First to upload a video of both first Metro trains. First time without a coffee at 4am. First time filming people's faces and not the tiles 😂.
Gadigal was the perfect choice being one of the mid CBD stations at an all new station site. You had it all to yourself and got to capture the first service ever! Thanks for getting up for this.

Greetings from Auckland, New Zealand. This is absolutely amazing. Last time I used the Sydney trains ( and they were amazing then) was in 2008. Everything here looks so beautiful. Alas our train service here in Auckland leaves much to be desired.
From what you started off with, It is amazing that Auckland has any sort of system. To eek out some sort of half decent passenger service from basically a freight network is near unbelievable.

Literally zero complaints about all of this. This is really transformative. I really hope the Sydney metro west eastward expansion is prioritized as well after the metro west opens. That way it’s a through line and will directly connect parramatta to the eastern suburbs

I made my way in after the early morning peak from Penrith to check the new section and stations out. Very impressed with how it’s turned out and also by the unique and fresh design language of each new station. Town Hall sort of feels like a medieval dungeon in comparison. Now to await the Mariyung!!
The sound and feeling is EXACTLY the same as the HK metro MTR, from the design of the metro platform, the train to the closing sound of the door and announcements are I can say exactly the same as the HK metro. It is so nostalgic and brings a lot of my childhood memories.
Super glad to finally see this extension open after the small hiccup that happened a couple of weeks ago haha also, thx Phil for getting up early so we can see the first trains to go under the harbour 😎
Very exciting. Sometime in the next few months I'm planning to come up from Wollongong so I can ride the metro all the way from Sydenham to Tallawong. Just so I can say I've done it.
was never a competition... they are doing well too. Sydney are just in a different ballpark completely, especially with the Bankstown extension opening next year, WSA metro the year after, and Metro West in coming years. Hopefully we can get the NCL and Kogarah metros off the ground in the next two decades
Melbourne says hold my beer as it points out the worlds largest tram system while you closed yours down that fills in plenty of gaps between the train lines.
@@xr6lad I live in Melbourne and I disagree. The "worlds largest tram" system is all but a joke when 3/4 of them share the road with cars, and have less capacity than your average bus. It's all for show, upgrades are badly needed. In comparison, Sydney's Light Rail has 6 car carriages with double the frequency. The only thing it needs is a Free Light Rail Zone and it has Melbourne well and truly beat.

We rode on the Metro several times on the first day when stage one opened and then made much more use of it during it's first week. We even experienced Metro doors not opening and one unplanned stop between stations. Standing at the very front a few times, with no driver was quite a thrill. As visitors to Australia, it was a holiday to never ever forget.

Do you know if Transport NSW allow for a walking out-of-station interchange between Gadigal and [Town Hall] station? (I know there's a direct -- free -- connection at Martin Place, but I'm curious.)
My takeaways: - great audio announcements (like "doors opening on the right") - great visual cues (the lights flashing green and red above the doors, the little guidelines for passengers waiting to get on) - FAST! OMG so fast! - if there was a category for "minding your own business in public" Australians would win Olympic Gold. All the excitement constrained. Because on PT.

It's a great time to be an antipodean transport nerd.
I went for a ride on the new metro route too on the opening monday today from Sydenham to Chatswood. which was good, because I loved the ride, being a very smooth comftable journey to Chatswood going through the new city stations along the way. it was very impressive & I loved it. it was the best journey I ever took for the first time on this new metro service at sydenham today. that's a top class new rail system.
