I moved a 130 year old farm house 30 years ago. Moved it directly across the street from where it was located, about a half a block move as it was located in a 14 acre field. House is single story, 30 feet wide and 40 feet long. House cost $1000, and the move was $2000. To fix it up cost $80,000.
One problem with this idea is that while sometimes you can pick up a beautiful home this way, it often costs more to move and renovate such a house than it would to simply buy a similar home already fixed up that does not need to be moved. A lot of these old homes are in locations that are not exactly magnet neighborhoods. This means that to have such a house and live in a nicer neighborhood one would have to transport the house a fairly long distance. The cost varies but a typical cost for moving a house a few miles is around $50,000. Factors that can change that would be the distance it needs to be moved and the size of the house and the complexity of the relocation. You can often move a house a fairly long distance in a rural area at a cost less than gong just a few blocks in an urban area. A taller home would necessitate the temporary moving of power lines etc. Besides the cost of actually moving the house there is the advanced prep before a house can be moved. Every pipe and wire has to be cut. Fireplaces are built into chimneys and chimneys have to be cut from below and then supported for the trip and that includes expensive stabilization. If a house has half a dozen fire places that can add up fast. Once the house is on jacks and separated from the foundation it then must be transferred onto the back of a special truck bed. An over size house often has to be cut in half so it can be placed on two truck beds. This would be the case for narrow streets. But before you can do any of that you have to have a foundation already poured and prepared to receive the house and you need all the appropriate permits. And all of that adds to the cost of moving. So lets say you buy some land. Lets say it costs you $25k then you pay to have utilities put in. That can be another $50k Then build a foundation and lets say that's another $50k. Now hire a crew to prep the house on the old house lot and that can be $25k. Lets say the move itself is $50k so that can total $200 and you don't even have it renovated yet. Now lets say you are like me and want to restore the house as much as possible to it's 150 year old charm. If the house is largely intact, that is to say, it has never been desecrated by modernization, it will still cost you thousands to get it up to code, thousands more to restore it and thousands more to make the kitchen and bathrooms functional. I would go all out so I would want period stove and fridge. An antique stove and lets say a couple of ice boxes restored and converted into freeer/refrigerator those alone can cost you over $20k. Even if you do a lot of the work yourself it can cost another $100k-$200k to make it into your home. In my old neighborhood I can buy a 150 year old house already restored to this extent for $200k ready to move in. So Bottom line is you really have to fall in love with that specific home to make it worth while sometimes. Now if you don't have to move it then that can really be worth while buying an antique fixer upper or if you don't have to travel far and you have a lot already with the utilities already in and it's not far from the house you are acquiring, it can be worth while. But keep in mind, there is usually a reason these houses are free. Someone has already crunched the numbers and in most cases found it isn't worth the effort. It all comes done to finding someone who really loves old houses so much that they don't care about the expense. I like all of them but the are all way too far away from where I would want to live. I grew up in a house that had been in my family for centuries. Built in 1695 it wasn't even the oldest house in the town. It was the second oldest. The oldest house had been lived in by the family who build it since 1688. When I was a kid the farm the house was on was sold to develop into a 300 unit condo complex. The town historical society tried everything to save it. The new owner was only interested in making money and saw the house as a pile of junk interfering with his operation. After some negotiating the new owner finally agreed to let the house remain intact if someone would agree to come and get it and move it onto their own lot. The town only required that it remain some place within the town. The new owner agreed to let it remain intact for one year. They did not find a single interested party. So the new owner let the historical society come and strip the house of anything they wanted for their museum. They tried to save as much as they could. Then the bulldozers came. It took 20 minutes to turn a 285 year old historic home, the oldest in the town, into a pile of rubble and another day to turn it into three dumpsters full of rubble. That was the day our house became the oldest house in that town. The next month the historical society came by with out new plaque that reflected our new status. So the condos went in, all 300. The selectmen enjoyed their complimentary trips to Europe, Disneyland and Hawaii and their new luxury cars and swimming pools. Hundreds of new residents moved into those condos, mostly from out of town. Then two years after the last condo was sold, the whole thing went up in flames. There wasn't enough water and every last unit burnt to the ground. No one was seriously hurt. By 1980 most people had forgotten that there was ever an old house or a 300 unit condo complex. Today there's a Walmart and several big box stores, a McDonald's, KFC and Burger King there but before that a mall went up in the 1980's and then was torn down about 8 years ago when it was unable to survive after the financial crisis. None of the selectmen that had been bribed to let the three hundred condos go in and not protect the symbol that was incorporated into our seal in 1787 had lived in the town prior to the 1960's and none remained past the 1990's. They had no sense of history or continuity. The developer died around 30 years ago penniless after having been sued by most of the condo owners. I heard he fled to Florida and lived as a homeless person before he died but that might have been a wishful thinking rumor.
