I had one of these non-walkman branded Sony players for a long time I loved it It sounded amazing They were a very intricate thing for time time I recall having the back of it on several occasions . I also remember the batteries used to last a long time Thanks for the memories
What a great looking device. I was a bit too young to enjoy the tail end of the walkman life cycle, but its great to kind of "meet" it for the first time- so to speak!
That was a great repair! Well done. Turned out to be a fault created by whoever screwed with it before! Nicely found! ;-) I'd love one of these early Sony Walkmen.... I remember when they first came out, but they were SO expensive back then; I had a lovely metal clad Aiwa which was the first into the UK back in '79/'80, and it was awesome too...but I still adored that Sony blue/silver look!! And now they're even more expensive to try and get! Damn.... well done with this one though.... it's great to see a genuine audio classic piece brought back to life again... ;-)
Get well soon Elliot! Do take care during this pandemic. Big fan, I enjoy watching your videos so much it's really therapeutic to see you take apart old things and clean/repair them. Also I wanted to ask, since you know so much about soldering and that kind of stuff, did you study Engineering in school?
A few days in a row that im early, and they are pure gems. Always enjoy a good walkman video, amazing product from a golden era that gets the love it has truly earned and deserves.
I had a chance to get a very clean one with the case for about six dollars. I didn’t get it. Three months later guardians of the galaxy came out and the prices went insane. I’m still kicking myself.
You should totally refurbish and mod one of the old iPod Classics sometime! There is a whole world of really neat stuff you can do with those things including custom faceplates, custom firmware, SD cards as storage, and huge batteries. It truly is quite amazing!
17:05 the exact feeling I get when I've written a gameboy off and absolutely CANNOT figure out the issue after months of tinkering. Then after 1 small unnoticeable fix.. you feel like a freakin genius and God. REAL!
Why the need to reflow all of the solder joints, they seemed to be ok in the 1st place. Anyway you should have also included the cleaning and how you solved the incorrect screws problem. And there is this stuff called Deoxit which alot of ppl use to clean scratchy pots.
Have you thought about using deoxidizing spray? It’s specifically used to clean pots and contacts on electronics. When I pick up used electronics I usually always hit the pots with it. WD-40 makes their deoxidizing spray (not to be confused with their regular WD-40). I use it and it works super well and it’s not expensive at all.
Great restoration process(trough i wosh you also showed the cleaning process and explained why the microphone didn’t work) but other then that well dond and while there was First there the walkman, then we got the gameboy, then we got the iphone , then we got the ipad,Then we got the smartwatch, Only time will tell what will be the next gedjet on the future😊
Nice one Elliot! Do you (or anyone) know where I can get my late 80s AM/FM Walkman WM-BF44 repaired (belt replacement etc)..? It's been in my family since new and after passing from my Grandad to my Mum it's now with me, and the repair services I tried just told me it's a difficult model to repair.
I keep seeing stuff I want on Sendico but its such a complicated system I still hold back as its seems you aim to win an auction, then win it, then wait for the item to be delivered to Sendico's packagaing department, then pay for the shipping and it just seems so awkward when I know on ebay if I find something in Japan, it automatically sends direct to me without fuss or kafuffle :S If I was a dealer I could see the bonuses for it as you can move stuff wholesale but in my watch collecting I spot maybe one good piece and Sendico isn't cost effective in that regard but the JDM has many exclusive watches we don't get to see here in the UK so I have geared myself up for a "test" run with an item I have been watching and see how that turns out or how expensive it turns out which is a big worry with them 500 yen at each end plus shipping on top of item win price O.o
hey Elliot I bought a TPS-L2 Sony Walkman at least last week! Thank God I was so happy for a great deal of 600$ and all the stuff and such on it works great! However, the sound is off I'm not sure if that's what it's supposed to sound like but then again I would like to know If I could have you repair it for me if that's ok? Or if you can and check for anything else that could be damaged or something you could do Idk how I could send it to you or if their something wrong with it. also when I like to play it I have to kind of like push the audio jack in a certain way into the headphone aux and it's been weird like I had to put one side of the volume up to counter that unequal volume I like to know who can help me please
Do you have any specific paints for the grey section, I’ve recently brought a TPS-L2 and it’s in great condition apart from the grey which is pretty scratched up. Any help is appreciated, love your channels btw
I know u probably wont see this, but were can i find a semi broken walkman besides Sindico (I dont know how to spell it). I would love to have a walk man for cheap.
Hi i really love your work and I have this game boy advance sp ags001 and it's missing som components .I was wandering if you can help me find out what are these. The components are C33 C34 Q4 F1 Thanks a lot.
You can also clean inside the headphone jacks by taking the cotton off of one end of a cotton bud and soaking the stick in rubbing alcohol, then gently inserting it into the head phone jack and sliding it in and out to clean where the contacts touch the headphone plug.
. I was having a problem with my walkman. It doesn't play at the speed it should, this problem happened to me overnight. I changed the straps and used it for 2 days and it came up with this fault. I was checking it and I couldn't find the way around it :(
Did you know there are such things as Bluetooth cassette adapters that are rechargable? I think it would be interesting to use one of those in a Walkman and listen to music that was never released on cassette.
Personally i think this was good enough to go on the main channel!
Maybe he's now sticking to game stuff on there...?

