This will be my 4th year without a tv licence, I'm 68 years old and there is absolutely nothing on the BBC or any other live tv channels that is of any interest to me, I like to watch you tube as I can select content providers that appeal to me., I also watch movies on amazon prime. The first year I rang the bbc and declared no licence needed, however as soon as a year had passed and my old licence date came up I received a letter so I rang them again. Since then I have moved property end of May this year and the thoughtful BBC have sent me a letter every month telling me that the property is unlicenced,, they can keep sending them if they haven't worked it out. I would gladly pay for a licence if I watched live tv but I would rather choose what I watch and when. Keep the vids coming Jon I'm sure thousands that are afraid to cancel will cherish your great advice
It's so great that someone is holding the BBC to account. The license fee is totally abhorrent especially as most people don't even watch the BBC yet they use the television channels that people do watch and are not funded by the license fee in their enforcement. This is totally unacceptable. It's like going to Sainsbury's buying your shopping and then having to pay for someone else's bill at Tesco too.
so basically, people are literally paying to be brainwashed and socially engineered? wow. if thats not some kind of black magic sorcery then i dont know what is.
I cancelled with your help..probably about 4-5 years ago. Cost of living and the TV licencing sales tactics made me decide. Have never looked back and NEVER regretted it.
I refuse to support the bbc far as I'm concerned the BBC should scrapped the licence made sense when we had only had three channels because it you didn't pay you didn't watch anything but now we have a choice, and I choose to tell the bbc to get stuffed, especially in light of the resent scandal.
Yeah, it made more sense when you could count the channels on one hand, and everyone was using the BBC's hardware, but now everyone's got their own hardware and own infrastructure.

I bet it’s way more than half a million that have cancelled. Am an old geezer but tech savvy, I have a lot of elderly neighbours. Have been telling them they don’t need a TV license for ages. Since the Huw Edward’s thing, Reeves taking away the Winter Fuel Allowance and Starmer calling them far right thugs I’ve carefully explained how they go about it and helped quite a few cancel. A lot of very pissed off pensioners out there at the moment. Amazed me how many of them thought they needed a license just because they have a TV. We all have to push back in anyway we can at the moment and your channel is helping a lot of people do just that 👍
You sir are doing a fine thing for your community!! You identified the problem in that people don't understand when they need a licence and most buy due to the intended confusion caused by the bbc.... as soon as people realise ALL you have to do is cancel your direct debit its enlightening 😂
@@robtheplod The wording they use is designed to intimidate and I find it really disgusting the BBC use and condone a company that employs tactics like this, especially against the elderly ! Am on a mission now to get as many people as possible to cancel 👍 Such a shame as the BBC was great years ago but everything now seems to be infected with woke nonsense and it brings nothing but division to society.
I simply don't have one, because i don't use their services, or watch live tv, for 10 years. The aerial got blanked off years ago. Nor did i do an NLN. Notice the monthly naff letters are different now.
I stopped paying the Tv licence after they told my father, who was a pensioner, that he had to start paying again after they said pensioners got it free. I also refuse to pay for all the massive wages for all the deviants at the bbc.
I cancelled because I moved house. I wasn't happy with the way I was spoken to over the phone. 1. 'You can take you licence with you', I was going to stay with family, why did we need two licences? 2. Once I found a new home I have three letters and then a fourth ssying they would visit.. the usual threats etc. Thats when I decided never to buy another licence, its now been 4 years!
I never had one at my old property , told them didn't require one. Then I Moved house, now letters are coming through with their BS threats, not going on their website to tell them anymore. Let them come
@@iearl504 I just phone them. Using the reg number on the letters, when he asked for my name I asked why he needed my name? He said: I just want to make sure you receive the letter stating you don't need a license. I told him four letters had found me in 3 months so I'm certain this one will too. He replied: I don't need your name actually, the letter will be sent.
My dad is 72 and refuses to stop paying the licence fee. His reasoning took me aback but I actually do agree with him. He doesn't watch the TV because he wants to watch the tripe shows in the evening, he turns it on from 7-9am every morning to watch the news while he has breakfast, he learns the headlines from about 5 different news channels, and also gets to know the weather, then he turns it off. He argues for 40p a day, it's worth it. I'm also aware that if one of the TVL Goons did come round and questioned him, he'd no doubt be too honest and give himself away. So for the sake of not landing himself in trouble, I've dropped it regarding getting him to cancel it. Myself, I'm 6 years TV free, don't even have one in my house. Great stuff Jon.
@@jackgalloway8314 fortunately I think Starmer will scrap the licence fee and just bankroll it out of our taxes. At the moment we have a choice not to pay.
Not paid the license fee in over 6 years. Friends, family and colleagues have joined in, in not paying. Knock, knock. Who are you? No thanks. Door closed. Job done. The letters are endless, at this point in postage they could’ve paid a year fee themselves!!! Muppets.
I didn't renew this year - realised there was almost nothing I watched that fell under the licencing remit - certainly not enough to justify paying such a large fee. So I'm doing without those very few programmes. Of course I've had the accusing letters and even a visit from the TVL "officers" - who said they wanted to know why I hadn't renewed. In my best Chilli Jon voice I told them I don't need one and shut the door on them.
Yep. Cancelled. We don't use any of the terrestrial channels. We don't watch Live TV. We watch all of our entertainment through Netflix, NowTV, Paramount+, Prime and RUclips. Literally no legal need to pay it. We haven't even tuned our televisions into the channels. Why should they be entitled to our money, simply for owning a television, a privately purchased electronic item. That'd be like PG Tips charging us for owning a Kettle.
I was preventing myself from purchasing youtube premium because of the cost, and I suddenly realised I've been paying the tv licence for over 2 years, despite the fact that I don't consume any bbc or mainstream media... so I phoned them and cancelled it, and used the money for youtube premium. Tv licence kept me on the phone for 30 minutes with questions, and eventually they said, I can confirm you do not fit the criteria of needing one... I was like, I called you to tell you that! The person literally couldn't get her head around not watching any of that crap... she was quizzing me about what I watch on RUclips... none of your god damn business! It's the perceived authority that they think they have. Like you said, it's a service, which I don't require, I shouldn't have to prove that,or apologise for it. Madness that this still exists.
Hi. I am new to your channel and after watching your report on BBC licence fee I have now stopped paying. My licence is valid until end of July so after that NO LICENCE.
Since I stopped it 6 yrs ago My licence fee used to pay for my car tax,£210 a yr now I scrapped the car and got another for £20 a yr,win win,I need the car not the tv
I phoned up asking for an extension to pay as I feared the letters I was getting. The guy on the other end of the line asked me some questions and he asked 'When was the last time you watched live TV' I told him we haven't watched it since the Queens Funeral and he told me there and then it would be best for me to cancel it. I was shocked lol. I do follow all the rules for not having one so I'm in no danger of being fined. The goons are still not stepping foot in the bungalow without a warrant though. I don't trust them doing something to set me up. I've not had a license now for a year so I was among those who cancelled last year.
Due to various disabilities i am stuck at home and have not had a TV licence for over 8 years. The reason that i stopped was that it seemed to me that everything they put out is either crap (tv programs), biased news or the scandals of the tv presenters. I have to have everything delivered so i spend my money on amazon prime as it makes my life easier.
The only good things are the repeats of old programs. Sometimes I watch them, but I won't pay, as I've already paid for them, years ago. I own them, having helped pay to make them.