My mother's historic home, three story, 20+ rooms was moved successfully for less than you'd believe. Don't let people saying it would be too expensive to sway you if you haven't checked.
ThoreausRegret70 Please tell me about it, I'm thinking of the one in Indy. Haven't got the $$$, but that could happen if it is ment to be, truly. John, 317-681-3650, please text email your story.
I love every one of these houses. Quality, beauty, and uniqueness!!! When I have Bill Gate's money, or even a little less, I will save every one. I grew up in a house that was built circa 1859 to 1864. Dreamt of that house just last night. The house that I grew up in is part of my soul.
I have been involved in moving a two story 13 room house. By the time it was lifted, moved 5 miles down a country road (no power or phone lines involved) plus new foundation, not to mention sewer ect. They could have rebuilt the same house for just a few hundred less then the cost to move the thing. And dont even ask what the temporary insurance cost was to cover the house while it was being moved. Fyi
Seeing that it's free and to move it? How in the hell can you move a house that big? I know some move smaller houses etc and so on. But these houses are huge, can you imagine how much it would cost to move it?!!! Wow!
The problem with moving a house is that it will cause cracks to form in the foundation, walls and ceilings. Why would a person want an added expense such as that? And OMG, the expense to move it is astronomical to say the least.
Only if you are rubbish at moving houses. The whole point is to do it right so none of those things happen. My father is retired now, he moved so many houses starting with ours 46 years ago. It was a two story 5 bedroom and took up both sides of the road.
Teresa Yeates Very impressive. Not so easy moving a 2 story. Looked into moving a historical home from a rural area to an better neighborhood a few miles away. Ultimately the numbers didn't work but it was worth considering.
this is not necessarily true my cousins moved their home and there was a large home moved down the road from my home. the biggest issue is you have to pay to have all the wires that go over roads disconnected and then reconnected etc, and in america, the roads are riddled now with wires that would be in the way
What a grand idea for some grand ladies that have shown us just how to age well. My oh my, you have my husband & I drooling & changing our mind about just where and how we will move. Thanks!!!
I just checked on the two houses in NC one website. you can't reach and the house in enfeild is $225,000.00 an has been relocated to another spot...I really wanted that home
I love your channel! I just stumbled across it when researching preserving old homes. We are in the process of buying an old house built in 1912. It is a 1350sqft 2 bedroom 1 bathroom home, with 12 foot ceilings!
I would love to find a house to rescue in Portland, Oregon! My husband and I have restored an old 1888 house before and are looking for a "new project". Thanks for the video!!!!!
Circa Houses my husband and I would love to have a home in north carolina could you help is find one that would be great we don't mind the work my husband is in construction thank you georgaranddebra26@yahoo.com
Debra Sears. Check with my home town in Wilkes County NC. The house I have in mind is in Wilkesboro, NC. Goodgle for town and county info. Hope you like what you find here.
This is so typical of the US, tear down the old and make a fake old house in place of it but with ten beds with baths an enormous kitchen they never seem to use and three garages ,,,,, oh and yes big walls for the flat screens in front of the football pitch size beds with dozens of scatter pillows next to the gigantic walk in dressing room ,,,, sad
The biggest problem with these houses is that you have to move the homes once you buy it. The cost to move houses is high and takes quite a bit of work to get them moved.
Your wish really should be that you wish more people had the money not the passion. The cost to move and restore an old house is more often that not prohibitive. There was a beautiful stone house in our area that would have cost a million dollars to move an put on a foundation. After the move there would have been restoration as well. Way more than the house would be worth in the end.
I purchased a farm house build in 1856. It had nothing really special to it to make it unique or fancy. I did a ton of work to it restoring it and modernizing it. I should have torn that one down really. You know that old saying "they don't build them like they used to" well in the case of that one it is a good thing!
My father use to move houses. Sherman Industries inc. William J Sherman moved the house from Willoughby Ohio to Bath Ohio. to Hale Farm years ago. It takes alot to move the home.
Hi Elizabeth. I just found this video. I see it was over a year ago, but are any of them still available? And about moving it..Will there be a chance of getting help moving it? We live in Southern California. Oh, the one in Indianapolis? I have a lot of family in New Albany, In. Is it still available?