Please do more of this vids. I love how you repair Walkmans and other portable cassette players.
It’s 2:30 in the morning and this pops up. Yes please.
I found your channel today as I am interested in buying a vintage Walkman, and this repair is amazing to watch.
Well done Elliot of ' The Retro Future ' your enthusiasm and patience are amazing.

What amazes me is how modern a walkman looks, it doesnt even look like itd a 1970s device.
Someone’s been in here.
Dankpods reference.
You beat me to it....I guess you could say
Someone's been in here for the comments
At least the Batt-tree contacts weren't too corroded

Happy day. Another work of art lives on.
Great repair! I'm really enjoying your second channel. I hope you feel better...
Hi Elliot I used to have a green gameboy colour and upgraded to ags 101 I really regret it but watching you fix and resto

That case is vinyl. You can buy products that restore it's flexibility. And stuff that will fix that tear as well.

Good job elliot, perseverance pays in the end.
Hi elliot! Love your videos, it's such a great channel
Hey Elliot, quick question, why does it have separate left and right volume controls?
Great vids, love your channels!
I got myself a Sony WM 101, the belt was replaced but the speed needs adjustment, where would the potentiometer be located?
wow! a new walkman video at 5:15 on the arvo! thanks for the awesome video!
Really cool video. I grew up on walkmans and discmans.
It was very satisfying when you got it to work
Finally picked up a TPSL2 to complement my WM-3.
Just wondering where did you buy your replacement cords and also what soldering iron are you using?
I know the soldering iron is a ts-80
Great video😄
Hello Elliot ! I love your over ear headphones ! What model are they ?
found one of these at a goodwill for $5, fixed it and someone bought it for $250! crazy luck
I love your musical tastes, Elliot. Gotta have a bit of Rusted Root, eh? :)
Fixing it is a good new for starting a weekend!!!
The latest Digital Audio player from Oriolus, the DPS-L2 has exactly same design haha.
Cool. Now slap that "Awesome Mix Vol. 1" inside that thing.
Hi Elliot. I have a question. What is that liquid you put on soldering? THX! Good job with the channel!

Why would this walkman have a microphone if it's only a playback stereo model?
If you could do a video on the silver sony bm-12 pressman it would be greatly appreciated. It is a really hard model to research. Thanks!

I was half hoping your battery bay was narly so I could see how it's done... Mines basically 90% brown lol
You should invest in some flex arms with Alligator clips. They will give you an "extra set of hands".
thanks for demo ... btw at 12:00 it was so funny to watch XD

Isn't a walkman just an mp3 basically? But from the 70s?
I am only 16 so im not sure Elliott whats a Walkman?
It plays audiocassettes. There weren’t any MP3 players until the late 90s.
great video
... ahhhh! So its Hat Elliot on TRF vs No hat Elliot on this channel? Either way im on board 🤣
Why is this a second channel video?

You could always just record new music to cassette
@@crtsaretubular3940 Yeah. But let's say you don't want to spend an hour making a new mix tape. Both are options.
yes but at that point the Walkman is serving no purpose!
I feel like I saw this exact walkman on Jauce a bit ago🤔🤔🤔
Nabbed myself one too. Im pretty sure my motor is dead. I can spin it free hand but it wont go under power. So I will have solder in a replacement.
I've just replaced my belts but the playback is slow - anyone know what this could be?