When you cancel your licence tell your bank BEFORE you tell the BBC. I gave a month's notice before my old license ran out. I told my bank when I sent the email. Their response was: They sent me a letter informing me that they had been unable to take my detect debit. I called back and informed them that I had sent an email, to the correct address, and they said they had no record of it. I checked the address and then queried the date of the debit and it was a fortnight before it would have been due. I asked them why and they said if was policy. What, to take money before it's due? The lying bastards tried to take a year's money knowing full well that I was cancelling.

After years of not owning a TV or accessing the BBC, years of getting the "We Are Opening a Case" letters, I formally cancelled my TV Licence a few months ago. The website goes out of it's way to make it slightly tricky I feel.
I phones and must admit it was easy and got my refund fairly quickly. But that has expired now and I just ignore the letters. First batches were addressed to me but now they are "The Occupier" so win win... They don't even know my name now which is a bonus.
Best to write a letter, else you conform to their system. Use a different name, withdraw their implied right of access, and if anyone turns up, say 'Not Interested' and shut the door.
@@G-ra-ha-m Why write a letter? That would be the same as writing a letter to a supermarket that you don't shop with anymore. Just stop paying, they already know your not paying at that point.
Big mistake to contact the bbc... you have given them authorisation to keep your details... had you just cancelled your direct debit they would erase your name... you can now call them and insist they take you off the 'no licence needed' database if you want though...
I cancelled mine a month ago because my housemate and I didn't need it. We watch strreaming services and NOTHING BBC related, so why would we pay for something we don't need?
Hello mate, I have watched you for years. I haven't cancelled the tv licence yet. I am waiting for kids to leave before we do not watch anything live. I appreciate all the information you have given. Once I no longer need live tv (football) then it will cease to be paid.
Stopped paying mine a few years ago when I finally realized it's not interested in providing a service for the ordinary British people that it gets it's main share of its legal extortion racket payments from.
I cancelled mine on Friday, on the BBC phone number. Refund owed is 6 months and opted out of contact for 1/2 years due to medical grounds, unsure on this point if that will be honoured. Haven't watched any TV content for 7 months and have no intention on doing so again. Thanks for the information given on this site CJC..
Cancelled my license 2 days ago after the Hew Edward’s announcement, but mainly as it’s a extortion payment, I can live without watching any of their programs or watching live TV and who records stuff nowadays 🤷♂️😂
No license since before 2000. Legally, by the way. No consol app, no terestrial tv access, no internet (phone only and no app), not wanted, needed or asked for...
Cancelled 4 years ago as we never watched "live" TV - all Utube, DVDs, gaming and Netflix. Nothing on TV that was worth watching - Christmas schedule for 2019 was the final straw.
Cancelled early last year as never watched any BBC programs, but, really annoyed me that I would potentially face fines if I watched other live tv channels but accepted it and have not watched anything since. IMHO as Labour seems obsessed with maintaining the present structure of the BBC, they will find an alternative way of funding it by probably adding it onto Council tax so no household will be able to get out of paying. That method would also help with the unemployment figures as Councils would have to hire masses more staff to deal with transferring the required money to the BBC.
Had a threat o gram in the post a few days ago Jon, it had some sort of scary threat on the front of it but it just went straight into the shredder. Didn't even open it to laugh and to see if it was signed, sealed, authorised stamped and delivered by the elusive Scott Robson or the notorious Ross McTaggart!
Just cancelled before eatching this & after watching your previous video & BBB's video on the same subject. They certainly don't make the option easy to find on the website & as soon as I'd confirmed I deleted the DD on my banking app for good measure.
The reason why I canceled is because our (my household) viewing habits had changed. We stream drama's, documentaries and film and I mostly play video games. It got to stage that the only broadcast programs my dad would watch was Emmerdale and Corrie but we found those are mainly rinsing and repeating old storylines but with a new cast member and they've gone completely woke in process. So it didn't take much convincing for my dad to ditch them for better shows online. When you compare the quality of programs on a streaming platform like Netflix to programs shown on a standard weekly TV schedule. The quality is miles apart.
Stopped paying 3 years ago when the Beeb announced they were going to make a drama about Saville, which ironically got shelved...... like my payment of the TV Tax.