I'd love to be able to take one of these on! Unfortunately being disabled and lack of money keeps me in "DreamLand"! I can't believe some of the comments posted, I guess the word "Free" brings in a lot of weirdos. lol. Thanks for the video, I really hope at least some were saved, way too much of our history just gets torn down or torn up. We really don't have a lot of history and should try to save what we do have. Thank you for trying. Good video but I wish there was more of it!
My dad bought the house we are living in now for 200 dollars, it costs us 1000 to move it about 5 miles. 6 room house built by my distant cousin actually.
These houses were never designed to up and move them. Old houses are very deep rooted into the ground! Moving an old home like these would literally fall apart! The expense for trying to move one of these houses would cost well over $100k
Okay. I have all the equipment to move anything up to the size of the Statue of liberty. However anything bigger than 3,500sq ft I have to get remaining equipment that resides in Montana. My smaller equipment is here in Louisiana with me.
A few years ago, I would have tackled a project like any of these! But health issues and an aging Mom has changed my ability to get into such a project. If I had won one of the recent BIG Lotteries, I would have grabbed up all five of them... and a few more besides. ( I understand Frank Lloyd Wright's famous waterfall house is in a similar status...bad need of repair and facing possible demolition... (sad) One BIG consideration for each of these houses will be if there is Available Property to move the house TO that is within reasonable distance of the current location!
I would love to have the house in Indy, IN. I just don't have the land. Would it cohost the the house is worth to move it? Where would you find houses for free to move?
The makers of this video also made a video about moving houses. ruclips.net/video/b0kqz2VJMUI/видео.html I found this link right here in these comments.
Hi my friends thank you so much for Sharing your beautiful Ideas and very nice colors and styles loved loved loved loved it and God bless you and your family my friends
You have to pay the electric company to disconnect and reconnect the electrical lines as it passes through, and it ties up traffic so I imagine you need a permit from the cities you are passing through, not to mention you have to pay for the police directing traffic.
uumm. if you were to get the house off the lot some how, how do you get it down the road safely? just wondering lol. unless!! u have to dismantal the whole thing and take piece by piece with u but that would be rediculouse right right lol. They are pretty tho😂😉😊
Jeremy l believe it involves a flatbed trailer, heavy duty equipment, jacks and cinder block to raise it to put it on the flatbed, semi truck to pull the trailer, wide load warning trucks, research into the route to make sure there are no low hanging spots ( like tr affic lights and bridges) , then plan it, get everything together on the same night and time, most towns will not let this be done during the day, so have a beer and keep fingers crossed. sounds like fun don't it 😦
HEY JEREMY, I assume you fell asleep when she explained that they also have a video on 'HOW TO MOVE A HOUSE', OR , MAYBE SHE WAITED TILL YOU WATCHED THE VIDEO, THEN WENT BACK AND EDITED THE VIDEO AND ADDED THAT PART JUST TO FUCK WITH YOU, AND JUST IN CASE THAT IS WHAT SHE DID, RUclips HAS THESE THINGS CALLED VIDEO'S THAT HAVE NUMEROUS VARYING LENGTH VIDEOS ABOUT EXACTLY THAT, OR , OR MAYBE YOU MIGHT TRY DOING SOMETHING REFERRED TO AS GOOGLING WHERE YOU GO TO THE GOOGLE SITE-AND ASK "HOW DO YOU MOVE A ENTIRE HOUSE TO ANOTHER SITE", BET YOU GET MORE THAN A FEW ANSWERS !
They have special beams they put under the house to hold the floor joist in place while the entire house is picked up and moved all in one piece down the road. No need for a flatbed truck. I would imagine that since most of these houses are two or three stories it would be a nightmare to move them since the power lines would have to be held up so the houses could pass under them.
Ten years ago, we were offered a beautiful home that was built by a Swedish farmer in 1901. We said yes. But unfortunately, we lived in Portland, Oregon. Good luck finding any land under $500,000!! So, it was heartbreakingly torn down, and the 150 old trees torn down. So sad...
