redhatgnome This is 100% true. A modest, reverent woman has a POWERFUL effect on a man spiritually (and likewise, the converse is also true). I found this out a few months ago when I started wearing a veil to mass. I've been singing in the choir about a year now, and we have communion brought to us by one of the extraordinary ministers, an older gentleman dressed in a suit. I used to receive communion in the hand, standing, like the other choir members (only four others, all middle aged to older women). But a few months ago, I started to receive on the tongue. Then I began to receive kneeling. Then I began wearing a veil. The effect on this man is profound. I can feel that he is moved by my humility and reverence. I can tell he really loves our Lord in the Eucharist. Once on my way out after mass, as I was still veiled, I went to bless myself with holy water, and a man dressed in shorts with large tattoos turned his head to look at me. I don't know what he was thinking, but can't help feeling like my appearance had a definite effect on him.
I was out with some friends at a Renaissance Fair and there were women dressed with very tight low cut outfits. One of my friend's young sons that was with us noted the way they dressed to her mom saying "they are so immodest." His mom without skipping a beat told her son. "They don't know their own dignity so it will befall on you to guard their modesty by turning away.". I just thought that was a beautiful thing to say to her son.

Check out some of the statistics found on the Focus on the Family website. You will have to do a little digging, but it is such an important aspect to be aware of. Especially if one is in the midst of courtship and a family is in mind. Of course all humans, male or female will ultimately make their own decisions and are responsible for them. My sister is a criminal psychologist that has won many awards for introducing programs to the state that has lowered the percentage of prisoners that return to prison. One of the major identifying issues is almost always hands down the lack of a father role model or a horrible role model of a father, in men and women, though a contributing factor to immodesty, it is such a small outward evidence to the inward workings of ones heart.

Great video. As a Muslim woman who has spent a lot of time around Christians, I never saw this topic addressed within the Christian community. I'm happy that this has been addressed and has almost 100k views. Unfortunately the fashion industry is reaching out to many more people than that, and the major decision makers on what is stylish is often decided upon by men, as they lead the industry. I am stunned at how women are dressing to prom and for their sweet 16's these days compared to when I was that age. This is so troubling and should make all faiths work together to reestablish modesty in our society. The popular way of thinking is that less clothing is progressive and women have the right to bare it all and be naked. All praise be to God!

I'm very happy to say that I now dress modestly with long skirts and non-revealing tops. It's not too hard to find longer skirts as it is to find modest nice tops. I've been dressing in longs skirts and modest tops for the past couple of months and love it! It's not always easy but it's a necessary to do. It feels amazing to dress in non-revealing clothes and I know I'm pleasing our Lord and the Blessed Mother Mary.
I really loved the message behind this video even though I'm not Catholic (muslim here). Modesty is such an important value in today's society and one of the hardest to upkeep considering all the immodest material we are bombarded with in the media and in society around us. Love, love this!

I loved it when the young fellow said He is very passionate about this topic. Its very refreshing to hear. a friend of mine said its difficult to see her as his sister when a female dresses immodestly.
I doubt you have thought this through, because most likely you are a product of your up bringing... everywhere you look... women are objectified... all the clothes that are sold are "Sexy". Every song you listen to is about sex. Your body isn't an object it is holy, it is beautiful, and the church encourages modesty to guard and protect the dignity of your body. You too teach men to respect women by the way you dress and act. Show men you are more than T&A and that you are holy. Be Holy!
If you believe you are made in the image and likeness of God, that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and your very being is Holy... Dress like it, act like it, and pray like it. Your body is SUPPOSED to be Sexually attractive to men. It is supposed to Sexually arouse them... that is why you don't walk around naked, because your sexuality is HOLY, because Human Life is holy. You dress like sex isn't holy... you imply that human life isn't holy and scum will treat you like an object.

I'm finding in my own experience that men are NOT being modest either. STOP wearing skinny jeans because I can see your junk and so can other women too. Women are just trying to be "modest" by not mentioning it nor admitting that we ARE looking so that we can deal with the conviction of noticing your private in private.
I love this video! I always try my best to dress modestly, its hard in my school. The girls go around with their short shirts and short tops. When I go swimming I wear a swimsuit that is shorts and a type of tee shirt thats a swim suit (Its really cute, its pink with flowers LOVE IIT) And yah, I get made fun of..mostly by girls in string bikinis :P I always wanna tell a girl that dresses modestly that they look pretty, cause they do! :D Girls, dress modestly all the time!