When I first heard about this a couple of weeks ago, I did the maths on how much money the Beeb would lose if half a million people cancelled their licence. £79,000,000 is more or less what they lose. With regards to me having a licence. I have never had one and never will!!
Haven't paid for a TV licence for at least 6 years now. Don't trust the BBC news. Have no intention of watching any BBC programmes. At the tender age of 64 what we view is streamed. I would gladly pay for a licence if I watched live tv but I would rather choose what I watch and when. Keep the vids coming Jon I'm sure thousands that are afraid to cancel will cherish your great advice
The tv licence is tantamount to paying Tesco or Sainsbury’s for shopping at Aldi!
I've never had a TV "licence" in my 55yrs of life, not sure what all the fuss is about🤷
if your still paying the bbc , there something wrong with you defundthebbc
A swamp of nasty woke, totally unwatchable and highly irritating.

fear, or addiction to watching stuff for their kids/football/soaps
so basically, people are literally paying to be brainwashed and socially engineered? wow. if thats not some kind of black magic sorcery then i dont know what is.
Just the recent scandal?
Yeah, it made more sense when you could count the channels on one hand, and everyone was using the BBC's hardware, but now everyone's got their own hardware and own infrastructure.
I stopped 4yrs ago the month after my wife died for the corrupt behaviour of the BBC and the very bad awokeness with gender classifying

Cancelled our direct debit a couple of years ago. Not paying money to people that hate me.
@@bentaylor216 Exactly😑👍🏻
You just said word for word what I was going to say! Ditto then!
I stopped paying for the BBC after all the lies about Scottish Independence in 2014
It's the same in Wales with the media, they are the mouthpiece of the Labour party.

He replied: I don't need your name actually, the letter will be sent.

@@onehairybuddhaWell, Royal Mail have no money anymore....

This is brilliant news if true.
Jon, I stopped 32 years ago was poor journalism, poor quality programming, arrogance and TV is a time thief.
I simply have dvds and videos.
Why did you contact them when all you need to do is cancel your direct debit?
Hi. I am new to your channel and after watching your report on BBC licence fee I have now stopped paying. My licence is valid until end of July so after that NO LICENCE.
It's a subscription. 🙂
What is 'live TV' ?
Not repeats of shows from the 1960s.
Live TV is vanishingly rare these days.

Their response was:
They sent me a letter informing me that they had been unable to take my detect debit.
They will refund any overpayment takes a few weeks tho. I didn't ask they just sent it
I've only just recently cancelled, about 3 weeks ago. I don't watch bbc anything, or itv or any other channels for that matter. Netflix or youtube for me now. Can't watch corrupt bbc, especially with everything that is going on with them & all the biased news that they spew

Chances are they won't visit. I honestly think there's too many people not paying and they can't enforce it anymore.

I have watched you for years.

Didn't know I didn't need one and could "opt out" until I saw your channel
Cheers 👍

The reason why I canceled is because our (my household) viewing habits had changed. We stream drama's, documentaries and film and I mostly play video games. It got to stage that the only broadcast programs my dad would watch was Emmerdale and Corrie but we found those are mainly rinsing and repeating old storylines but with a new cast member and they've gone completely woke in process. So it didn't take much convincing for my dad to ditch them for better shows online. When you compare the quality of programs on a streaming platform like Netflix to programs shown on a standard weekly TV schedule. The quality is miles apart.
