    thank you so much dr. brian cox. for a layman like me, this series was so elegantly, professionally and humanely put together. you have done quite well for your fellowman.

    "a presentable scientist that wouldn't be out of place in a boy band"
    He was in the band D:ream.
    Their biggest hit was "Things can only get better".
    He was also the input for the movie Sunshine.

    RUclips had a 10 minute limit on videos four years ago. If you got rid of the three separate instances of explaining the LHC, you could have combined this series into four videos.

    thank you for this video serie. It really points out the very beauty of modern physics. I'm now learning Maxwell's equations at my university, really interesting.

    Another question. What would happen if, lets say I were to purposely stand were the two particles meet in the accelerator?

  • @ricktbdgc
    @ricktbdgc 13 лет назад

    The only explaination I can think of is that a new particle would be created between the two adjacent particles, borrowing energy from each thus the light grows dimmer the farther it travels from the source. In other words particles come and go with energy exchanges.

    I like how they don't mention the small chance of creating a black hole...
    If the H1 atoms colide, we don't know what will happen, but the force could cause them to be compressed so much that they would become less stable than is required to remain intact under their own gravitational pull, thus creating the theorized nucleus of a black hole.

    I love learning about this sort of layman's particle physics, but I swear if I hafta hear Dr. Cox say "create the conditions that were present less than a biilllionth of a seCKond ahftah the Bigg Bangguh" one more time, I'm throwin in the towel and opening up a bible.

    I agree. Humans are at their best when they are striving forwards into the unknown. Religion commands us to be content with given explanations. We need to leap forwards into the future.

    Um graspy... the absence of color would, well, be black. Since color is based on the frequency of the photons your eye/retina is receiving from the world around you. If I somehow managed to put you in a place where no photons were emitted (it would be easier to just put you somewhere no "visible" EM radiation was emitted), then their would be no color. The absence of light, and therefor also color, is absolute black.

  • @ricktbdgc
    @ricktbdgc 13 лет назад

    This has to be the explaination because we see starts and galaxies everywhere>.. even hubble pointed itself to the darkest spot in the sky and it was completely full of shit. You can be sure if you point hubble at the darkest point on the deep field image it will reveal even more. The odds point to infinie amount of particles if the particle as we know it even exists.

    @Zadamanim lol, the mini black hole could only generate enough power to run a light bulb...
    do some research dude, nothing catastrophic will happen, would CERN really risk the world for a higgs boson?

  • @sidewaysfcs0718
    @sidewaysfcs0718 15 лет назад

    even if they dont find the higgs
    that wont make the standard model useless ..all the particles found and predicted by the standard model so far are real ...
    even if the higgs doesnt exist ..maybe theres a different mechanism for mass...who knows.

  • @SmogFX
    @SmogFX 16 лет назад

    And i guess you have thought about it as well? Also studied in Mechanical physics to make such a comment to these highly educated and experienced scientists. I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a Human Bean aswell.

  • @ricktbdgc
    @ricktbdgc 13 лет назад

    you guys there is a problem with particles in general. they describe a particle as a dot in space. ok.. imagine a source of light like a star emitting photons in all directions. there has to be a finte (limited) amount of these photons or the whole universe would be solid white light, ok. Now imagine these particles moving away from the source 360 degrees in all directions. the farther away from the source, two particles directly adjacent to one another will slowly drift apart laterally

  • @graspy
    @graspy 15 лет назад

    why doesnt personal experience count?
    and.. who created us to create words?
    think about it.. perhaps the world we have built ourselves around has influenced us too much to realise whats really out there?

  • @ricktbdgc
    @ricktbdgc 13 лет назад

    farther and farther away eventually the space between the two adjacent particals would be so great not one single photon would land on earth from this light source. Could this be why we predict dark matter ?

    We all die because it is expected of the living. However, as seen in the past and the course of reality, rejuvenation and rebirth come into play. In spring, things that were dead sprout new life. A volcano like mt st helens killed and choked out life, but the life rose from the ashes. We live and die to be resurrected in Heaven or be wrought into hell. Of course, I do not put down your own belief. I welcome you to have your opinion in our nation of "freedom". Enjoy it while its not the USSA.

    more than 50 trillion neutrinos pass through the human body every second, they are not colliding neutrinos.

  • @graspy
    @graspy 15 лет назад

    yes.. thats what im trying to proove in my last sentence.. that we have diverged away from nature... by creating machines.. remember God created nature. but then again.. after adam and eve were taken of the garden of eden.. they were given free will to do as they please. maybe this is why God didnt want them to betray him?
    perhaps the proof of religion and God is beyond us. thats why we call it a FAITH. and i choose to believe.

  • @graspy
    @graspy 16 лет назад

    also The electrons possition is unknown and random only by mathamtical estimation(probability)that you can Estimate the possition of the electron.. there are as many holes in science as religion but religion can explain these holes everything in God is infinite(a rephrased bible scripture)believe it or not but somehow it seems so true. science tries to find "one ultimate partical" "the theory of everything"
    this is impossible because this is god. and i challenge any scientist to proove me wrong.

  • @graspy
    @graspy 15 лет назад

    i dont know what bible you have read , i've never seen the word 'decorations appear in the creation story or even string. and i dont remember the bible being so specific about everything considered that the creation event was and past down many years ago. and yes god does heal and answer prayers.. im the living proof. i cant see what science does the for world but creat cold wars.

  • @rrockinn
    @rrockinn 16 лет назад

    Remember Einstien said "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind".
    Have you truly read the gospel of Jesus?? What you got to say againt the love of Jesus??
    Are you going to say that if we love each other like Jesus told us to, the world would be destroyed???

  • @graspy
    @graspy 16 лет назад

    and referring back to my original point about no colour.. what i mean by this is that.. before the universe was made.. there was nothing.. no colour nothing! i cant come to terms or understand it no 1 can!
    only god was there.. because god is infinite and is always there..DONT TRY TO UNDERSTAND THIS!!.. it defies logic.. but same as u r the creator of the computer.. you can control it but it cannot control or understand you.. only you..are like god to the computer
    but the infinite limit is god!

  • @graspy
    @graspy 15 лет назад

    often times.. non religious people forget.. that religious people are seeking the same answers as them.. we cannot answer the impossible because we are human just like you. thats why we choose to believe and have faith. that is why a religion can also be known as a faith. so next time you scientist claim. there is no god.. atleast be able to back yourself up with proof!

  • @graspy

    god created those scientists.. and i you have miss understood me i was referring to these scientists, who i believe have been created by god, cannot create this theory of everything because god is everything. ha! you are foolish.. why dont you read the bible and research the events? how about you start with noahs arc? & how do you know this voice wasnt really god? instead of defending your scientist why not try and proove me wrong? after all im challenging anyone

  • @graspy
    @graspy 15 лет назад

    hehehe ..... enough said..
    you are using the knowledge that has been past down from many generations? so am i. you can only argue with what you know.. but my arguements are much more powerful. why? because i can ask questions you have no logical answer to. where as your questions contradict because i myself am not the one to ask.