Standards are great! The Church is a loving mother and her advice is vital for our salvation and society. However, there is a shortage of Catholics putting out modest clothing lines and styles. I've actually told my daughter to give a try at styling and if she likes it, perhaps she'd consider starting her own clothing line for women's fashions with modesty and dignity in mind.
This video help me understanding Modesty in a very explainable way. It's true that we/some girls don't get an explanation of how guys /men looks at us in general. I don't think that girls know that there is a different between what they see and what guys see. Most of the time when a girl is in a clothing store and she is about to try on some clothes, the only clothing items she will pick up is what's in trend. The thing with the clothing industry is that most of the time there are men who makes, designe and styles the woman clothing. That makes it even harder to find something that is modest and your style.

I consider myself a modest dresser. I do not wear short shorts in public. I do not wear any shorts in public unless at a beach to cover bathing suit. Do not wear bathing suit without a shirt covering it. I do not shave my upper legs to reduce temptation. Don't wear shirts showing much cleavage and wear undershirts to cover cleavage if it shows. I feel uncomfortable being gawked at. If wear short dress wear leggings under it, so legs above knee are concealed. But I usually wear knee length. I do wear skinny jeans at times but not all the time, and pair it with modest tops or long sweaters. I do not wear sleeveless shirts or tank tops outdoors. I wear 3/4 length sleeves or 2-3 inches above elbow at most. But not regular sleeves in public. At home I do. I do not wear short shirts. Will wear a tank top to make it longer if needed.
My church sings holiness unto the Lord but women come to church dressed in tight fitting dresses, jeans with low cut tops and they find nothing wrong with that. Guess they don't feel convicted in their hearts
I agree.My wife nurses our son publicly, with maternity clothing and a nursing cover.You can't see anything,you know what she's doing,but she's not exposed.Modesty is a big issue these days. I'm not Catholic but am SOOO impressed by her apostolate and the material I got so far! I'm still waiting for her book "Immodesty, Satan's Virtue" though, which is backordered.
Exposed ankles, arms not completely covered, & basketball shorts were once immodest. Prior to the 20th century women exposed their breasts to nurse their children and was considered modest.. Basketball shorts expose part of the thigh. Nowhere does the Bible say women should not swim. The definition of modesty in this video is so subjective, inconsistent, & is not found in the Bible. Modest has more to do with actions than clothing.

The Catholic catechism teaches 4th commandment means we are to love, respect and help our parents and obey them in all that is *moral.* if they tell you to steal, you don't obey that, rather you do what you can with love respect to help them do the right thing. Modesty is obedience to God's fifth commandment, to not commit adultery. Thank you for making this video. While packing for my family reunion I came across your video. As a result I will be wearing a two piece swimsuit. This two piece covers my neck, arms, and legs. As a woman and a married woman I totally understand what these guyz are talking about. Please don't be ignorant and careless in the way you dress. It's not there problem. It's your problem actually. You are putting guyz in a situation where they can sin even if in their mind to sin against God. You are sinning against God by doing that. Their is not oppression here. When I was 19 years old I attended a Tridentine convent school and the nuns always taught modest dress from day 1, as did the priests, and they do this to this day. In saying that I was 19 at the time (back in the early 80s) and I found it so hard to dress modest because I was embarrassed to wear the longer dresses (though I've always hated any of my cleavage or bare legs to show during life) because I was afraid of what others thought. That's not the exact case anymore and hasn't been for quite awhile. This video is you did is well done with the different age groups and both male and female. A lot of good messages here.
I agree I’m born again Christian male and I think that us boys and men lusting after women and it happend to me and I’m guilty of this and churches need to talk about this as Christian men and women and is a stub line block and as a Christian male I’m guilty of adutry and think we need to be honest we need to be real and share this and talk these problems with Christian women and Christian male this is a problem. I really don't care to see your bare naked legs everyday of my life. It's really scandalous and it saddens me that they hold themselves to such low standards. When it comes to going to the beach or the pool, I find that is the hardest place to go to and be modest. I NEVER liked bikinis and have never worn one. My parents have always taught me to be modest, but I never realized how much deeper it goes. After the full extent of modesty was presented to me, I realized all the supposedly "modest" bathing suits there are were now considered immodest. How can I go to the beach or pool with my family and friends, and still be modest? Reasonably, but modest. Because I don't think wearing a long maxi skirt would be good while swimming. I honestly want to know what is necessary in such cases.
Olive Branch I'd suggest once pied suits or tankinis are pretty modest. You can wear a swim shirt and swim shorts too if you'd like. I think as long as nothing is hanging out a one piece or tankini is modest.
Olive Branch surfers, divers and people who are trying to avoid sunburns wear brightly colored, long sleeved shirts called "rash guards." Some have pretty designs or patterns for women's line. Lands End and surf and swim outlets sell them for men and women, along with swim shorts and skorts. They are made of the same material as swimsuits, so they are light and dry quickly, but with the added bonus of not becoming transparent when wet and with a healthy SPF factor to prevent sun damage to the skin. I had the misfortune of growing up at a time when only bikinis were offered, even for little girls, and there was no such thing as SPF sunscreen. The sunburns were horrific. Took the joy right out of a day at the beach or pool. I am so grateful these fabrics and clothes exist. hope that helps!

