Thanks for posting this video. I haven't fished for cats since the days I lived in Tennessee. Many moons ago. I live close to the Minnesota river near St. Peter. Gonna give it a shot. Have you used hair rigs with boillies? Or cured chicken livers?
The MN is AWESOME for cats! Big channel cats and flatheads! I mostly use cut sucker or sheepshead if I can catch some but I've heard chicken liver works pretty well also. Never tried boilies! Thanks for watching and GOOD LUCK!
I got a question, I’ve watch this video before & I absolutely love it. You even mention the safety’s and laws about catfishing. But I went out and try to find the location. Kinda did my own research but i don’t see the pin point of the sand area of what you’re showing at the background. I was going to give up. But maybe you can help if you can explain a little more? Thank you, it keep up with the great videos brother!
Hey Tony! Thanks for the kind words. I can’t give you my exact spot but I will tell you that you should be able to catch catfish on most rivers in the area as long as you are near deeper water. Use the Navionics app to see water depths of the spots you plan to fish. If you use the techniques in this video you shouldn’t need to fish this spot. Honestly it’s not even that great of a spot!
I use two different setups. Baitcaster Setup: -Cabelas/Bass Pro King Kat Casting Rod -Penn Warfare Levelwind Baitcaster -I use a slip sinker rig and use 3-6 oz slip sinkers depending on current speed, and Team Catfish circle hooks usually size 6 to 8. 60 lb Power Pro Braid. Spinning setup: -Shakespeare Ugly Stick Catfish Spinning Rod. -Okuma Avenger Baitfeeder Spinning Reel BF65 size -Rig is the same as the casting setup. Thanks for watching! I plan to do some new catfishing videos soon as well.
Hey I’ve always wanted to fish for cats is there a bait shop in the twin cities you would recommend for suckers? And have you ever fished around pike island? I walked around there the other day and looked like a great spot to fish. There was a lot of action on the surface near and away from shore but I couldn’t tell what fish it was.
That is a great area to fish for a lot of different species including catfish. Any of your local bait shops should have suckers. I get large suckers for cut bait. Find a shop close to you and they will have suckers. Good luck out there! I get mine at Joes Sporting Goods it Blue Ribbon Bait typically because they are close.
If you have a smart phone the Navionics app is the best. Gives you all the lake and river depth maps right on your phone! Definitely worth the $10/year cost! Hope that helps!
Big River Leather That sounds good to me! I just buy the suckers unfortunately. I’ve been toying with the idea of building a bait tank in my garage but haven’t done it yet.
There are over 100lb flatheads in the Minnesota. Grabing one with your bare hand would be intense. I've only fished under the 35W bridge before the bridge construction with cut suckers and had no luck on both sides of the river. Also fished under 77 as well with no luck. There is alot of areas to fish for cats on the Minnesota.
@@WaterandIceOutdoors ohhh great area I usually go on black dog road over by black dog lake and the Minnesota river is like right across it’s a great fishing spot thanks for the quick response tho!!
What is your favorite bait for catfish?
Watch the video
Frogs!
Neil Niswander I’ve heard that! Need to give it a shot. I know some people swear by them.
Chicken Liver!!

Later it got the bigger the catfish started to bite. Nice job on the video. Tight lines from Rick

Nice catfishing. I haven't done much of that this year.
Thanks for watching Hans. I haven't either with the rivers being as high as they've been this year. Finally able to get out there and do it.

Drunk commentary is the best
Hmmmm.....who’s drunk?
Great video, I live in Mn but couldn't find any good spot for channel cat..You know if there a lake for cat fish?
Thanks for watching! Check out the Horseshoe chain of lakes for lake catfish. Keep looking also, lots of good spots for channel cats here!

Do cut bull heads work for channels? Or are the suckers better either way?
I would think they would. A channel catfish will hit just about any cut bait. The oilier the better. Thanks for watching!

Water and Ice Outdoors Ok thanks for info!! I will try to go catch some cats this week.
Good luck!
How do you locate deep holes when fishing from shore for catfish?
If you have a smart phone the Navionics app is the best. Gives you all the lake and river depth maps right on your phone! Definitely worth the $10/year cost! Hope that helps!
I know where this is, but how did you access it? Did you walk?
Yes we did. Thanks for watching!
I’d go out with you some night and hammer some cats. I’ll bring the Angel Envy Rye. Where/how do you get your suckers, just catching them?
BoatsHateMe

I need to try this spot. I haven't caught any cats yet 😢
Good luck out there! Thanks for watching!

I have fished that spot a couple times and many other spots, never caught any catfish. Strange
That is strange! It’s a good catfish spot if it’s actually where you’ve been fishing. Thanks for watching!
