Kindof a strange station, it was clearly intended to be a much bigger, more important interchange station than what fate had for it. Certainly one of those Sydney planning relics that tell a story of what could have been. But also odd how Granville has better amenity (such as the shop on the platforms) and is only 500m up the line. Clyde almost has no reason to exist now whatsoever.
It was more important when it opened since it provided a way for people to get to work in the industrial complexes around it. Now, it's kind of redundant, but it's cheaper to keep the station open and maintain is to some extent than to close it completely, so it still exists
@@enzoscarp Point is more that the line was planned to be extended and duplicated. I'm guessing Clyde station was built with this in mind - back in the good old days where they actually did things in advance.
I don't know how to feel about this. Sure Carlingford isn't getting used for heavy rail but then again that platform could also be used again during peak hour at the same time.
that shed you were refering to at carlingford was a rural produce store it had its own siding i think also i was going to go on a trip on the last day but as you said it was around 45c too hot for me so i didnt end up going
clyde will be getting 100km/h running soon as the points to enter/exit the carlingford branch from the mains are getting removed in the current shutdown
Platform 6 should also be fenced off as "back platform" going into Auburn workshop? It seems between Auburn, Flemington, Clyde and Granville there are lots of historically important rail structures, but now only as relics. It seems Indian Pacific is now broken into sections in Clyde area before going to the Central terminal to save the shunting. Please explain where this take place.
Hi Phil, interesting video. I was just about to ask you what the fenced off tracks will be used for and you answered here before I could include it in my comment. I wonder if there will be any interesting work vehicles to video there. I went on the Clyde to Carlingford line with my dad back during the 1970s. We did a return trip on the same train, as it was a weekend service and we didn't want to be stranded waiting for the next train. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.
@LeroysTransportVlogs He might have been telling the driver that he was back in his cab. In the old days, the driver would repeat the 2 bells to let the guard know that he could signal the train to proceed, and then the guard would give one bell for the driver to proceed.
@ thanks for your reply. I equated the Carlingford line with the Richmond line, when I first travelled on that line it was electrified to Riverstone and I changed to a 600 class rail motor. I noted at the small Richmond station, it had a sort of dock platform in which was a CPH trailer. Since electrification, regular trains ran from Richmond to Central and I think up towards Hornsby.
Hi Phil 👋 there was a time when Clyde passengers could be identified by the cobwebs covering their bodies because so few trains stopped there. Be prepared for the industrial campaign to ramp up again now that the high paying shifts for Christmas are over and the New Year shifts have been allocated. They might threaten strike action for Australia Day, but that's a high paying day for rail workers. Nothing has settled down with the union still at logger heads with the government.
Hey Phil. A random STV / AO crossover question. Just North East of Clyde station is an old bridge across Duck River. It's now a (hardly ever used) road bridge, but I suspect it once had tracks running across it. Is it a remnant of an earlier line; perhaps even the original Sydney to Parramatta line?? Just thought you might know offhand.
Heya :) Is that the one right next to the rail line or the very old wood one further up Duck Creek? It’s definitely something to look into, thank you :)
Platform 1 should be the T3 Liverpool and Inner West platform Platform 2 City Circle T3/2 platform Platform 3 for T2 trains towards Leppington/Parramatta Platform 4 Trains towards the T1 Western(Richmond, Emu Plains) Platform 5/6 Not stopping
is the ttu still going ahead? If they are, will ALL t sets get the upgrade? if its not, whats gonna happen? will the replace the current tangaras with new trains?
Light rail goes to parramatta instead of Clyde. The whole point of light rail was to better connect residents on the Carlingford line to parramatta rather than Clyde which is a dodgy station in the middle of bum fuck nowhere
thanks for the video. chances are it will remain like this for some time. it costs money to do anything else and doubt the government will want to spend it. even after all the car lanes got removed from george st for the light rail the traffic signs are still there.
It's Crazy that it has been nearly 5 years since the Carlingford line closed like I'm starting to feel old now.
I didn't even know it had closed until someone said no one goes to Rosehill racecourse since the trains stopped running.
Nice video Phil this station is quite similar to what south Kensington does in Melbourne now and I think is one of the least used stations in Sydney
What a shame how some people mindlessly vandalize public property, or of any property.
Thanks Phil for another video tour.

I went past Clyde a few weeks ago, I saw that there were at least three of the new XPT replacement trains at the maintenance centre.
I don't know how to feel about this. Sure Carlingford isn't getting used for heavy rail but then again that platform could also be used again during peak hour at the same time.
Peak hour at Clyde station is anathamaic 🙃
What about Clyburn platform, Phil? Thanks for a great vlog!
They should’ve kept the line from Clyde to roushill racecourse for special events on race days
i think they wanted to permanently get rid of the level crossing at parra rd
@ yeah good point they also needed the land at Rosehill for the western metro but is a possibility in the future
That racecourse is becoming housing anyway
It's a short walk from Clyde to Rosehill. I did it at least once-probably more than that. Harris Park aint' that far away either.
Parramatta raceway is being used for the metro. Rosehill is intended to be going to housing - some thousands of dwellings so apartments of course.
I can appreciate the Art Decco look of the Clyde station building on plat 1 & 2.

I wonder if they will also fence off half of the platform at Birrong and Yagoona now considering they are only served by 4 car trains

Platform 6 is fenced off already.
The IP is broken down and amalgamated at Clyde since its running with a triple consist (35Z) so it can't be broken down easily at Central
@@joshcook8586 is it because there are some spare tracks to conduct the operation there?

Why at the start the guard rang the bell 2 times?
I think that is the guard letting the driver know that he's leaving his cabin.
@ yeah but he did that after he was in the cab

I’m from Melbourne, were there peak trains to and from Carlingford to Central?
Love Melbourne!
There was 1 service every week day a number of years back that ran from Central.
The rest started/ended at Clyde :)

@@sydneytrainsvlogs It's the substantial (brick?) arched bridge just north of where the current tracks cross the creek/river.
Suspect the bridge was associated with Clyde Engineering and all the rolling stock they produced.

do the speakers work on platform 1? can you hear anything out of it (regardless if they play platform 2 annoucements)
Hi STV loved the video! but FYI your banner does not include ACT it has all the other ones except ACT
What camera do you use
Today i filmed at Mount Victoria , Bell , Zig Zag and Lithgow
Why is there no blue tactile on the platform 2 side of clyde stn?
Has Carlingford ever got the new annoucements?
how did you make it look like you stood on the closed platform? Did u put ur phone there or stand past the fenced off area?
It's been fenced off for about 2 months
It was recorded in September.
where does the light rail replace track 1 at clyde?
