To make it easier for your cat/kitten, please fill the sink first or get a tub and a cup and fill the tub and pour the water onto the cat with the cup so your cat can feel less stressed and won't have to get into the actual water.

Keeping a pet means you have to make sure the pet is happy, healthy and comfortable and stressing them out, ESPECIALLY young kittens is NOT making them comfortable. And no, they don't get used to it, they dread bathtimes more because of how stressed they were the first time and react badly.
Maybe they also didn't need to fill it so deep (just the way they had it originally). If the kitten didn't struggle to keep itself above water it imho would be way less stressed
