In electrified areas these will have a lower speed than the xplorer or XPT due to the co&k up in checking whether the catenary can cater for high speed (which they haven't been used for to date).....
@@poino11 So the co&k is in charge to see whether these trains can get to high speeds under catenary. You think you could explain more if you don’t mind?

The trip down to Melbourne that I usually take several times a year just got more uncomfortable, these seats did not look like they would be good to sit in for 10+ hours. Do you know the configuration of seating by any chance?
DMU on a 12 hour trip ! The Melb-Syd trip could be improved with refurbished rolling stock + an extra sleeper car and an extra sitting car, with modern locomotive technology rebuild the power cars. Too late for that now..
Me for one. Sleeping in them is virtually impossible, with the stop start and noise. Sleeper cars are very expensive with few passengers accommodated. Better to improve the service and have deeply reclining seats.
@@peterbreis5407 you’re right about the creaking, its because materials normally used to maintain the XPT bogies are now banned. Wifi is good. We could just do so much better than the slop being offered up here though. Terrible seats, a poor quality manufacturer from overseas and no performance improvements. That’s to say nothing of the option to sleep properly on the train. Many do forget that the Indian Pacific was still a genuine commuter service 20 years ago, as opposed to a boomer driven, overpriced inflation increaser. Not a model we should emulate imo
While it is probably time to replace some of the older XPTs, I think the Xplorers and Endeavours should stay, considering they could still run for another 10 to 15 years. The V/line Sprinters in Victoria aren’t being replaced anytime soon, and they entered service at around the same time!
No sleepers doesn’t bother me as I’ve never been able to afford one anyway. In my experience people have done fine sleeping on the existing trains in economy and first class.
no sleeper car = more seats = more passengers = more money making = profits = then either going into someone's pocket OR introduction of sleeping cars 😊

CAF's trains take a while to get used to aesthetically, our Class 195/331s in the UK looked crap when they first entered service but have grown on me. These look rather nice tbh other than minor design things for me which I'd label as me being nitpicky. But choosing CAF as a manufacturer? Bold move, I can't wait to see these trains break down in the middle of nowhere due to a software issue. All of CAF's UK units have had software issues which have taken a while to fix, I would not be surprised if these did too. Also no sleepers on a 12 hour route? Again, bold move.
My thoughts exactly, a regional train without overnight sleepers is absolutely ridiculous, who is Gunna sit on a train for 13 hours in either first class or economy and try to sleep? Definitely not me there for sure, I'll try the regional explorer replacement and the endeavour sets, hopefully the latter comes to the south coast line, but I'm not holding my breath on that one
You will find the overnight XPT is full and has only one sleeper car, so that answers your question as to who sits up for that long. The same people who fly economy on flights that long. Quite a few really.