In pa a few years ago I seen a listing for homes on one street they were all for 1 dollar but the inside was trashed and it had lot junk all over the floors I can't rember were they were it was many years go
I love old historical houses. They seem so solid with their bold trim and lovely stair cases...and if it had stained glass...i knew it was meant to be..i keep having a dream of me moving into old home with stained glass window and a friendly ghost. My dream is to buy one thats been restored. I love watching some of these shows that fix em up...but i dont have the eye, knowledge or funds for that.
if I can just be bless with a nice home for me to rent it would be so cool I'm a disabled woman just trying to pay someone rent to live my life with my family blessed are the ones that consider the poor
miguel amaya, I believe that home is still there, but I'm not sure. Guntersville is the next town over from where I live, and the area is just beautiful! 😊
How many replies have you had for moving houses???? I have moved a few when highways were going to be built. It was cheaper to move the houses than to build new ones. That was in the late 70's, but I still look at structures for the challenge to move them as a hobby. Since they are historic houses, they would be worth moving as long as someone ponies up the money to do it. My complaint with some movers is they hack and chop which is easy for them, but then major renovation to reassemble the house is needed. UGH!!! Good luck!!
That's so sad with homelessness we have in this country why can't the house be given to a homeless family. There giving them away cuz really who's going to pick up these huge mansions . Nobody that's why .
Moving a house, like the two really move in ready ones, with the great staircases, are difficult and extremely expensive to do, plus you need the agreement from the location you're moving it to, and the cost, after they put the house on the trailers, cost per mile to get it out of there. The expense would be the same for the cost of buying it and the land in the area. The land was purchased by someone and they want to demolish it, but that cost a bundle now too, then you have the carting away all the dibris, some carting companies won't move, due to what is in the walls at the time it was built, so they need special removing services. At that cost, it's almost like buying another house, and the taxes, depending on location, can be a killer too. So, they offer the house free, let you take on all the responsibility to raise, move it and re-locate it. I wish I could take one and move it to Montana, but that would cost more than I have. The locations they're already in are perfect, why not keep them and rent out, making some money. They already own the land, now keep the house, they're free right?
Free is subjective, as the cost of moving an entire house is astronomical. This is, perhaps, the main reason no takers are coming forward to claim the houses. If you research the costs and permits, the land costs involved in moving a house you will be far less surprised as to why no one is clammering to claim and move these "free" houses. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
wish there were more houses in Louisiana like those. I'm from new orleans and I love old style homes but can seem to find any near my area. my husband is retired veteran and they have so many rules of why they can't put veterans in old houses but rather they move in a better condition house. Any tips on how we may gather info on old style homes for veterans?
A person near where I live moved his historic home from one side of his property to the other because it was too close to the road. The move was somewhere between 50-100 feet. He had plenty of land so buying a place for it, or taking it out on the road, wasn't a problem. It was easily as large as some of the homes you feature here. I have no idea what it cost him to do this, but it had to have been steep. Whoever did the job was professional and pulled it off flawlessly. It was amazing to watch. Bottom Line: I cannot imagine what it would cost to move any of these "free" houses featured in your video although the idea does sound appealing.
So cool. Would love to know more about the process. We did a video on how to move a free/old houses since so many people asked. Check it out, maybe some more info for you here: ruclips.net/video/b0kqz2VJMUI/видео.html
Thanks for the reply and information. I did hear the person who moved the house near where I live puts a glass on the kitchen counter that he guarantees will still be standing when the move is complete!
Taylor In the early eighties the city of Duarte moved a historic home to a park. The community held several fund raisers because it was $10,000.00 per mile.
Please include the acreage with the description and price and whether ponds and/or streams are included on the land and if possible adjoining land is for sale. Much appreciated. Also, are there outbuildings, fences, and animal stalls. Thank you.
I would like to have a house in Maryland Restoring a Victorian abandoned house would be a wonderful idea. If you have one somewhere in Maryland please let me know. Historical houses are beautiful and structured better than the ones today. So many beautiful homes.
That's not the point! Bring one of these awesome, character-filled beauties back to life - THAT'S the point. You could ride a bicycle to work; say, commute 30 miles on two wheels one way; that'd be cheaper than driving; why don't you do that?!?
it does NOT cost more to move a house than it does to build a house. it costs approximately 5k-8k to move a traditional one-level rambler, or even a two-story 1,500-1,800 square foot home.

It's way cheaper to move a house. My parents were given an old farmhouse by an old lady who didn't want to see it demolished to make way for farming ground. To make it legal they also paid a dollar for it. The moving of it and the new foundation and the lot they put it on and some minor remodeling plus a new garage all cost way less than building a brand new house.
Does anyone know how the story of one or more of these houses ended? Were any of the houses moved? I would like to know of one of these beautiful houses is "saved"!!!
