7:37 Interesting little parking spot. I assume it where a set waits to do an early morning peak run. Also being a suburban line, I wasn't expecting to see it get so leafy green. Though I suppose many suburban lines must do so. 🌳🌳🌲🌳🎄🌳😎
Hurstbridge, Eltham and surrounds are lovely places to visit for a stroll, and to watch go by on the train. Hopefully further developments down the line (no pun intended) get the balance right with both local and environmental factors.
Thanks for sharing. Can you explain the caution board there before the bridge into Eltham: it had P 40 and G 20. Also interested in the horizontal line theatre signal. Cheers
@@TommieATX P is for passenger trains. G is for goods trains. The horizontal line is indicating to the driver what is on the next signal. Horizontal - red. Diagonal - yellow. Vertical - green. 👍😀
Thanks for the info. I could be wrong but think I saw one of those signals with the horizontal/diagonal/vertical bar coming into the new Union station in the up direction, and it caught my attention. What exactly are they called? Is theatre signal the correct terminology or something else?
If the Eltham copper butterfly is still an issue why not use skyrail well above tree level from Montmorency to Hurstbridge. It would eliminate all of the level crossings and stop the threat of bushfires closing the line. They could install water pipes along side the support columns for fire fighting use in bush fire prone areas. The other option is partial duplication where there is no trees beside the present single track. Use skyrail where the Eltham copper butterfly is located.
The line is partially duplicated in places. I think the main reason for not duplicating the line all the way would be cost as well as not being warranted at this stage. It now has more capacity than when I was based out there driving trains. 👍😀
@@driver667 OK so why don't they just have crossing loops at stations between Montmorency and Hurstbridge to allow for more up and down trains. What the point of having signals on a single line track? If it for line speed then fair enough. There would only be one train that would occupy that stretch of track at any one time.
@@frankbanner8572 trains can cross at Montmorency, Eltham and Diamond Creek and this allows for a 20 minute frequency to Hurstbridge. This is fine for the amount of people travelling out past Greensborough. There's really no need for double line all the way with limited funds and other projects that are of greater need. If money was unlimited, I agree, we could have something great but money is limited unfortunately. 🤔👍😀
Really enjoying this ride from Chicago.

This has to be the most scenic of all Melbournes suburban lines - lots of lovely bushland...

It's a turn back siding to allow access to the stabling yard as the yard is only accessible from the down end. The area is a very nice leafy area. 👍😀

I lived in that area in the early 70s. I would have thought that would have been built in by now.
It's a lot busier now than years ago but let's hope it doesn't end up as just another suburb. 👍😀

You would know the difference traveling on these trains in comparison where you are
Sus how they did not duplicate to Eltham. Really dumb
Would take a bit of work to make room for the extra track. Lots of excavation. Take the point, though.
A long saga as to why the bridge near Eltham hasnt been duplicated. The cutting and road bridge at Sherbourne Road would be expensive too.
The earthworks and bridge would cost a fortune and for what benefit.
