    It's a great camera in M43 world and specially for me. PDAF in G9M2 with body size same as S5IIx means no need to buy separate cages and now I can have 2 bodies S5II with G9II in my workflow. Great video Shane and thank you for all the great work 🙏.

    The launch of the G9II is a significant boost for the m43 community. Recently, I've made a full transition back from Sony FF to m43. Virtually everything you can do with Fullframe can also be achieved with m43, but with less weight (which becomes increasingly important as you get older) and less intimidating to the surroundings. The video quality of the GH6 is impressive and fantastic to work with. However, compact and yet excellent cameras like the GX9 are pleasant companions for a day out. Naturally, the G9II (with its much-improved AF) is on my wishlist, along with the highly underrated OM5 from OM systems (420 grams). The latter camera is a hybrid marvel when it comes to both photo and video (4K and 120 FPS HD) in a small and lightweight body. Try capturing a handheld video with panning using a Sony (e.g., the zv1 or the a7c); it's quite challenging. The OM5 can do it, and, of course, the G9II can as well. Hopefully, Panasonic will continue to innovate and soon release a GX9 mkII and/or a G90 mkII.

    Just found your channel and I’m hugely impressed with your content and delivery style. I’m 70 years old and have been shooting M4/3 since the Olympus OMD-EM1 was introduced. I also shoot a nikon D850 with all the requisite lenses. I have created real estate videos for my ranch/farm business for the past 15 years starting with a Nikon D90 then moving to a GH3, GH4, GH5 and now I will be purchasing the G9II. I never thought I would stay with M4/3 for video but it does everything I need to do. And at my age the smaller bodies and lenses are truly welcome. Thanks so much for helping me to make this decision. I pondered going to Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K but after reading all about it I got a headache - then I found your channel. Thanks again. I look forward to watching your tutorial video on the G9 II next. I’m grateful. Jim in Oregon

    Now Panasonic should experience an increase in market share now that they've finally started adding PDAF to their cameras, starting with the S5ii and S5iix. Their smartest move yet. All those silly people claiming that M43 is dead should stop yelling now. If I were to move back to M43, I'll probably pick up the G9ii.

    It appears that Lumix is positioning themselves to dominate the market. They should have made the switch of the autofocus system a long time ago. I hope they are not too far behind the curve. Was thinking about switching to a different camera system (Sony) that has better auto autofocus capabilities.... not so much now... I really wish this g9II would have been priced a lower as it is M43 and the price point it is at is bumping right up next to the full frame stuff. As well I do wish they had an airplane focus tracking mode. Overall I really like this camera and now it looks more like my decision is to go G9II or make the jump to the S5IIx. Thanks for all the info.

      This has increased the speed of the burst rates, you get the handheld high resolution mode and the new autofocus system. I’m more of a video guy, but it’s a great tool for both. I knew there would be a lot of photo first channels covering that so I focused more on the video side. This is a true killer hybrid camera.

I didn't think the difference would be that big, but after getting a GH5II again recently, I traded it for a G9II. I just shot with the G9II for a big video on my other channel, and it's been great. The improved IBIS, Autofocus, and Dynamic range are quite evident. I have a few more G9II videos coming up in the next week or two now.

    Thanks man, I had to look up a couple of videos. Finally one that focuses mainly on the video features. The g9ii is only interesting to me if the AF works really well in video mode too.
    I love my GH6 and just had a month of testing the S5II. But I don't wanna switch to FF yet, due to the price and big lenses. This really seems like a dream come true, finally great AF and the ability to use all my M43 lenses. Now I just need a buyer for my OM-1 to finance the g9ii...
    Just one thing: Do you have Olympus lenses lying around? Can you test how well the AF performs with them? My lenses are 80% Olympus (and the super expensive primes at that)...

    I'm new to the MFT world, but is it just me, but I am still in shock that these so-called video-centric cameras are lacking power zoom lenses. I mean every camera I've bought in the last 20 years has a power zoom lens until now. This is shockingly disappointing and makes me grab my camcorder when I want to shoot video instead of my brand new MFT camera. There is a huge scarcity of power zoom lenses out there. How is it I am the only person wanting a power zoom lens?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  9 месяцев назад +1

      There’s a few for micro four thirds. There’s just not many. Most people wanting that would be using a camcorder. Try the 14-140 lens. It’s manual but the zoom range is great and it’s easy to zoom tension wise.

Only to unbox my new MFT camera and searching in vain for the power zoom levers. Such disappointment. I purchased the 45-175 PZ but its only useful outdoors. I am still in a state of shock video photography has regressed 20 years to manual zoom. I have half a dozen camcorders I would prefer using over manual zoom.

