Having worked in beaver dam removal professionally i have to say: Hey, that's my job! But thanks, we can't be everywhere at once and it costs a lot to ask for a company to do this. Just one bit of information you got wrong i would like to clarify for your own safety: 1. Don't swim in a beaver pond, ever, if you can avoid it. It is contaminated with faeces and you can easily catch Giardia duodenalis, a parasitic infection of the guts that can wreck your life for weeks if you're not lucky. 2. Beaver dams do get stronger with time, but only when they are very fresh and the material is still settling. As soon as either, the dam finish settling or the beavers are no longer maintaining the dam, it is getting weaker all the time and will breach and fail in dangerous and hard to predict ways. It took me the better part of a year doing this as a full-time job before i knew enough about how they build their dams to be allowed to dismantle dams unsupervised and i got promoted to foreman the third year because i was cautious, patient and would rather it take one more day to empty a pond than to drop it and have a road or railway washed-out. 3. Please wear gloves, even cheap-leather ones, your hands are worth more than that and these dams can be full of pointy sticks and thorny plants. 4. Cleats do not increase your grip on metal pipes, you should only go in with your boots/ hip waders, the rubber soles have much more adhesion than cleats. As for the attack on a beaver dam, the way i do it is in a few steps: 1. Examine the dam, walk along the back (if possible) or top (again if possible) and find the actual riverbed where the flow of water should be. This is where you should end up breaching. 2. Examine some more, try to find previous breaches that the beavers patched back up, or weaknesses, sometimes there are big empty spaces in the base of dams where there is little wood holding the back. These are all weak points that must be considered and can be either danger or safe points to lower the water. 3. If it is a big dam (5-10ft, 1-2m, high) or the culvert downstream (that you are trying to have not wash-out in the first place) is small, do a safety breach, in a place where the dam is either very strong and thick or along the extremities. Then use this outlet to lower the water level and use traps (if your work is to get rid of the huge pond endangering a railroad, the beavers must go or you won't do anything they can't fix in a matter of days). 4. Once the level of the water is lowered, there is less pressure on the main structure and the dam will settle a little. That is when you do the main breach, slowly lowering the dam's height at the natural riverbed until the dam is drained. 5. Do follow-ups every now and then or an helicopter survey of the whole watershed every year or so. Culverts are another thing entirely. As a large claustrophobic man, i tend to steer clear of them unless i can stand in them, the others are up to the guy that insisted we call him "The rat" as he is kind of tiny and will go into 3 feet/1 meter pipes, crazy fellow but gets the job done and fast! But he say you've got to start with the backing wood and then remove the mud and branches as you lower the backing wood. Edited: Grammar

An interesting fact about beavers is they hate the sound of running water. When they hear it they instinctively try to stop it. If you put a speaker playing the sound of running water near a beaver lodge, they will cover the speaker to try to stop the sound. If the speaker is louder than any other source of sound from running water, they will ignore the actual running water and focus entirely on the speaker to try to stop the sound.

@@mitchc552 Naw, that wasn't what I was thinking of it for. The mattock would be exclusively for busting dams. Cleaning drains and small culverts totally demands a lighter tool like the rake.
@@DinnerForkTongue It would be much easier to remove damms, however it would be very easy to remove too much and then you’d be holding a heavy sharp object when the water pushes you over.
@Will Survive you might be surprised what can be done with a grinder and a little know how! Plus the most precise CNC machines are actually grinders vs mills routers or lathes!