The last home is beautiful, however, to move it someone would have to tear down the chimneys. The chimney's can't be moved with the home because they're too heavy. Also, the expense to move all of these homes is enormous. Hope someone comes through to save these beauties.
That's interesting, there is a company called "International Chimney" who I believe specialize in moving very large, heavy, and otherwise hard-to-move structures like chimneys. Their website is definitely worth a look. I've long been interested in this sort of thing (moving big buildings) so think it's pretty awesome what they've been able to accomplish. I highly doubt they're the only type of business like this... there are probably others around as well doing similar things: internationalchimney.com/
I do not have the exact prices for moving a house.....but considering the fact that one gets these houses more or less for free ,it possibly is still a good deal if one payed around $ 50.000-80.000 for moving, re-erection and some renovation. And you have a decent house with character...
You are correct. One doesn't do this because they are looking for a bargain, one does it because they love old homes and want to live in one. That would be me. I would take any of these homes if they were near enough to me that the cost of moving wasn't overwhelming to my budget.
my house was built pre 1862 upkeep to keep original is a nightmare! if you were to try and move these houses the interior walls would shatter. Plaster is not like drywall. Lead and asbestos exposure would be a bigger concern for old homes always test first! thankfully mine was just lead exterior paint but all old homes, more than likely, have one or both of them. pre 1970
Wow, I am sure you are right. These things are delicate, we should do a follow up with this guy since that is a great question. He may have a answer... ruclips.net/video/b0kqz2VJMUI/видео.html
My husband of 31 yrs has had two spinal surgery's. We have lost everthing i can't. Find work and leaving him alo e is scary we live in a room in my aunts house and house's are being given away for free u say but the truth is people like us kill our selves to survive and u play games of take this house out of my way. Are kidding me while don't. Just be humanitarian. And give it to people that really have nothing. GB
Cynthia Reyes I totally relate to what you're saying. I had a spine surgery myself that failed so it's pain for life for me. And I live in literally the most expensive place in the country to live, the San Francisco Bay Area😬 But yes I think the City or at least the government should step up and pay the moving cost for some deserving hard-working honest people to have. They give housing to people on a silver platter who absolutely do not deserve it along with money for food medical and everything else. That shit pisses me off to no end!!! The more lazy people are the more they get it seems like 😡 Keep your head up Cynthia good things come to good people 👍
Hi Cynthia :) I"m sorry I just saw your reply now it just popped up on my phone but it looks like it was left two months ago. Anyway, for a two bedroom tiny apartment in an "undesired" part of town and neighborhood is between $2,500 and $3500. Some might be slightly lower and some might be slightly higher for example I know my neighbor is paying $3,600 a month plus we have to pay for utilities and parking is a freaking nightmare!!! A one bedroom shithole apartment in the same shithole neighborhood is around $2,300 a month and have to pay for utilities. Oh and I might add that my social security disability just got cut off because I didn't return some form within 10 days and I never even received this form, 100% honest. And then we have all the liars and fakers and fraud people that are doing nothing but abusing the system because they are lazy freeloaders it just makes me sick!!! So where are you guys from?
NorCal. I live in the East Bay Area San Francisco Bay area so now I know exactly what you're talking about it is too expensive to live here in California the cheapest rent I've found anywhere is $2,000 here and that's where I live right now. Ijs. Homes are expensive, gasoline is almost $4 a gallon here, good jobs are hard to come by. I'm blessed to have a job with UPS going on 19 years now... And I still can't afford to live on my own the rents are so stupid High here.
Pattycakes92510 Hiya miss cakes :) So rent is expensive in the East Bay also huh? I assumed it was cheaper over there on the east side of the Bay because it always used to be but I guess times have changed, well that sucks!! I'm looking to move from here but not too far away and I figured the east Bay was cheaper but now that you educated me on that I'm thinking about moving to Tahoe. My insurance company just offered me a 7 figure lump sum settlement which I don't really need but that's probably the only way I'll be able to buy a house because I sure as hell don't have $200,000 laying around for a down payment ya know what I mean. And you're right you are doing good with UPS, I have a few friends that work for them and it's a good gig. Well hang in there and if there's anything I can do to help your situation feel free to get ahold of me and I will do everything I can to help ok. Take care hun 😎
All sounds fine and dandy, but what are the frames like. Are the frames all dried out, full of termite damage, dry rot??? Maybe contact the people at the PBS program This Old House, maybe they have some interest in the ones on the east coast particularly the house in Mass. Before you get all hot to trot on one of these watch the movie The Money Pit.