They are actually below the knee, covers the shoulders and super cute. Hello to all my friends who are complaining in the comments that men need to dress modestly are upset that this video calls out ladies more than men. I hear ya as a young women who is wants to have a pure heart, mind, and body. Guys MUST dress modestly. HOWEVER, women do have a weee bit more of a responsibility when it comes to modesty because of how God has made men and women. God made men to look for a mate and women to attract a mate. Hence, God made women beautiful and attractive. Our minds are "wired" differently. Guys have more of a tendency to impure thoughts and are naturally sexually aroused (when we reveal things that should be covered) and we have more of a tendency to dress immodestly to attract attention. (Ladies we all know we love attention.) The higher women hold the bar, the higher men will jump!! Both the styles for men and women are declining... But, that is all the more reason to witness! The darker it is, the more brilliantly the light will shine. Let us both men and women alike imitate the purity of Mary!!! P.S. Let us young ladies not only dress modestly to avoid causing mortal sin but also to reveal that our bodies are sacred and are temples of the Most Holy Trinity and of life. (the Church always veils the sacred) We are God's creation and meant to be beautiful... Let us look to Mary is most beautiful, humble and pure! And, in doing so inspire men to be like St. Joseph, a protector not a predator.

Isaac Alsop men need to dress modestly too...see some of the comments women have made. There used to be laws forbidding *men* from appearing in public without a shirt on. But the 60s destroyed everything good in this country. Anyway, it was a good law and a fair one. if women shouldn't be topless neither should men! :-) Also the clothes were very classy and neat back in the day!

I was out with some friends at a Renaissance Fair and there were women dressed with very tight low cut outfits. One of my friend's young sons that was with us noted the way they dressed to her mom saying "they are so immodest." His mom without skipping a beat told her son. "They don't know their own dignity so it will befall on you to guard their modesty by turning away.". I just thought that was a beautiful thing to say to her son.
"Throw [immodest clothing] in the trash. Don't give it away, because you'll just be spreading it. Don't even sell it. You'll get more treasure in heaven than we can get on ebay." YES!!!!
Amen to this. It took a lot of grace from God to finally shred all my lululemon leggings and toss them out.
We also need to revive true manhood and fatherhood. There is a clear correlation between immodesty and the lack of a father in a girl's life.

The lack of a quality role model from a father plays a significant part in how a young woman portrays her image of worth, also the same for young men. Check out some of the statistics found on the Focus on the Family website. You will have to do a little digging, but it is such an important aspect to be aware of. Especially if one is in the midst of courtship and a family is in mind. Of course all humans, male or female will ultimately make their own decisions and are responsible for them. My sister is a criminal psychologist that has won many awards for introducing programs to the state that has lowered the percentage of prisoners that return to prison. One of the major identifying issues is almost always hands down the lack of a father role model or a horrible role model of a father, in men and women, though a contributing factor to immodesty, it is such a small outward evidence to the inward workings of ones heart.

Great video. As a Muslim woman who has spent a lot of time around Christians, I never saw this topic addressed within the Christian community. I'm happy that this has been addressed and has almost 100k views. Unfortunately the fashion industry is reaching out to many more people than that, and the major decision makers on what is stylish is often decided upon by men, as they lead the industry. I am stunned at how women are dressing to prom and for their sweet 16's these days compared to when I was that age. This is so troubling and should make all faiths work together to reestablish modesty in our society. The popular way of thinking is that less clothing is progressive and women have the right to bare it all and be naked. All praise be to God!

I'm very happy to say that I now dress modestly with long skirts and non-revealing tops. It's not too hard to find longer skirts as it is to find modest nice tops. I've been dressing in longs skirts and modest tops for the past couple of months and love it! It's not always easy but it's a necessary to do. It feels amazing to dress in non-revealing clothes and I know I'm pleasing our Lord and the Blessed Mother Mary.

