- Sydney Park is a 40 hectare green space created from old brickpits subsequently used as a landfill site. The park is sandwiched between the city's Southern Industrial Area and the densely-populated suburbs of Newtown, Erskineville, Alexandria and St Peters.
The park is a masterpiece of urban green space design incorporating the city's biggest stormwater recycling scheme which maximises the wildlife habitat potential of the park's wetlands.
As at 2018, around 70 bird species have been recorded in the park. Some species are full-time residents, some are transients, and for some it's a seasonal destination with a couple of species arriving from Japan and Siberia.
The park's wetlands are especially valuable because freshwater wetlands are a rare thing along Australia's east coast.
So well documented great segment bird lover here, relaxing music a hidden paradise on the fringe of the city
Wow! Glad I found this video thanks so much for creating this. We are headed to Australia in Feb 2025 and this park will now become our first stop for birding (considering it's proximity to our lodgings). Thanks so much, can't wait to visit your beautiful Country!
Thanks! Glad it was of some use. Since I made it, a few more species have been added to the list. You'll find quite a few other Australian bird videos on my channel.
Really great videos your doing.. Very informative and great production value. Chhers
This is so relaxing, thank you for sharing your passion with people from the other side of the world ☺️
Wouw ... I love this ...
fantastic vid mate. thank u
Marvellous footage and excellent sightings.
Hello "G". at 2:40, the Swan showing aggression to the dog. I remember I often walked through the Botanic Gardens and I'd stand at the edge of the pond which upset the resident Swan. He'd quickly come over and I'd retreat. I never knew Swans were like that until my experience. Lovely birds
Excellent video with lots of great sightings! Well done!
Thanks Stephen. There have been a few interesting sightings since I uploaded this video, including the Australian Little Bittern, Baillon's Crake and Lewin's Rail. Just goes top show what some intelligent habitat creation can do.
@@possm1 superb documentary sir well done
Beautiful video, must have taken years to film the bird life there. Good work thanks for sharing.
Thanks! The various species were videoed over about three years. Of course not all of them are there all the time, either because they're migratory visitors or just occasional blow-ins. I carry a bridge camera with significant telephoto capacity at all times because you never know when you'll see something new. Yes, I do believe it took 3 years to film, most of the birds you would not expect to find there, so the council did a fantastic job with the marshland setting to attract them. I came across your channel because I needed to name some birds I took at Featherdale Wildlife Park yesterday. I just posted the video half an hour ago couldn’t name a few , and wasn’t 100% sure if some are named correctly. If you get a chance drop by and check out my featherdale video and see how i went. Thanks again for your fantastic effort in documenting Aussie Birdlife.
Dogs should be on a leash in a park,
A hopelessly old-fashioned idea. Sydney Park is a shining example of how people, urban wildlife, dogs, children, cyclists can happily co-exist in the one space. In fact most of the park's birdwatchers are dog people.
