      It was actually proven that the author made up the story. So it wasn’t true per se. But I think it’s still possible he experienced abuse and wrote a fictional story as a way to process it without revealing what really happened. Many people have done that.
      Either way, it’s something happening to kids everywhere, so in that way it accurately portrays that.

But looking forward to it since all the recent movies like in the last 3-4 years aren’t as good anymore. Everything has sucked big time! This movie left me shook the first time I watched it.. The ending scene is the most horrific. How all 4 boys are laughing at a table together as men now it seems a happy ending, but the abuse still haunts them & the fate that they all circum too all goes back to the abuse suffered.. No amount of revenge or triumph could ever mend the mental torture endured which lead to a life of crime & solitude.

    This is a true story so stop calling it fiction. Names, dates and places were changed, but the story is true. As a victim of abuse, I can vouch that you would not make up something like this. The Manhattan court system said that this trial never took place. That is because the trial didn't take place in Manhattan. I have no doubt that this story is true. N

      Wendy Smith I believe it really happened but I can certainly see why the state of New York would deny it. One they would have to admit what was really going on at that school under their watch.. two they would have to acknowledge these guys were able to completely manipulate the legal system

    • @patrickmorrissey3084
      @patrickmorrissey3084 5 лет назад +15

      It's not true. Lorenzo Carcaterra attended Sacred Heart in Hell's Kitchen but that's where the truth begins and ends. According to the school he was never absent for an extended period of time let alone the six months he claims in the book. So IF it did happen it did not involve him in anyway and was a story he most likely got from somewhere else, probably his imagination. Just because you are a victim of abuse does not mean you have to believe every story that comes along. You just want to believe it.

      Patrick Morrissey I don’t care if they the story is true or not. It’s a film that highlights the fact that abuse does take place. Abuse is still happening everywhere even women who sleep with teenage boys is abuse. As a catholic I condemn the Vatican for still covering up the abuse children around the world have suffered and are still suffering. People need to wake up because almost everyone I know has been through some sexual abuse.

    This book and movie reminds me... power can be dangerous in peoples hands. I notice, not all but a lot of priests, cops and people like that etc. tend to turn evil with power and abuse their authority. Its like they become Godlike because of the control they are allowed to have, ironically making them probably the most dangerous people. Humans also tend to have a sheep-like mentality and can be very dangerous in groups, in this case a group of gaurds. It adds to the power to over-power others.

    For those who think this is based on fiction. The book was based on "The White House Boys".
    You can find the story on youtube

    First half I really liked. The second half after Kevin in the bar scene I thought let the movie down.

    Morals:
    Beatings and abuse can turn people who could have otherwise straightened out into hardened criminals. The case is specially made with John, who was the most kind-hearted of the group and who wanted to be a priest, but who ended up the coldest one of them all.
    Just punishing kids with behavioral problems with no effort to reach or help them will likely just make them worse. Shakes notes that most of the kids in the facility had been in there before and had been basically written off already.
    Shakes learns from Father Bobby that when you do something bad, it's important to face up to it and accept the consequences. Otherwise, you spend your life running away.

    Dustin Hoffman is one of the most UNDERRATED actors to ever grace our screens and this movie is the proof.

    • @notsureiL
      @notsureiL 3 года назад

      Underrated? He belongs to the a-list Hollywood ensemble. He really were in great now classic pics during the 60s and 70s just like De Niro. Midnight Cowboys, Papillon, Tootsie, Marathon Man, Kramer vs. Kramer, All the President's Men, The Graduate and so forth.

      You are delusional if you think that. He is highly respected, looked up to by young actors, done extraordinary films and has won best actor 2 freakin times, i dont see what else you can possibly hope to get to be regarded as "not underrated"
