I hate when i-words interpret the Joker as the "plight of the modern man." It was a story about how society set up people with disabilities to fail.
Yeah, it is like they are looking for a justification for the violence they (in their heads) want to inflict. And like a father who hits his child they wanna go “See what you made me do” it comes off equally unhinged.
Well it's more than disabilities it's anybody who isn't a square peg that cannot be hammered through their square peg hole.
I loved the Joker movie and it is STILL INSANE how many people think Joker is the hero of the story rather than a victim of an uncaring system who goes on to harm others as a result. Its wild. Same thing happened with Taxi Driver and fight club. People see a guy suffering and acting out and somehow think that's the ideal result.
People don't know the difference between hero and protagonist. They just assume the main character is the good guy.
@@dandoll4405 they loved the joker before he was a protag.
Or completely misunderstand Michael Douglas' character in Falling Down as being somehow heroic. He's a damaged person who is lashing out at the unfairness of the world around him, regardless of if the immediate people surrounding him deserve it or not.
We just have terrible media analysis skills, and people don't often seek to challenge their views directly, even when you do its hard to sift through propaganda, it starts with realizing that everyone has a bias but that's beyond the average main protagonist.
I also just blame most western stories. Its always very black and white and audiences always assume the protagonist of the story *should* be the hero, instead of asking if maybe the protagonist is a villain. Like, the Joker in the movie is a tragedy, in a sense, but its because he was a product of society that kicked him to the curb and demonized him. But he still commits horrible acts of murder. Same with the classic Durdenites. Actually, at least in fight club there was a hero, and they fought against Durden as the clear villain. But the just appealed so easily to i-words.
So, the Joker is the Green Man, right?
The reason Joker is set in the early 80s is because Reagan gutted mental healthcare. The film directly references the cuts to programs through which Arthur received treatment.
His review has big "My Book Report" vibes
So anything ralph the movie maker has made?
No Greg, we think you're _a_ joker not _the_ Joker.
i am so sick and twisted that greg is just a normal skeptic to me
The jonkler truly is one of the movies of all time
"I realized I didn't actually review the film last time" - Greg as he continues to not actually review the film
OMG DeNiro is the Green Man!?
It's more like a rip off of The King of Comedy, over "spiritual successor." I didn't hate the movie but I didn't love it either, I've seen the themes it tried to portray done better in the works that "inspired" it, only with directors who didn't try to drum up fake outrage around the movie and shoe horned in DC Batman elements. Like I said, I liked the movie but wasn't blown away by it. I won't watch it again. But yeah, the "Joker" guys are like the "John Wick" and "Rick and Morty" guy's, watching some white guys lose their shit in movies and suddenly believing they can see the "hidden truths" while still fawning over the status quo and worshipping the billionaire class
I'm the Joker, Morty.
"He should talk to women"
Yes, but the last one he talked to broke his heart
...aaand his brain...
Like Greg "lives in the shit" the only shit he lives in is the kind produced by a feral bachelor.
*Unmoored Skeptic.
I think Gregory could use his symbol-obsessed mind to better ends if he just became a YT movie-enjoyer who just happens to have off-the-wall insights.
21:24 In this sense Greg is an everyman too...
Okay I'm not one who's too eager to defend Greg, BUT. In King of Comedy, there's a running gag where everybody calls Rupert Pupkin Rupert Pumpkin, so that's why he's switching back and forth here in the video
Also, I could point out how worng Greg is in his analysis, but I just want to point out, that he calles a Green Beret a "Marine". Even the friggen movie gets that right, the chrachters even call him a Gree Beret and taunt him that he is Speical Forces, how the fuck could Greg confuse this? The Uniform is looking way different! DeNiro´s chrachter even joins the Green Berets in the movie and they meet during a mission in NAM and then get captured.
I watched taxi driver for the first time a few years ago, and the way travis acts to his romatic interest is just harassment, except for like the first conversation they have maybe. And the way he describes new york in the scene with the politician just sounds straight up like casual racism. I specifically remember him calling people filthy, disgusting and degenerate. He sounds exactly like a 2023 discord nazi. The movie aged like milk.
