I enjoy these reviews, but the only thing I would like to see that's not already shown is a demonstration of pulling with a short consist.

The trailing truck of the loco is hung up and not touching the track. The axle is not rotating. Now, just to show my age, the protective bracing is shoved under the 'smoke box'. The boiler in over the fire box. I do enjoy your reviews none the less, I was just born during the age of steam.

Why was the rear truck not resting on the rails?

I had to go back downstairs to check. I couldn't tell from my height and distance from the loco. The trucks just needed to be tugged on a little and now make contact with the rails. Thanks for the catch.

Just an FYI if you press F9 on your controller it initiates the startup sequence for all BLI engines. When running if you press F9 again it initiates a shutdown sequence. Other than that it was an awesome review. I know BLI has some PRR Lite Mikes so I am now going to go get one for my roster. Thank you for another excellent review sir. :)

I like the unboxing - keeps the manufacturers honest on packing, parts, instructs, quality control, etc.

I've been out of buying model trains for some time, but for when I do get back into buying new models, I'm going to go for a CNR version of this locomotive. Great review by the way.

Nice review just got the PRR version. I noticed the whistle volume is pretty low even on mine and even after adjusting it is still to low compared to both the bell and chuff if I try to keep the volumes in line with other locos on my layout. Dont know why but cant get a decent volume out of the whistle.

I got a Athearn 2-8-2 HO Scale for $150 DCC ready in Minneapolis MN..... How much do these go for on average?

Great review James! BLI does have some good stuff. On the unboxing, I like them but the fast forward does save some time for stuff to be explained. Also, send me your address and I will send you a pointer that you might find harder to lose. LOL. Really, I will. Cheers, Dan

What is the minimum turn radius and how picky is she on turnouts? I have a mikado from MTH and it's very finicky

I hope the re release of 4501 in Paragon 3 has the whistle this engine blows. And the same bell. Yea what a bummer they could fit the smoke in the Paragon 3 engines. There's no smoke on Paragon 3 2-8-2 Mikados and 4-6-2 Pacific.

The Traction / Pulling Power of this loco, like most BLi locos is artificially high, due to it's traction tyre. So you can never have prototypical running; i.e. wheel slip. Shame I'm not into model trucks with their big rubber tyres. ;)

Good looking locomotive. Too bad it's not available without the noisemaker.

I don't understand how BLI can fit a smoke unit in a Consolidation but not a Mikado. Sorry, I'm not buying it. Nice model otherwise. BLI needs to upgrade their sounds. They have fallen behind. I would put MTH, ESU, TCS, and SoundTraxx all ahead of BLI in the sound department. I wish BLI would just partner with one of the leaders so we could get the best sound and smoke in the same model.
