's another way to fire your flash off of your camera! This is a short tutorial on how to use the slave modes (s1, s2) of your Yongnuo YN-560 Speedlight to fire your flash off of your camera without the use of wireless flash triggers.

    I was looking for the difference between S1 and S2 modes, not for this particular flash but in general, as they appear on most budget speedlights but their online listings never explain what they mean. Your explanation was simple and concise. Thank you!

    When using the focus point during a dark situation the laser bean built in the the speedlight beams out and points to the subject, just like the focus point, in order to get a correct focus shoot. Which I understand.
    Now when I'm using the wireless trigger during dark situation the laser bean built in the speedlight beams out not toward the subject only the focus point. I still do get a correct focus shot but want to know why it does that when using wireless triggers.

    I use my hand to partially cover the pop up flash because even if the pop up is set to -2 it'll still contaminate the photo.

    • @zeroprofit947
      @zeroprofit947 9 лет назад

      Justin Feroz You could try backing the camera away from the subject and zoom in. This will greatly lessen the effect of the built in camera flash while still maintaining the desired effect of the off-camera flash.

    I have a Yongnou 560 IV . Tried the slave mode with my 600d Canon. Using the Canon Built in Flash to trigger the Yongnuo off camera flash.
    Seems like When I try the off camera flash. Put the Yongnuo to the side of the subject. .. Increase the shutter speed to 120 ms of the camera, seems like the Shutter Takes a shot first and then the Yongnuo flash activates and flashes. Seems like there is delay on the flash. Picture is Dark like ther is no flash ? But the Flash Fires up.
    Does this happen also on the Wireless transmitters of Yongnuo like the RC603 C with the YOngnuo 560 IV ?
    Pls help.

      You would have to attach a PC sync cable to the camera and may need one of the little flash brackets.
      Why would you want to use the camera in that configuration?

    I've been to 2 events with little children finishing kindergarden..I had my flashes in slave modes because I don't own flash triggers and I can't stress how important is to have flash triggers..when all the parents start to take photos of their kids with their point and shoot with flash on my flashes fired on and on,sometimes they didn't fire for me because they just fired for some random parent..not funny

    Hi there, I am trying a YN685 flash with Nikon D7000. Can't make the optical trigger with in built camera flash. There are slave modes as 622 R. Slave, 622 M. Slave and 603 Slave. Any suggestion how to make it work as an off camera flash using optical trigger? Cheers Ankan

    • @jammin023
      @jammin023 6 лет назад

      The YN685 is intended to slave to 2.4GHz wireless transmitters, specifically the YN-622 and YN-603. As far as I can see it does not have an optical slave function at all.

    • @bedevere007
      @bedevere007 7 лет назад

      I mean in S1 mode. Basically, I have 2 560 and it doesn't support high speed sync so I wonder if it's a slave and gets the flash from the 600, I imagine it might work?

    • @cremonster
      @cremonster 8 лет назад +2

      +Joy Costa no, when he says that the external flash fires when it "sees" the camera's built in flash, he means wirelessly, not physically

    • @illustr8ing
      @illustr8ing 7 лет назад

      William James William James no he means the opposite. He is talking about optical slave mode. The flashbulb from the camera triggers the OCF optically. So yes, the OCF needs to be within line of sight to the on cam flash.

    I liked the video but gave it a thumbs down cause even though you went over the settings and the modes and buttons, you failed yet again in another tutorial to mention how we can use HSS (high speed sync) with the flash... Please make a tutorial on high speed sync where you show how to set it up, from the stand, to whether or not your can use triggers to how to set it up with your camera and what flash you use for HSS...

    • @LogansRun91
      @LogansRun91 10 лет назад +4

      That's unfortunate you gave the video a thumbs down, seeing as how he did not say he would be covering HSS. Also, the 560's do not even have HSS, so he could not have covered this even if he wanted to.

    • @Ndrums2
      @Ndrums2 10 лет назад

      LogansRun91 Did he say that in the video because I didn't hear it... In that case, I will change my thumbs down to a thumbs up... Thanks for your input... =) ...
