Property taxes and renovations would make most mansions less affordable. Not to mention heating and cooling a large place is a waste of money.

I live in Ohio and TRUST ME you don't want any of these houses that's being advertised in Cleveland. They aren't in a good area and you would never make any progress due to thieves and vandalism.

Have to be careful of that. My distant cousin bought a huge mansion in Southern California for CHEAP. Two weeks later she was stuck with a $2.3 million cleanup fee. There was a dump that had 100s of buried 55 gallon drums of Toxic chemicals from WWII and as owner she was FORCED to have it removed properly.

@@carlataylor1125 honestly....I can believe it. I was being harassed by the city for a building I owned that they wanted gone. They said it had asbestos in it, even though I had it tested independently and they found none......the city hired a company who bagged the whole house, wore crazy garb and masks, used a filtration system and had it guarded overnight...charged me like 7k for a 1500 SQ ft empty building.

Our family business is building and we have renovated many homes we use as rentals. The estimated renovation costs of 78k for that 8k home is vastly wrong. We can spend 50-60k just doing update reno work on a house that isn’t at all in that condition. That’s the problem with HGTV as well, it gives people unrealistic ideas of what work can cost or be done.
Got to love HGTV……”We are going to blow out this wall, totally re-work the structure, add a wall sized slider that will open the entire back of the house to the outside for $599. We were able to get the slider for free because we found it at a dumpster so that helped keep the cost down. “. 😂😂😂

      I. Can pretty much guarantee the house in syracuse is in a bad part of town. I know because I lived there almost my entire life. (50 years +-) The city will need to see your complete plan for renovation as well as confirming that you have the required amount of funds available for the renovation before they will even consider the possibility of selling to you.

EPOXY COATED REBAR HAS TURNED OUT TO BE A POOR CHOICE IN REBARS.
ONE CUT IN THE COATING AND IT STARTS TO RUST OUT AND WEAKEN THE BARS.
THEY DON'T USE THEM ANYMORE UNLESS THE COATING IS FULLY INSPECTED AND FIXED BEFORE A POUR.

It's always been my dream that I would inherit a beautiful Historic Home; i favored Greek Revival. I was adopted at birth by a single mother in her late 40's in 1969. I've always felt I was born in the wrong century. I came from nothing, I dreamed big.
Unfortunately, its never come to pass. So, seeing these magnificent homes just sitting there rotting away, NOT TAKEN CARE OF by their owners, but taken for granted, and sold for the highest bid. Completely utter GREED!!!!

The Jacksonville one would be a great single family home. Depending on state laws the Historic ones become touchy; One of the showed to have off the shelf replacement windows and with many states those are a big no no for historic houses. Really enjoying this series! Keep Orange Crushing It!

You have to be careful of a lot of these deals you can get a steal of a deal or you can get a deal that steals your money some of these properties seem to have historical significance as a result they may be limitations on what you can do with it. 4 most it would be cheaper to just tear it down and do a new construct as a potential buyer you need to investigate thoroughly the history of the land what's buried on it what was there before and the house before you make any purchase