I doubt you have thought this through, because most likely you are a product of your up bringing... everywhere you look... women are objectified... all the clothes that are sold are "Sexy". Every song you listen to is about sex. Your body isn't an object it is holy, it is beautiful, and the church encourages modesty to guard and protect the dignity of your body. You too teach men to respect women by the way you dress and act. Show men you are more than T&A and that you are holy. Be Holy!

I'm finding in my own experience that men are NOT being modest either. STOP wearing skinny jeans because I can see your junk and so can other women too. Women are just trying to be "modest" by not mentioning it nor admitting that we ARE looking so that we can deal with the conviction of noticing your private in private.

I love this video! I always try my best to dress modestly, its hard in my school. The girls go around with their short shirts and short tops. When I go swimming I wear a swimsuit that is shorts and a type of tee shirt thats a swim suit (Its really cute, its pink with flowers LOVE IIT) And yah, I get made fun of..mostly by girls in string bikinis :P I always wanna tell a girl that dresses modestly that they look pretty, cause they do! :D Girls, dress modestly all the time!

Standards are great! The Church is a loving mother and her advice is vital for our salvation and society. However, there is a shortage of Catholics putting out modest clothing lines and styles. I've actually told my daughter to give a try at styling and if she likes it, perhaps she'd consider starting her own clothing line for women's fashions with modesty and dignity in mind.

It's true that we/some girls don't get an explanation of how guys /men looks at us in general.
I don't think that girls know that there is a different between what they see and what guys see.
Most of the time when a girl is in a clothing store and she is about to try on some clothes, the only clothing items she will pick up is what's in trend.
The thing with the clothing industry is that most of the time there are men who makes, designe and styles the woman clothing. That makes it even harder to find something that is modest and your style.

I've been asking God for guidance on my clothing and I've decided I have to start wearing skirts. I just have to buy some now. Hahah I already wear decent necklines. But I wear skinny jeans and shorts (sometimes) but I see now..... The only attention I want from guys is from good Catholic Godly guys.
Of course they are not solely evoked by a women's dress, but if you are dressed modestly then you have done your part and have no culpability. But it can't be denied that men can be sexually aroused for no good reason, but are with good reason sexually aroused by the private parts of women. Women struggle with sin generally speaking is the attention and power they seek over men through the instrumentality of there body and seduction. Men's battle is viewing womens beauty in the light of truth rather then solely as an object of pleasure and use.
for those women who spit at men to "take custody of their eyes", they ought to remember no human being can "unsee" what they have seen. If a man flashed her or left a copy of a porn magazine open in a public place, would she appreciate that man telling HER to "take custody of her eyes"? I consider myself a modest dresser. I do not wear short shorts in public. I do not wear any shorts in public unless at a beach to cover bathing suit. Do not wear bathing suit without a shirt covering it. I do not shave my upper legs to reduce temptation. Don't wear shirts showing much cleavage and wear undershirts to cover cleavage if it shows. I feel uncomfortable being gawked at. If wear short dress wear leggings under it, so legs above knee are concealed. But I usually wear knee length. I do wear skinny jeans at times but not all the time, and pair it with modest tops or long sweaters. I do not wear sleeveless shirts or tank tops outdoors. I wear 3/4 length sleeves or 2-3 inches above elbow at most. But not regular sleeves in public. At home I do. I do not wear short shirts. Will wear a tank top to make it longer if needed.

I agree.My wife nurses our son publicly, with maternity clothing and a nursing cover.You can't see anything,you know what she's doing,but she's not exposed.Modesty is a big issue these days. I'm glad that someone is talking about it.I feel out of place trying to tell other girls how to dress.My wife tries to, but many call us legalistsWe didn't say wearing pants/low cut top will send people to hell, only that it grieves the Holy Spirit. Exposed ankles, arms not completely covered, & basketball shorts were once immodest. Prior to the 20th century women exposed their breasts to nurse their children and was considered modest.. Basketball shorts expose part of the thigh. Nowhere does the Bible say women should not swim. The definition of modesty in this video is so subjective, inconsistent, & is not found in the Bible. Modest has more to do with actions than clothing.
Wilbur Wallis what's not mentioned is how of course modesty is dependent on context. Even the most modest swimsuit you would never wear to church.
These videos should be shown in all Catholic schools as they are taught nothing and haven't got a clue!

The Catholic catechism teaches 4th commandment means we are to love, respect and help our parents and obey them in all that is *moral.* if they tell you to steal, you don't obey that, rather you do what you can with love respect to help them do the right thing. Modesty is obedience to God's fifth commandment, to not commit adultery. Catholicism teaches we must not help others to sin, and Jesus said "Amen, I say to you, if a man looks with lust at a woman, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart." keep praying and seeking the Truth! love to you and your family...