Thats actually the point with Taxi Driver, Travis Bickle is not a hero, he is a NAM Vet, suffering from PTSD, that has to take a Taxi Driver job to keep him afloat and then gets in his head, that he has to clean up the street and then buys guns. The whole setup is that we THINK its going to be a power fantasy, where at the end, he actually suceeds, but then you get to the ending and you see Travis fumble his way through the situation, where he underestimates the recoil of the .44 Magnum, then gets shot in the shoulder, then it all falls apart and while yes, he kills the bad guys, it is clear that this did not give him the satisfaction he wanted and craved and the look of him in the rear view mirror shows that he will go down that path of self destruction.
He didn't even understand the King of Comedy's plot. Rupert Pupkin was an okay C+ comedian, not a full blown hack.
Nostalgia Critic 2: Electric Boogaloo: Green Man Great Clown.
This makes me feel infinitely better about my first ever video, which was a review of the Joker.
Something is weird, there are videos missing that I remember watching. The one I have been waiting to show up should be way before this one. Maybe he deleted videos or maybe they weren't in the history is a lie series? I don't know
@@FrozenRosai I mean the ones in the history is a lie series Jake has been covering. For example there was a video about "the middle path" that is sticking out in my mind as being missing between the videos jake has already covered. It talked a lot about illuminati type stuff and the philosophy of "jesus" Aka greg himself, which in turn is a sort of justification for centrism over left or right wing political thought, but it tied into his apocalypse theory stuff somehow.
And there are others, one where Greg shows footage from his old skeptic videos and tries to argue he was always placing subliminal imagery of his green man theory into his work and it lead up to a reveal at the end that he was the green man reincarnated or something.
I am struggling to remember fully but I think there were others that talked about various pieces of media that hinted at the green man conspiracy, I don't have a perfect memory of it because I tried to block most of it out but thats just what I can remember not seeing so far in jakes series.
tbh, after seeing so many accusations of joker being a king of comedy ripoff, I'm glad to see a direct comparison lol
im bout that life
Imagine thinking the JOKER is in any way a representation of the "common man,." That's a whole new level of not understanding a character.
We truly do live in a society.
It's frustrating to see a great film highlight society's failure and isolation of people living with mental illness, only for that message to be appropriated by men who may feel lonely, but still have the ability to seek out community if they only made an effort to do so.
And you just know if Arthur, Travis or Pupkin were real people, they'd move seats on the train to avoid them.
I do feel bad for the guy. I mean... I still find watching his brain turning to mush funny. But still...
The Jocker Strikes Again
His vocal fry is absolutely unbearable
pup kin? 🤨
The Real Joker was the friends we made along the way
The real Joker was ME AUSTIN! IT WAS ME THE WHOLE TIME!
Says “period of usefulness” and then says it may apply to some women lmao
So Greg's takeaway from Taxi Driver is that men's choices are 1) marriage, 2) crushing depression, or 3) violent rampage.
Worrying.
I'm glad I didn't see this live..I probably would of made so many comments I wouldn't be able to pay attention proper.. This guy is a 24/7 cringefest. It's like a cringe-a-thon, uncapped!!
31:05
That's how long it took for him to state Joker's theme.
Now you can obviously structure a review how you like, but holy shit what a rambling unorganized mess of a video.
I think you’re starting to call anyone that’s male, dave
Greg was quick to reassure his audience that he is in fact not afflicted with the female condition...
Was the joker delusionally thinking he was friends with the talk show host and stuff? I always thought that he just admired the guy, daydreamed about and wanted to be on the show? Like, him acting out the entrance of some people he'd watched was practice for potentially getting on the show one day, even if it was a far fetched fantasy and LARPing about it in a sense or improvising with himself.
I know greg is probably equating his breakdown to him being delusional in that way but, I really think that he was just wanting to be on the show so bad he practiced as if he would be one day and then when the day showed up, it was to mock him and that's what broke him after his hard work. I don't see any connection that he was making at the beginning.
Wasn't that the idea? Or am I crazy and that's not what the vibe was?
Well yeah, he was subconsciously seeking approval from a father figure he never had so he practiced to give his best performance, but snapped when made the butt of the joke for a live audience.
David S Pupkin! Derp derp derpity derp derpity derp!
"S?"
MERRY CRINGEMAS !!!
