For those of you sensitive to soy, tempeh is also soy derived. From my understanding, Asian cultures do not use soy products in an excess amount like one might be prone to with a vegan diet. Soy is also in many processed foods and can even be difficult to avoid at restaurants as vegetable oil typically contains soybean oil in North America. It’s also important to note that Asian cultures would be better adapted to including soy as a regular part of their diet. Those of us with European, Middle Eastern, African and other ancestry/ethnicity may not be as well adapted to consuming it with benefit. A lot of soy products we consume here are highly processed, and of course, there is no one food that is good for everyone. On an anecdotal account, my hormones and menstruation were completely messed up for a few years (I was spotting through most of my cycle). My naturopath had me cut out soy and also add certain seeds to balance my hormones and boom! Everything worked well again. Not saying people should avoid it completely, I still occasionally consume it every blue moon when I’m willing to deal with the consequences. I acknowledge I’m highly sensitive to it. All I’m saying is that it may not be the best protein source to make your number one source. Every body is different, so in the end, you have to find out what works best for you. I think it’s just helpful to be mindful how you may be reacting to what you eat. Just some food for thought for you soy lovers out there.
I honestly appreciate it a lot that you don't tell everyone to go vegan immediately but rather make them aware of little ways to change their eating behavior and to eat more mindfully, personally it's more motivating to try to eat vegan than people getting angry for not eating vegan...
So happy to find another vegan yogi. It makes so much sense from a yogic perspective- ahimsa. I don't know how one can interpret the yoga sutras other than that the non harming should extend to all creatures ( and ourselves) .
in every video about veganism people tell to use supplements but noone talks about whether supplement are totally okay for the body. I want to know that. because I don't think that the chemical supplements can be helpful for every organ in the body. if anyone has knowledge please inform me. also I heard that the factories that produce the supplements are harmful for the environment so that is opposite purpose of veganism. I am confused. please somebody inform me🙈
@ cheese person, I personally don't eat vegan cheese because I've never been a cheese fan but there's a company called 'Nutcrafter creamery' which makes artisan vegan cheeses which look 100% cheeseboard worthy !
I've been eating plant-based for 8 years know and during that time I've also read many papers and books and tried to verify all sorts of theories and points of view. And this is why I would not agree with many things that Rihannon is saying. I don't want to be offensive, but the things we learn even at the best universities and schools are not always true. Nutritionists have also their own opinions, and Rihannon can of course have her own, but let me give you just one example: milk myth: "The milk myth has spread around the world based on the flawed belief that this protein and calcium-rich drink is essential to support good overall health and bone health in particular at any age. It is easy to understand that the confusion about milk's imaginary benefits stems from the fact that it contains calcium - around 300 mg per cup. But many scientific studies have shown an assortment of detrimental health effects directly linked to milk consumption. And the most surprising link is that not only do we barely absorb the calcium in cow’s milk (especially if pasteurized), but to make matters worse, it actually increases calcium loss from the bones. What an irony this is! Here’s how it happens. Like all animal protein, milk acidifies the body pH which in turn triggers a biological correction. You see, calcium is an excellent acid neutralizer and the biggest storage of calcium in the body is - you guessed it… in the bones. So the very same calcium that our bones need to stay strong is utilized to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Once calcium is pulled out of the bones, it leaves the body via the urine, so that the surprising net result after this is an actual calcium deficit."
How do you feel about ppl who can’t be vegan due to medical reasons? Also ppl allergic to nuts, legumes, Oxalates, don’t get on with beans, or grains, it’s too hard. I wish ppl would respect ethical vegetarians (by ethical, I mean pasture raised eggs, grass fed dairy, not everything comes out of an evil factory farm). Also omega3, if you can’t convert vegan O3 and you need the fish oil due to medical reasons too, it’s difficult... Bioavailability , as Rhiannon knows. There’s also people who recovered from eating disorders who just can’t be vegan.

Yes, so true. Kinda like Moby and his fan club. Cat has the better, more tolerant approach it seems.

Loved this! I’ve had a lot of questions about vegan omega 3 recently and this just cleared them all up 😉👍 thanks so much guys xx
alpro milk is fortified yes but they have too many additives that are not good for the body. you can make your own plant based milk

‘Tyne chease’ is a great cheese board ‘cheese’. It’s cashew cheese and comes in all different flavours.
I try my best to stay away from processed food as well so rather than fortified milk or packaged foods I believe I’ll need to supplement bleh
thank you for this Cat - so helpful :-) xxxx