    Ho boy, I just started a G9 II savings account. Of course I will keep the G9 and GH5 M2. The top screen and 4K/6K Photo means it still has some advantages for stills, and of course, live streaming means the GH5 M2 will still be a video necessity for years to come. But for general vlogging/content creation the G9 II ticks the boxes that only Sony could tick for a long time.
    Except for product showcase. I hate having to cover the face. Sony's implementation of product showcase on the ZV series is nothing less than brilliant. But that is only a small part of shooting so I keep the ZV-E10 for that, and then leave it at home for some Panny goodness on everything else.
    No one has mentioned it, but this camera is inadvertently the nail in the coffin for Olympus. Sure Oly lenses on Panny can be very sweet, but no Olympus camera comes close to competing with this new G9 II. In the long MFT journey, Oly had always had an ace or two up its sleeve, but no longer. Panny didn't just move a step or two ahead, it ran an entire marathon's worth of steps ahead, and Oly now looks like that brave competitor who ran out of steam on the last corner, and is now just panting in the dust. Sorry Olympus, it was nice knowing you.

    Great honest review as always ,
    It would be interesting if this camera could force the 20MM 1.7 mk 1 or 2 into being usable for auto-focus video , that would be amazing , i know the lens makes noise as you know too , but could still record sound separately , THAT WOULD BE A GREAT TEST FOR G9 MK II , IF IT MANAGED THAT I WOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER THIS NEW CAMERA , EVEN THE 16MM 1.4 , MAKES THE G9 ORIGINAL REASONABLE FOR VIDEO AUTO FOCUS , BUT I LOVE THE 20MM 1.7 LOOK BUT ALWAYS HAVE TO USE IT IN MANUAL MODE FOR VIDEO , CHEERS . 👍👍👍👍👍

I just can’t seem to get them to show up on my computer. In fact, when I take the memory card out and put it into my card reader on the computer, it shows there are no videos, so I changed my free rate settingand now it shows there are videos and they have uploaded but there’s no content. This obviously is something in my settings. Are you able to help me? The camera is more specifically for me doing online workshops and tutorials so everything is close range on my desk.

    Great video. To the point of moiré, did you notice this being worse than the GH6 or S5ii. I know of some cases of moiré on the S5ii, but I've never seen anything in a GH6. Given the GH6 and the G9ii have similar/the same sensors, it would be interesting to see if either one does better. Moiré's a problem that needs to be contended with. Have you told Panasonic about the moiré so they can see?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  11 месяцев назад +1

      The GH6 and G9II have completely different sensors. The size is about the only thing that is the same. The Phase detection is a sensor based thing, so it's been reworked completely. I don't remember seeing it on the GH6, but I also don't often shoot above 4k on there either. I'll have to double check it next time I use it :)

    • @imagenatura
      @imagenatura 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy Yes, they're different, but I think it's safe to say they most likely based off the same sensor, albeit older on the GH6. I've heard the processor is one of the big upgrades on the G9ii and I was hoping that it does even better with moiré. Given your tests were based on older firmware, maybe there will be changes. Have you spoken to Panasonic to give some feedback about the moiré issue? It would be worth mentioning as it's an issue.

    Tbh my opinion matters not, but I just have this incredulous attitude toward panasonic for not upgrading their AF years ago. There is no way theey could ignore the success of every other mfg's af systems and yet they just kept releasing cameras with upgraded DFD af systems that were never good enough. They just kept trying to tell us it was good, we kept telling them it wasnt. Did they not test their cameras against the competition? Did nobody at the company say hey guys our af kinda sucks, it still hunts and pulses?
    I dunno im glad they FIIINNNAAALLLLY made the upgrade, but im kinda pissed they didnt do it sooner. And i dont even own a panasonic. I just wanted to. Im just annoyed by that sort of lack of awareness in a brand. Lol its just stupid I even feel this way but its just my two cents cuz i feel panasonic made such great cameras that i would have happily bought one over my canon had the just ditched their af system. But i suppose maybe they just needed time to develop it properly and its finally here

      The GH6 has internal ProRes up to 5.7K (except UHD resolution for some reason and I asked Panasonic a few times about it and they never got an answer from the engineers as to why only that resolution in ProRes was never added to the GH6), so you can record onto CFExpress B cards and use the USB-C port for powering/charging the camera whereas your limited in ProRes internal on the G9II without an external SSD, which you can't use and an external USB-C battery at the same time. Also unless the G9 II gets it or there is a GH7 coming with it, the GH6 has RAW output over HDMI which could be a benefit to some.

    Hi!
    I know you have a lot of experience with Panasonic products. Therefore my question:
    How big is the difference in stabilisation between inbody stabilisation alone and dual stabilisation. I have many non-stabilised lenses and only one stabilised lens. This is the Olymüus 12-100 mm f4, and here the two stabilisation methods from Olympus and Panasonic unfortunately don't work together. Now I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to buy a stabilised lens like the 12-60 mm f 2.8-4 together with the G9II.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Год назад +1

      The 12-60mm would perform great on this or other lumix bodies. The dual IS makes a difference over non stabilised lenses, but on the G9II, you'll probably find most lenses work well thanks to that e-stabilization feature.