Just a thought on the rake, if you have your welder reinforce the corners with gussets, that should put some strength in there. It will become heavier of course, but it should toughen it up a bunch.
Quite possibly your 2nd best video given the size of the beaver dam...although we would rather have seen the start of the breakdown inside instead of being on the outside watching the flow! Thanks!
Damn I never knew that beavers could build something that big so quickly mine you I have never seen a beaver in real life either🦫, let alone an otter🦦 so doing this type of job is a great help out to everybody using that road, just make sure to stay safe especially since you are doing this alone. Great video 🙂👍
Your right about not pulling debris from The bottom because what if you went and pulled a log at the bottom and then the whole dam just blasted through from the pressure and weight of water behind. Probably wouldn't have happened because it would have already happened and you would have to be super strong to do that. Love your videos and keep finding cool culverts
Extraordinary work !! I'm sorry for the breakage of your rake, it's a shame that I couldn't understand you since the Spanish translation was not enabled ...
Those are some huge culverts or as you said big old used to be fuel tanks. If that whole clog had started to move I doubt you be hurt just get pushed out the end.But there are holes there and the clog could I guess fall on you trapping you.Its good to be safe allways. Enjoyed the show.
When you get a new rake I recommend Fiskars all their handtools have a lifetime warranty and they stand behind it even if you purposely break your tool the way I’ve heard it explained is if you drive over there shovel with a skid loader and it breaks they’ll replace it no questions asked and if the dealer doesn’t support it email them dealer and gets some heat
As I was watching this, I was thinking it might be a good idea to get some magnetic mounts for the camera. In times where the culvert is plastic, you might want to have mounts for putting it on the upper edge of the outside of the pipe pointing inward and down at you (like a claw or gripping mount). In this way, you'd have less worries about hitting the camera or it holding back debri.
Раньше, когда я был маленький, я проходил мимо лужи и пробивал ногой путь. Никогда бы не подумал что буду смотреть этот канал. Респект парню, хорошую работу делает.
Remember, even if you are in a smooth culvert, if the dam was to let loose all at once, the dam material could still potentially hit you from behind as you are sliding down the culvert pipe and knock you unconscious then you would drown. That can't really happen as long as you release the dam from the top down like you did.
What is the dimension of these beaver dams! I am amazed at how complex they are. It was like a wall! I am glad you are careful and care about the environment and the beavers that are always doing their thing!
I like how you always make sure the outside of your car is always completely out of frame haha. It must be a pain to drive it a bit past where you wanna film
Why is it every time I watch you I think “wear gloves...for Pete’s sake man...wear gloves”. Don’t hurt those hands. Seeing the rake suffer was more than I can take 😂😂😂😂😂
You should get a list of contact info for these companies and contact them when you spot issues. You can then propose to fix it on the spot for a fee or they'd have to spend 3x the resources tracking down the issue and get someone down there.
The beavers will come back tonight and the head beaver will look into the camera with a face of anger like Captain Kirk but instead of yelling Kahnnnn!!! He will be yelling Post Tennnnnnn!!!
I know you are super experienced, but maybe an inflatable vest added to your working uniform? Just to be safe! That water was powerful, concentrated through the pipe! ♥️

I dare not think about it too much, but if Jeff Bezos & Elon Musk can build vehicles that take them into space, maybe Rake can be repaired & live again..... 😉😁

