The USN is by far the most powerful but when you combine it with the JMSDF, ROKN, the royal navy , Australia and so one it's not that simply for China. China is trying to gain experience on these new ships and that will ultimately be the real constraint they face. It's hard to build aircraft carriers ( even if you are China) but what really kills you is training the several thousand man crews that you need to man them. The PLAN will not be able to project power in the American style for at least several decades more and there is nothing China is doing that indicates they are trying or not aware of their real constraints.

    You are forgetting to mention that molten salt reactors are working at a much higher temperature than PWRs, thus have a much lower thermal power for the same mechanical/electrical power, and so needing less radiation shielding. With not needing heavy pressure vessels these reactors are much smaller and lighter than those of the US flattops - a major advantage.

    The Shanghai Jiangnan shipyard is said to be planning to use thorium MSR in future merchant ships. Not only are there less risks with an ambient pressure transfer cycle, the high temperature created by this reactor can us a CO2 transfer cycle with a C02 turbine instead of a steam turbine. The CO2 turbine is much smaller and takes up less space. MSR can remove contaminants and refuel online and do not need to be shut down like PWR systems. In 2025, China is said to start the construction of a 32mw thorium MSR. China already has proof of concept 2mw reactor running in the Gansu desert since late 2022. The big problem in the past has been the hastalloy metal used in the plumbing. It appears the Chinese have solved that problem because otherwise, they wouldn't attempt their full size 32mw reactor. This 32mw reactor moves the calendar up since originally the plan was to produce a industrial size reactor by 2030.
    It could be the first nuclear carrier might be steam, but maybe the second a MSR system??? While China is constructing a naval uranium PWR. it may come down to seeing how it performs vs a thorium MSR to see which is best suited for China's nuclear fleet. I wouldn't be surprised to see smaller ships use the thorium MSR and as Jiannan is planning for merchant ships.
    If so, that would drive the US crazy, since they were the original inventors of the thorium MSR design. The US chose uranium reactors because the thorium MSR makes it difficult to produce nuclear bomb material. Some types of uranium PWR reactors produce plutonium. Japan for example has a non weaponization of its nuclear power plants so it sends the US its accumulated plutonium. China on the other hand has two 'fast' breeder reactors running to produce plutonium to catch up with Russia and the US so if there is a nuclear agreement to reduce their stockpiles, China doesn't end up on the short end of the stick in decreasing their stockpiles. Media reports say that China had some 400 nuclear weapons and their breeder reactors allows China to produce some 500 more each year.

    To the critics who consistently tune in to this channel yet dismiss the information presented: Anyone who believes America still holds military superiority is mistaken. Russia and China have made significant advancements in critical technologies, including hypersonic missiles, drones, naval communication systems, stealth jets, laser weapons, and remote technologies. These developments have made America's position increasingly challenging.
    In fact, for those who have looked beyond the surface, America has been foiled numerous times, revealing much of its technology, which has now been countered by its adversaries. The reality is stark: the U.S. lacks intercept capabilities that its rivals possess, and its manufacturing power is in decline. While America remains impactful in its quest to dominate globally, it can no longer rely solely on military strength. Instead, it now depends on psychological operations and think tank strategies through social manipulation, where it excels. This is evident in how Syria was recently overthrown.
    As America's currency weakens, its so-called allies are becoming disillusioned with its ruling elite, many yearning for liberation from what they see as Western tyranny. Americans live in a bubble created by their government and media, unable to see that the U.S. no longer wields the power it once did. The truth is painful: militarily, America is outgunned.
    May America and its allies (vassals) wake up to this reality before it's too late. The era of cowboy delusions is over. Again from Au in full support of these channels! A++++

The Linglong No. 1 nuclear reactor is a miniaturized version of a third-generation nuclear reactor, and its safety and power output have been certified by the International Atomic Energy Commission. If the Fujian carried so many carrier-based aircraft, there would not be enough fuel storage space. On the other hand, this may mean that the Fujian needs to be a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to leave more space to deploy more carrier-based aircraft. A fully loaded Fujian can weigh over 80,000 tons, with electromagnetic catapults and all-electric propulsion. The Fujian can be a hybrid power. The Fujian can combine conventional and nuclear power. Those who are sour grapes can only talk empty words. When it comes to advanced science and technology, they are like blind men touching an elephant, which is purely the talk of an outsider. People who like to sour grapes are used to making wild remarks and talking big based on their own opinions. Lay people have been banging on about Thorium for ages yet, but they still haven't gotten one to produce the same amount of energy on a consistent basis as existing non-thorium designs.
      If I was on the planning committee, I would recommend going with a tried and tested nuclear power plant for the first nuclear power carriers, and switch up to a Thorium powered reactor once the technology has been proven and matured. the mockup has been dismantled to be modified for the Type 004 class carrier & put back together at the ground mockup facility . . . if you observe the mockup island of the Type 003 class it is made of marine grade steel & not bricks & concentrate as the building it's built on . . . the roof & the building itself is designed to mimic the flight deck of the Type 003 . . .

    It is important to know which fleet it will be assigned to and where its home port will be. If you are mainly thinking about conserving it, then it should be assigned to the North Sea Fleet and its home port should be Port Arthur. If you want to use it actively, then it should be assigned to the East Sea Fleet and its home port should be Qingdao.

      no, 2 ys to build & 1y to test & unduct, so by 2029 they'll have 4 carriers, 1 possibly a CVN. if 2 next CVNs r built simultaneously, by 2033 they'll have 6, 3-4 CVs + 2-3 CVNs, dep[ending on Type 004 being conventional or NP.

      Compared to the complexity of landing on the moon (front and back), returning moon rocks to Earth, landing on Mars and space stations, using miniaturized third-generation nuclear reactors on aircraft carriers and submarines is a piece of cake. This is like looking at the world from a narrow perspective, which is not the right attitude for seeking knowledge and learning. No wonder they go further and further astray.

    Wait a minute. We haven't even finished building the Ford class, and China is already making carriers just as big? Perhaps Doris Miller should be cancelled and new design made that is 50% bigger. Chinese carriers are going to be operating near their home port. US carriers need to be operating far from home. We need a clear advantage.

    • @gumpyoldbugger6944
      @gumpyoldbugger6944 Месяц назад +6

      Does the USN even have a dry dock that could take a carrier that is 50% larger than the Fords? Plus, would such a carrier be able to fit through the Panama Canal? And where are you planning on building such a monster? The US is having enough trouble trying to find enough qualified tradesmen to build its new class of Frigates.
      Sometimes bigger is not always better. Having perhaps a few smaller carriers in greater numbers would be better then a single super Ford class.

    Whenever I watch videos about aircraft carriers I always think about dinosaurs. Even if the USA has the best aircraft carriers they still didn’t dare go in range of Iran’s hypersonic cruise missile. Now Russia has used an “oreshnik” with a much longer range. Eventually the USA will stop being so rubbish and e able to fire an installable missile at something so big and lacking in nimble movement as a carrier. A small craft could be alerted to a missile launch and turn a bit but with something that big or so slow to control I’d bet you could hit part of it even with a time gap between obtaining satellite images and impact. Maybe if the satellite was blown up but USA uses satellites for warning about nuclear ICBM so by that point you’re already talking nuclear war. I don’t see the point of aircraft carriers in 2024/5. They are just targets.
