- The Lamborghini Countach LP400 'Periscopio' restoration is almost finished and it is time to start the car up and see how it sounds and drives.
It has been a very rewarding process as seeing such an incredible car go back to its unique colour combination is hard to beat. Thanks to the restorers for the hard work and we cannot wait for more drives.

First generation periscopio’s are true works of art. All that tacked-on bodywork junk that came later was vulgar. No disrespect to Horacio Pagani but I’m simply not a fan of his work on the Anniversary edition. The Countach as originally designed may have been uncompromising, imperfect perhaps, but proportionally it was rolling mechanical artistry at it’s finest.
I totally agree, 110%.
The current supercars seem vulgar to me; they represent a future that has now passed, not like the Countach and its contemporaries.
(..Anyway, an Alfa GTV has its own unique characteristics, pleasantness, driving emotions, complicity with the driver, which tend it much more enjoyable to drive than a Countach 😊)
Lp400 looks great from some angles, but a bit awkward from others with the skinny rear tyres. I quite like the wheelarch extensions on the original S as they give the car a certain muscularity. Then they added the optional rear wing, which isn't to all tastes. Then came the bulge on the engine hood for the quattrovalvole. Then the side strakes on the anniversary and the dreadful bumpers on US cars which completely disfigured the design.
@@alastairfaulds8184 - A truly beautiful woman doesn’t need makeup.
@@studiocalder818 - Agree! I own a mint GTV6 with 39,000 original miles. Truth be told I like the GTV that came before it better. However, my buying decision was influenced by budget. All old cars require an ongoing influx of cash to keep them running and looking good. Had I bought the GTV in beautiful rust free condition like my GTV6 there wouldn’t have been enough money leftover for the inevitable expenses. I believe my GTV6 is one of the best examples of a driver in the world. Yes, it has unfortunate safety bumpers, but the Busso V6 is buttery smooth and makes all the right noises. Sometimes compromises are worthwhile!
@@stuffhappens5681 but it looks good!
Fabulous colour, those seats were gorgeous, no air con in there?! 😂
The color really suited it!!!
And I also like that you used the "proper way to reverse a Countach", as demonstrated by Jeremy Clarkson...
Bravo Mr. Kidston! Your videos are always inspiring to me! Thanks
Matching shirt… class!
What a beautiful car.
Sweating for your pleasure!
Spettacalo!
A superb car that excites not only the driver but all those who see it. Add performance, what more is there?
Extra strong mint no doubt but
That purple UFO that you lent Harry is still my favorite.
Thanks.
Imaginative. Creative. Diverse. Engaging. And the arm hand movements for the sign off. As always, spellbinding. Thank you.
Simon, my day off has started to sparkle and I'm in awe of such beauty. Here's hoping for a longer film in the future.
Video sempre bellissimi,di classe!
Ammiro molto Simon Kidston,e questa Lamborghini Countach prima serie ha un impatto visivo unico, purezza allo stato puro;la più difficile da domare oltretutto!👍👍👍
Retro in stile Balboni..grande Simon!
Great video as always thanks from JDS in AZ usa. Oh thats right this is an add for a used car, I sometimes forget that!
More please
Gosh stunning colour combination, I prefer the styling of these early cars, seeing it now it must of been as or more radical in the day than the current models are now. Looking forward to one of your full videos on it!
amazing music
Fantastic!!!!! Loved it.
The original counts has with its clean lines was beautiful
😍😍😍😍
Oh my.
IMHO the "proper" Countach before they got middle aged spread and padded shoulders. Pity they couldn't get the original design prototype to stop overheating... :)
............anyone need a Kidney and a semi detached in the west mids?!
Wet!?? At the end...
Absolutely stunning restauration! But drowning the sound of the V12 with elevator music should be considered a crime against humanity.
Bob Wallace!
Stunning exterior color but needs a contrasting interior IMHO. Matching exterior and interior colors never quite line up in hue and end up looking awkward together.
I'm going to rob that garage soon
I much prefer the early cars, more pure.
Where's the rest of it? Put it back together and do a full long run, Somewhere fancy for lunch maybe.
Mio Dio mi sento male.....
I saw a photo of this car online, it was in a sad state. Amazing work guys.

AC not working but who cares!
restored for monetary reasons only
Clearly… it was restored by a member of the family that bought it new, so you got this one wrong Rover…
If you don't have anything intelligent to say. Don't say it. You are welcome.