These are all lovely! They still look like they could be lived in why in the world would they want to tear them down or get rid of them??? UGH people are crazy.
Line Danzer They can be. I grew up in one. You just had the fortunate luck of never having to go through such an ordeal. Be glad! Or stay scared.. Oops sorry... I mean stay the skeptic that you are.
I have looked into moving a couple of magnificent houses, but the moving costs were astronomical in the TN area. Makes me so sad. The Enfield house is the one I would want.
I hope that someone would save these American gems. why would someone destroy these beautiful historical homes.
One problem with this idea is that while sometimes you can pick up a beautiful home this way, it often costs more to move and renovate such a house than it would to simply buy a similar home already fixed up that does not need to be moved.
Can you magine the charities looking for a character home for refuge houses, therapy locations and group home situations for people with disabilities.
My mother's historic home, three story, 20+ rooms was moved successfully for less than you'd believe. Don't let people saying it would be too expensive to sway you if you haven't checked.
Would love to hear more, thanks for your comment.

Please tell me about it, I'm thinking of the one in Indy. Haven't got the $$$, but that could happen if it is ment to be, truly. John, 317-681-3650, please text email your story.
I wish ,I had the money for moving one of these beautiful homes . Love historic homes they have this feeling of a simpler times.
Fyi
any update? did any of these homes survive?
Seeing that it's free and to move it? How in the hell can you move a house that big? I know some move smaller houses etc and so on. But these houses are huge, can you imagine how much it would cost to move it?!!! Wow!
The problem with moving a house is that it will cause cracks to form in the foundation, walls and ceilings. Why would a person want an added expense such as that? And OMG, the expense to move it is astronomical to say the least.
It would have to be someone that cares more about saving the house than money.
There are much more people that care about saving a house than there is that have the money and care.
Thanks!!!
I dream of having the first house shown free on this video!! I have no money to move it or land to put it on...so I keep dreaming😥
Me too.
me too
Me too. It's perfect.
Me too! It's my dream house, but I live on the West coast. Sigh.
Congrats! Let us know how your progress unfolds :)
I would love to find a house to rescue in Portland, Oregon! My husband and I have restored an old 1888 house before and are looking for a "new project". Thanks for the video!!!!!
+Linnea Thomason Best of luck finding your next project! People like you make me so happy :-)
Debra Sears will good for you
Linnea Thomason
Hey, Brush Prairie, WA here. ☺
J.M. ZIMMERMAN ummm...
I wish more people had passion for preserving history 💞
I agree with you
Your wish really should be that you wish more people had the money not the passion. The cost to move and restore an old house is more often that not prohibitive. There was a beautiful stone house in our area that would have cost a million dollars to move an put on a foundation. After the move there would have been restoration as well. Way more than the house would be worth in the end.
I fully understand that...sadly as time passes these homes are destroyed along with a piece of history we will never get back.
I purchased a farm house build in 1856. It had nothing really special to it to make it unique or fancy. I did a ton of work to it restoring it and modernizing it. I should have torn that one down really. You know that old saying "they don't build them like they used to" well in the case of that one it is a good thing!
LOL....but you tried!!! Better than nothing dear ;) Some are held together with toothpicks and bugs holding hands...
THE HOUSES THAT IS IN NC SHE TALKED AND SHOWED IS FOR SALE FOR 400,000 ITS NOT EVER BEEN FREE
My father use to move houses. Sherman Industries inc. William J Sherman moved the house from Willoughby Ohio to Bath Ohio. to Hale Farm years ago. It takes alot to move the home.
Wow wow so gorgeous and beautiful home how we contact someone about the house
Hi Elizabeth. I just found this video. I see it was over a year ago, but are any of them still available? And about moving it..Will there be a chance of getting help moving it? We live in Southern California. Oh, the one in Indianapolis? I have a lot of family in New Albany, In. Is it still available?
does anybody got any idea how much it would cost to move one of those house🤔😕
I purchased an old house in Enfield, NC and have visited the Branch Historic house. Good stuff!
6 room house built by my distant cousin actually.
it cost 150,000.00 to move and the cost of the lot and reconstruction. You will need 400,000.00$
Paul Smith. I keep that money in my pocket instead.
good idea.
Yikes I'm all set that is way too much money
Paul Smith that's why they are free
aecrouch 2016 “The staircase alone would be worth the cost of moving this house”.
