Fishing for 20 year old Catfish on the Minnesota

Host Bret Amundson is on the Minnesota River with guide Darren Troseth, owner of 3 Rivers Fishing Adventures, fishing for channel and flathead catfish near the Twin Cities. In Minnesota it can take 25 years for flatheads to grow to trophy size, and weights of up to 70 pounds have been recorded. We also see Troseth catch a record-setting 78-inch sturgeon ice fishing on the St. Croix River in February 2019. Troseth had to call on friends to help auger a larger hole to get the fish through the ice.

Cool fish! I like to fish by the chaska area, and also savage area where companies park their barges - many flatties and channels and walleye! And if the bite gets tough I'll throw a worm and catch carp or drum, or get lucky and catch catfish/walleye with those. Really fun waterbody to fish

Central WI angler here that will be moving to the Twin Cities area at the end of this month. I love chasing cats and excited to chase them there in MN.

I caught a 20lbs, 41" Northern Pike up in Ely MN in 1996, does anyone know how old that fish might have been? I have it mounted on my wall!