Naw, that wasn't what I was thinking of it for.
I'm surprised you don't have a job doing this, you clearly have a passion for fixing problems.
Rip trusty rake, we had fun while it lasted. Nice demolishing the beaver dam.
Gloves and impact-resistant eye protection, man! Safety first. Always. Love your videos, sir. Thank you!
RIP Rake
I wanna see this rake be succeeded in dam-busting duty by an equally trusty mattock!
@Will Survive so you'd make a 1000+ dollar rake when you could do the same thing with a grinder and welder for about 50 bucks. LoL
@Will Survive you might be surprised what can be done with a grinder and a little know how! Plus the most precise CNC machines are actually grinders vs mills routers or lathes!
@Will Survive well said!
@Will Survive I managed a 25,000 square foot cnc mfg shop for about 10 years.
I've been watching your videos for years. Have you considered going into Civil Engineering or a related profession? This seems to be your natural calling and passion.
RIP trusty rake.
If he had a PO box, I'm sure lots of fans would send him a new rake. He'd be foreseen for life. Lol.
He has a donation page. You can find it on his "about" page. You can contribute to getting him a new rake if you really want to
Hell, he would have a rake collection! Brilliant!
Beaver Corp. of Engineers Crew Master: "Okay boys, we had a lowering of the pool yesterday. During swim class, the almost yearling kits saw a human messi-... (chattering from the group) I know, I know, hold it down. The male was messing with the dam. Chopper took a look and it's nothing major. A couple, three hours work and we'll have this back up to level. We want quality work here so Puzzler takes the lead. Let's get to work."
@x x Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. No, I've written only one horror story for my BF's son years ago but didn't publish because, for reasons of my own, I don't participate in social media platforms, a critical thing for authors now. I've written extensively in two game threads though. One a fantasy with other gamers and one in a building game by myself. I started a book but got stuck and haven't touched it in a while.
@@mala3isity Writing is cool. If you enjoy it, more power to you.
@@humzamirza1817 Thanks. :) My stories in the threads were about my imagined for them lives of the characters around me. Because I was playing, it felt real. You know the axiom "write what you know." The urge to write comes and goes now but I only write when it's fun.
That is funny 😄
Beavers be like ,,,,,, oh shoot it’s Post10 and his rake , we’re doomed 😂🇬🇧🇬🇧😂 top job man 👍🏻
Never comment before end of video , Poor Rake 😂😂thou be careful in tunnel if collapse and all that debris traps ya it will be beavers revenge 🇬🇧
Beavers sent a clear message. Mess with our dam, we mess your rake
Or maybe beavers be like: see that ribbon? Must mean that's the next tree we should take!
You are so knowledgeable with these sorts of issues, very impressive 👍🙂
really appreciate your videos. I find watching anything become more efficient very therapeutic. keep up the good work.
Oh no! RIP rake! I still enjoyed watching you unclog these culverts though, I liked the 10x speed watching the sticks flow out 😊
Oh NOOO, your trusty rake has broken I know the feeling I'm on my 7th litter-pick stick after over 8 years of litter-picking I love your videos keep up the good work
Love you're getting your rake re-welded so much better than throwing it out I love to make do and mend it's what we used to do and need to keep doing.
This is a good man to labour away at these blockages. He is the salt of the earth type. I respect him, without knowing him. I salute you, sir.
In three years, that rake has done more for this country than most Americans have in their lifetime
Wasn't there a famous JFK speach along those lines? "Ask not what your country can do for your rake..."
@@roberthindle5146 i love that 😂
Truest statement I've ever read.
@@joeschmoe8504 you're no fun, go away.
This man needs a merch line.
Beavers, rakes, culverts. So much to work with.
Great video. Love how the risk of the camera getting swept away made you get creative with the angles.
Another great video Post!👍👍
I missed you, babe. you don't comment like you used to on every post10 video. hope everything is going well for you
I didn't realise how big those culverts were until you walked standing upright into one of them. 🤔🤔😨😨🇬🇧
Just a thought on the rake, if you have your welder reinforce the corners with gussets, that should put some strength in there. It will become heavier of course, but it should toughen it up a bunch.
this just reminded me of the scene from El Camino lol
Watching this guy overcomplicate the pulling of branches to clear a water blockage is beyond interesting to me... I love it!
R.I.P. trusty rake! I hope you'll find a worth successor. Love your Content!
Great job i wonder if the beavers have a price on your head? Thanks for sharing. Chris from England.
RIP Mr Rake. Thank you for your years of service.
20 beavers are angry about their friends' damn. But they are also celebrating the end of The Rake. R.I.P Rake. You served us well
Revenge is a dish best served wet 🦫
Very glad to hear you'll be getting Rake repaired. Thanks for another interesting - and dramatic - video.
Extraordinary work !! I'm sorry for the breakage of your rake, it's a shame that I couldn't understand you since the Spanish translation was not enabled ...
I really didn't realize how massive those culverts were until you walked in front of the camera and gave us some perspective! Holy shit!
catching up on all my comments wow this is like the twelfth one from you in the past Daya
@@post.10 haha, no regrets! I was getting caught up on your videos. Thanks for the great content!
it’s a special day when he uploads floods
edit: it’s special when he breaks a beaver dam
2nd edit rip rake 😔
Did anyone else see the creepy 'skull' image at around 9 mins 40 secs? Excellent video, my friend... as always!
Love it so excited over a flooded road. Is it plugged? well I for am hoping so. Love your work thank you again.
Fiskars actually should sponsor him---Great publicity!!!
No clue why these vids are so satisfying to watch... but they are. Thank you : )
As I was watching this, I was thinking it might be a good idea to get some magnetic mounts for the camera.
Точно
Remember, even if you are in a smooth culvert, if the dam was to let loose all at once, the dam material could still potentially hit you from behind as you are sliding down the culvert pipe and knock you unconscious then you would drown. That can't really happen as long as you release the dam from the top down like you did.
What a legend he goes around fixing other people's problems before they even notice it
Sounds like he works for the government that inspects the logging contracts
you should be able to rig up a camera mount with a decent magnet on one end that would stick to the roof of a cast iron culvert.
That was actually part of my thought.
Great idea
What is the dimension of these beaver dams! I am amazed at how complex they are. It was like a wall! I am glad you are careful and care about the environment and the beavers that are always doing their thing!
I poured one out for ol' trusty Rake tonight. You'll be missed, friend.
Hello! I am glad you know to keep your balance and to stay (relatively) safe doing that work.
Wish you got some kind of recognition from your city/town. Been watching you unclog for a couple years now. Keep up the good woor
That rake sure lived its life to the fullest.
RIP trusty rake.
I come here for the videos & stay for the fan comments-exceptional quality, one & all!! Rock on, @post 10 & @ghost 10!!✊🏼🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