Still diesel for most of the journey.
I hope the seats are comfortable enough for a long trip and the cabin not too noisy. Looks like there are window blinds.
Nice!
Let's hope that these trains are introduced to revenue service as planned and not end up like the electric interurban sets with a long and unjustified union dispute. Nice looking train, pity they weren't built here.
These are already overdue so yes it is the same story as the new intercity fleet.
Was hoping those things were going to be still a while away. Brits miss their HSTs as the replacements are no where as good to ride in. I can vouch for that. Better take a last XPT ride while I still can.
I hope they are capable of faster speeds because somebody said on the test track in Spain it got to 176km/h.
@@poino11don’t comment on things you don’t actually know the answer to.
@@donoakes85 i sincerely hope I can stand to be corrected on this issue but its likely these will have the same limit imposed on them as the NIF....which is 130kph blanket speed.
@@poino11 they are running the same speeds as the XPT and Xplorer
Look from Canberra these should be fine, especially if they have charging and wifi and the seats are ok. Even the Melbourne day service will be fine, but yeah a lack of sleepers is a concern. Then again rail travel in Australia is a concern.....
The trip down to Melbourne that I usually take several times a year just got more uncomfortable, these seats did not look like they would be good to sit in for 10+ hours. Do you know the configuration of seating by any chance?
More comfortable than planes and the seating is 2 2
DMU on a 12 hour trip !
The Melb-Syd trip could be improved with refurbished rolling stock + an extra sleeper car and an extra sitting car, with modern locomotive technology rebuild the power cars.
Too late for that now..
Too late for anything in this state.. not worth the money
@@sydneytrainsvlogs we’re in the same boat
Indeed, unfortunately :(
why the hell are there no sleeper cars who the hell was thinking a no sleeper car train is a good idea
Probably a government official unwilling to spend more money… At least the trains themselves are nice.
Me for one. Sleeping in them is virtually impossible, with the stop start and noise. Sleeper cars are very expensive with few passengers accommodated. Better to improve the service and have deeply reclining seats.
@@peterbreis5407 improve the service, how exactly? Explain *exactly* how this is an improvement
@@RB-ir3cv Clean, WiFi and power to the seats, So not much. At least the creaking and heavy vibration might stop for a while.
Add sleeper into these trains! +1
If it was built by the same bunch who built the two aircraft carriers. It too might be in dry dock for a while.
Don't understand why they didn't invest extra money in tilt trains to speed up the journey?
No sleepers doesn’t bother me as I’ve never been able to afford one anyway. In my experience people have done fine sleeping on the existing trains in economy and first class.
At least they look cleaner (freshly washed) than the XPTs. I hope that lasts.
They are brand new.
I wouldn't hold my breath on people who use public transport in this country... So many filthy people.
Transport doesn’t know how to maintain trains so no it won’t last after it enter service.
no sleeper car = more seats = more passengers = more money making = profits = then either going into someone's pocket OR introduction of sleeping cars 😊
InterestingI A train that can't operate under its own steam?
Have they given a timetable for new train sets for Sydney Canberra? Currently they are nearly always full. They should replace them with a longer train.
Hi
Do you know when the Canberra line will Lilley have its xpt upgrade?
Thanks
CAF's trains take a while to get used to aesthetically, our Class 195/331s in the UK looked crap when they first entered service but have grown on me. These look rather nice tbh other than minor design things for me which I'd label as me being nitpicky.
But choosing CAF as a manufacturer? Bold move, I can't wait to see these trains break down in the middle of nowhere due to a software issue. All of CAF's UK units have had software issues which have taken a while to fix, I would not be surprised if these did too. Also no sleepers on a 12 hour route? Again, bold move.
Choosing CAF wasn’t a bold move. It was the cheap move.
Love the look of the replacement as I do the run to Melbourne from Sydney sometimes.
Is it going to have the insane number of stops in NSW still?
They look good, should be faster. Do they have electric contact arms to run electric in cities? Do they have batteries?
Only last night was I wondering were the Danish MX's still working in Oz, and one just went by.
@@PatrickKilby-wv9eh no one in their tiny mind is Gunna sit on a regional flight within Australia itself for 13 hours, longest is Perth which is around 6 hours, have no idea what facts you throwing my way
You all sook about Syd to Melbourne by train what about the 14 hours from syd to Brisbane
What sort of ore train was that? I often see them and wonder what has to be kept in closed trucks.
Hard seats? and looks like they aren't reversab;e either
The seats are reversible. They’ll rotate round for the return trip, just like on the current XPT and Explorer sets.
@@joshporter5422 ah. still look hard though.
Let’s wait until we’re sitting on them before we judge. Looks can be deceiving.
How this going to pan out. I mean I guess they do some test runs with new trains and start to phase out old fleet… XPTs are pretty old sad to see them go. But nice see new trains but don’t think there the perfect choice for long 12 hour trips. Interesting to see how they will go.
The train doesn't look too bad but the doors like.. there is just too much glass almost like U can just smash it with your fist. Whish they did the horn while inside the LR Cab or maybe no built-in horn yet. Also i am only 13 and i was gonna go to Sydney by my self hopefully before the replacement so i wanna hope that it takes them a few years to enter service. R.I.P XPTs
Very nice and long awaited replacements for the XPT. I still remember the demo train they took to Northern NSW back in the mid 90's during a NSW elections saying if you vote for us then this nice tilt train will replace the XPT. Fast forward almost 30 years and it got replaced. It may not be the tilt train that was promised but at least it's a more modern and possibly a much more comfortable train than the old XPT.