Wouldn't it mess with the integrity of the house to move it... especially brick. Love this
These houses were never designed to up and move them. Old houses are very deep rooted into the ground! Moving an old home like these would literally fall apart! The expense for trying to move one of these houses would cost well over $100k
Laura Wright It is expensive, but I've known people who moved an old Victorian to the beach...
These guys are pros: ruclips.net/video/b0kqz2VJMUI/видео.html
Okay. I have all the equipment to move anything up to the size of the Statue of liberty. However anything bigger than 3,500sq ft I have to get remaining equipment that resides in Montana. My smaller equipment is here in Louisiana with me.
boy I'd love to find an old farm house to move onto our property. (New Mexico) if anyone heard of one lol.
(sad)
One BIG consideration for each of these houses will be if there is Available Property to move the house TO that is within reasonable distance of the current location!
Just say they are all haunted and they will be taken like hot cakes!
Robert Veach. Robert Veach..really?
lol! love it
I would love to have the house in Indy, IN. I just don't have the land. Would it cohost the the house is worth to move it? Where would you find houses for free to move?
how do you go about moving a house and how much does it cost. I would love to have one of these but I don't even know where to even start.
Maybe this could help: ruclips.net/video/b0kqz2VJMUI/видео.html
The makers of this video also made a video about moving houses.

How much does moving a house cost? Does it depend upon distance? And how much does a lot to put it on cost?
Absolutely beautiful homes
I like to know more info about the property in Gunterville, AL really nice home is it still available.
Beautiful homes, wish had them here in Minn. Thank you for letting us know
check out tax and commissioners sales.
Just a round figure, please..... How much does it cost to move a house or large building, taking mileage into consideration of course??
Are these homes still available?
yes they are you pay tens of thousands in back taxes and its yours free
sunshine superman Really?
i love the 1st one just beautif wonder if there still free now
Correct
So sad...
It must cost a lot to move the house since nobody wants them???
In pa a few years ago I seen a listing for homes on one street they were all for 1 dollar but the inside was trashed and it had lot junk all over the floors I can't rember were they were it was many years go
Free ?😒 Great until in the middle of the night you start hearing stuff, and objects start moving by themselves!!😈💀👻
FK yo FEELINS Free with tenants included lol
Funny.
Lol true
FK yo FEELINS Lmao
That's wtf i said. .looking at those stairs i was like perfect stairs that. 👻ghost to creep up on...
I love old historical houses. They seem so solid with their bold trim and lovely stair cases...and if it had stained glass...i knew it was meant to be..i keep having a dream of me moving into old home with stained glass window and a friendly ghost. My dream is to buy one thats been restored. I love watching some of these shows that fix em up...but i dont have the eye, knowledge or funds for that.
hello I'm really interested in the houses how can I contact them.
Would love to own but how much to move and how much would property to put it on cost?
I love the house from ALABAMA
if I can just be bless with a nice home for me to rent it would be so cool I'm a disabled woman just trying to pay someone rent to live my life with my family blessed are the ones that consider the poor
miguel amaya, I believe that home is still there, but I'm not sure.
It's rare but it does happen. If you have enough money you can do anything.
Marian Yulo There are many people who move houses. There are tons of companies that this is all they do.
of its empty you should be able to just waltz in and say it's mine
Marie, why? People own the property. They are offering the house for free, what more do you want?
There all beautiful and have history...and never will you find house like thet were built like bricks...Antiques r the best
Am a little confuse, what exactly do you mean by move a house, how can a house built be moved?
Sharon Ossai you have Google right? you don't need to be told everything
>:( Why are you playing 2 music tracks at the same time?
wish there were more houses in Louisiana like those. I'm from new orleans and I love old style homes but can seem to find any near my area. my husband is retired veteran and they have so many rules of why they can't put veterans in old houses but rather they move in a better condition house. Any tips on how we may gather info on old style homes for veterans?
Why are you playing 2 songs as background at the same time? So annoying!
Sorry! Our terrible editing skills, we have gotten better I promise ;)
I was trying to listen to her with two different song is playing in the background!
Baoshi, Bijou
This post was recorded inside a haunted house.
Haaahaaahaaahaaaha. 2 songs?
YES THAT WAS VERY ANNOYING.
How much does it cost to move a whole house?
Taylor In the early eighties the city of Duarte moved a historic home to a park. The community held several fund raisers because it was $10,000.00 per mile.
