Usually if a home can't sell, something is wrong with it, or the neighborhood it is in. It's not smart to buy a house located near a river due to the risk of flooding.

Besides all the "buyer beware" reasons not to get too excited about purchasing an old mansion, these places require domestic workers inside and out. Also the area zoning laws may require historic homes to be restored with natural building materials. So we are talking the well-known Money Pit here!

Absolutely agree! I lived in a heritage home a few years ago and every change had to be approved by the committee. I was never so happy to leave someplace I loved so much.

  • @redadamearth

Just guessing here, since it's not explained why these properties aren't selling - but many large homes end up having staggering, yearly property taxes, combined with upkeep costs that end up being hundreds of thousands of dollars you'd have to shell out every 12 months, often simply because of their locations, which make them incredibly tough to sell. This means that middle class buyers who could afford the basic cost, can't afford to keep them and more wealthy people can do better in areas with lower property taxes - so they end up just sitting there.

They will spend the money on they're own custom design. These homes are priced out of the market because of design.

A proud man that is too proud to see the truth or admit the truth does not make you a righteous man it does not make you a man of God or a man of the cloth it makes you someone who is trying to put their self above God and that is a sin in itself

So kyle, i'm curious, why no one is buying these homes when they soundand look so fantastic? I mean, in my mind, even if one had murders in it or were believed to be haunted it still would be better than the 11 to 20 million these mansions would be priced at here in california plus it would make a great halloween special, dont you think?

Some of these mansions could easily be restructured, renovated or created in new single or flats large enough for a family. The cost of doing this will be far less & more economical in restructuring, if done thoroughly.
Profitable once completed for private or local authorities; for affordable housing, for potential new tenants, on breadline or otherwise.😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

The last one is in Kalamazoo Michigan, not Missouri and that city has a super bad crime rating on neighborhood scout, that's probably why.

If they are “FREE” ….. i will take them ALL, I don’t care what the taxes OR the mortgage’s are! Just that the property is FREE & CLEAR, with NO judgment’s, liens, etc and so forth!
I can deal with up coming taxes & potential mortgage. As long as everything is “current.”

Years ago I could have purchased a 14,000 sqft house for roughly 300K , some did purchase it and did a full restoration of it- because where its located it still would be sold for under 1M. I am looking for a Mid Century Modern/Contemporary/Modernist to redo; being an Industrial Designer - I am not crazy about mod homes that have been badly flipped. I will check OMAZE out.