I am 52 so you can teach us new tricks lol. Not sure what people will say at the pool but, I ask God for the courage to wear it. At least I know God will be pleased.

As a woman and a married woman I totally understand what these guyz are talking about. Please don't be ignorant and careless in the way you dress. It's not there problem. It's your problem actually. You are putting guyz in a situation where they can sin even if in their mind to sin against God. You are sinning against God by doing that. Their is not oppression here. To dress decent is not is not to oppress yourself. You can still dress nice and be cool and have style and dress modestly.

When I was 19 years old I attended a Tridentine convent school and the nuns always taught modest dress from day 1, as did the priests, and they do this to this day. In saying that I was 19 at the time (back in the early 80s) and I found it so hard to dress modest because I was embarrassed to wear the longer dresses (though I've always hated any of my cleavage or bare legs to show during life) because I was afraid of what others thought. That's not the exact case anymore and hasn't been for quite awhile. This video is you did is well done with the different age groups and both male and female. A lot of good messages here.
I agree I’m born again Christian male and I think that us boys and men lusting after women and it happend to me and I’m guilty of this and churches need to talk about this as Christian men and women and is a stub line block and as a Christian male I’m guilty of adutry and think we need to be honest we need to be real and share this and talk these problems with Christian women and Christian male this is a problem. Churches need to have a free code and spend time in the word and talk about it and sometimes we are afraid to talk about it

When it comes to going to the beach or the pool, I find that is the hardest place to go to and be modest. I NEVER liked bikinis and have never worn one. My parents have always taught me to be modest, but I never realized how much deeper it goes. After the full extent of modesty was presented to me, I realized all the supposedly "modest" bathing suits there are were now considered immodest. How can I go to the beach or pool with my family and friends, and still be modest? Reasonably, but modest. Because I don't think wearing a long maxi skirt would be good while swimming. I honestly want to know what is necessary in such cases.
Olive Branch I'd suggest once pied suits or tankinis are pretty modest. You can wear a swim shirt and swim shorts too if you'd like. I think as long as nothing is hanging out a one piece or tankini is modest.
If you're in the Seventh Day Adventist Church you're not allowed to go to
the beach, or go swimming, as far as I know, for reasons of modesty.
Olive Branch surfers, divers and people who are trying to avoid sunburns wear brightly colored, long sleeved shirts called "rash guards." Some have pretty designs or patterns for women's line. Lands End and surf and swim outlets sell them for men and women, along with swim shorts and skorts. They are made of the same material as swimsuits, so they are light and dry quickly, but with the added bonus of not becoming transparent when wet and with a healthy SPF factor to prevent sun damage to the skin. I had the misfortune of growing up at a time when only bikinis were offered, even for little girls, and there was no such thing as SPF sunscreen. The sunburns were horrific. Took the joy right out of a day at the beach or pool. I am so grateful these fabrics and clothes exist. hope that helps!

They are actually below the knee, covers the shoulders and super cute. Hello to all my friends who are complaining in the comments that men need to dress modestly are upset that this video calls out ladies more than men. I hear ya as a young women who is wants to have a pure heart, mind, and body. Guys MUST dress modestly. HOWEVER, women do have a weee bit more of a responsibility when it comes to modesty because of how God has made men and women. God made men to look for a mate and women to attract a mate. Hence, God made women beautiful and attractive. Our minds are "wired" differently. Guys have more of a tendency to impure thoughts and are naturally sexually aroused (when we reveal things that should be covered) and we have more of a tendency to dress immodestly to attract attention. (Ladies we all know we love attention.)
The higher women hold the bar, the higher men will jump!! Both the styles for men and women are declining... But, that is all the more reason to witness! The darker it is, the more brilliantly the light will shine. Let us both men and women alike imitate the purity of Mary!!!
P.S. Let us young ladies not only dress modestly to avoid causing mortal sin but also to reveal that our bodies are sacred and are temples of the Most Holy Trinity and of life. (the Church always veils the sacred) We are God's creation and meant to be beautiful... Let us look to Mary is most beautiful, humble and pure! And, in doing so inspire men to be like St. Joseph, a protector not a predator.

Isaac Alsop men need to dress modestly too...see some of the comments women have made. There used to be laws forbidding *men* from appearing in public without a shirt on. But the 60s destroyed everything good in this country. Anyway, it was a good law and a fair one. if women shouldn't be topless neither should men! :-) Also the clothes were very classy and neat back in the day!