Please include the acreage with the description and price and whether ponds and/or streams are included on the land and if possible adjoining land is for sale. Much appreciated. Also, are there outbuildings, fences, and animal stalls. Thank you.
they may be free but they cost thousands and thousands to move
i like 1 and 3 but could never afford to ship them here in the Uk also i don't have a plot of land to put any of them on
I been buy that house so many times i have always loved that house in grimesland nc.but being poor i couldnt affored to move it. sad face
I would like to have a house in Maryland
Restoring a Victorian abandoned house would be a wonderful idea. If you have one somewhere in Maryland please let me know. Historical houses are beautiful and structured better than the ones today.
So many beautiful homes.
We just posted a new video about a house in Maryland, a big old White Farmhouse!
There’s always a catch
What lovely houses! I hope they found new turf with a loving family. Is there a follow up on any of these houses?
Just gotta tell you it is ...not plan like stan ... it is Plano... like airplane....
What I have to do....or what I got to pay to get that free house Massachusetts...I live in Massachusetts
It is very expensive to move a house .You could build 1 cheaper .

There are a ton of free homes in Detroit
Joluvslilhorses 😅
Crystal Moet
Joluvslilhorses they need em for shootouts

Lol yeah after they been lit on fire over a thousand times
O god I wish I could move ALL these houses! They really are so gorgeous!

Circa Houses how can I get a chance to get one these homes in need and willing to move it
Charlene Hurst lol
That was fixing to be my question,,I may go get the guntersville home,,I live in Alabama
I thought it was cool they were able to move the Cape Hatteras lighthouse... to me, that kind of a move would be like the scariest game of Jenga ever.
Laura Bailey sounds like you are pitching your business and I've read your replies to commenters, you are arrogant and rude. pass
I think she means 6 haunted houses that will definitely possess your family
I do not have the exact prices for moving a house.....but considering the fact that one gets these houses more or less for free ,it possibly is still a good deal if one payed around $ 50.000-80.000 for moving, re-erection and some renovation. And you have a decent house with character...
Probably cost ya more to move these things than to just build a brand new one.
You are correct. One doesn't do this because they are looking for a bargain, one does it because they love old homes and want to live in one. That would be me. I would take any of these homes if they were near enough to me that the cost of moving wasn't overwhelming to my budget.
nunya biznez glad u have the money dude
my house was built pre 1862 upkeep to keep original is a nightmare! if you were to try and move these houses the interior walls would shatter.
I will NOT show this to my wife
David M 😊probably a splendid idea.
Hahaha David!
I love it, what us the process to fallow?
Come on?!... Did I hear her say FREE????? ONLY BECAUSE THEY'RE HAUNTED!!!!!!!
I'm in Uk I want any of them lol gorgeous. How can they even think of pulling any of these beautiful houses down. Noooooooo they can't do it!,
My husband of 31 yrs has had two spinal surgery's. GB
Cynthia Reyes
I totally relate to what you're saying. I had a spine surgery myself that failed so it's pain for life for me. And I live in literally the most expensive place in the country to live, the San Francisco Bay Area😬
But yes I think the City or at least the government should step up and pay the moving cost for some deserving hard-working honest people to have. They give housing to people on a silver platter who absolutely do not deserve it along with money for food medical and everything else. That shit pisses me off to no end!!! The more lazy people are the more they get it seems like 😡
Keep your head up Cynthia good things come to good people 👍
Cynthia Reyes How much is rent where you live sweetie?
Would be cool to have one of those...if could afford...and fix. One was brick ...how do you move a brick house?
looks haunted ....where the spirit is still around 😱😱😱
How much does it cost to move it
Sounds too good to be true!!! Free but how can we move them and what cost!?? No dream homes for me and no thumbs up for you!!!
ruclips.net/video/b0kqz2VJMUI/видео.html
All sounds fine and dandy, but what are the frames like. Are the frames all dried out, full of termite damage, dry rot??? Maybe contact the people at the PBS program This Old House, maybe they have some interest in the ones on the east coast particularly the house in Mass. Before you get all hot to trot on one of these watch the movie The Money Pit.
Are they abandon for reasons tho? Maybe there haunted.
These are all lovely! They still look like they could be lived in why in the world would they want to tear them down or get rid of them??? UGH people are crazy.
All haunted that's why it's free...no THANK you!
how can you remove the house from the land ? isn't that gonna collapse.
They are for free because they are haunted LOL
I’ll pray the ghosts right out the house.
@Tina Whitfield Amen to that! God Bless You.
Candy Smith Lol
That only matters to those who believe that a house can be haunted.
No one has bought those houses because they're all probably hunted.
