  • A short tutorial on how to replace the belts in my original TPS-L2 Sony Walkman.
    I used:
    Flathead screwdriver
    Philips screwdriver
    Bent paperclip
    Alcohol and q-tips
    Belts were purchased at www.turntablene...
A big thanks to The Arc Thrift stores for carrying retro stuffs and not hoarding it for online only sales Cough GOODWILL Cough
It's always best to have someone comfortable with electronics perform any repairs. Any repairs made yourself are at your own risk. This tutorial may not cover every scenario for your personal Walkman, it is specific to my Walkman (in fact, most have a piece not mentioned in my video along the spine). Thanks for watching! :D

Just got a TPS-L2, and it's gonna be my first time in replacing the belts. I'm so worried about the wires in the main board. Wish me luck, guys!
Edit: I was able to fix it! And it sounds FANTASTIC!

I picked one up today for 5€, super happy! The machine looks like new but the wheels won't turn, so I guess it's the belt. Will attempt to repair it with your tutorial, thank you.

You have a fantastic teaching ability! Thank you! I followed your instructions following step by step. All went well and replaced the belts. I hit play but nothing turns. The motor does spin but no movement on the pulleys.
Can you suggest what my next troubleshooting steps would be?

Not a bad idea to lube the motor bearing(s) while you're in there (IF you know how to do it without getting oil everywhere it doesn't belong).

I purchased the first Sony Walkman available in NY. Summer 1980. The power goes on but the wheels don't turn. I'm thinking it's the belts. How can I find a place to order new parts for it so I can repair it? Thanks.

The belts I bought for mine are 5.2 inches and 4.4 inches. You can also find them at turntableneedles.com, just click on the "get my parts" button and select your player model from the list and it should give you all the parts they have for it
