    The statistic that got me on this was that it will have a max capacity of 400 more people than Icon of the Seas, but will be 30,000 GT displacement smaller than Icon, meaning a lot less common space for people to gather in. Royal has done a fantastic job of making it not feel like you're on a ship with 7,000 other people (unless you're at the pool at sailaway) by having so much common area to spread out in. I hope Carnival's engineering team figures out a way to keep it from feeling like a sardine can.

    • @boganpainter1638
      @boganpainter1638 6 месяцев назад +4

      Not necessarily. Gross tonnage is a measure of interior volume. Central Park and Boardwalk on Icon are a large part of that volume. That volume could be filled with more staterooms and common space. If done right, Carnival's ships won't feel any more crowded. Although, my expectations are low that Carnival will pull it off.

    • @albertssrblx
      @albertssrblx 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@boganpainter1638they pulled it off with excel and the zones concepts, im not too worried about crowding on this new ship which would have a space ratio higher than the current excel class

    • @CG_86
      @CG_86 6 месяцев назад +2

      We just went on the Mardi grass last year and it didn't feel crowded. Honestly I liked it better than their smaller ships. It felt like there was more room for people to spread out and disembarking was a lot quicker. While the XL class won't be as big as the new mega class I'm sure it will have the same concept. Especially of they don't leave the middle of the ship open like royal casrribean does and instead utilizes that space to better disperse people.

    • @jeromebennett9154
      @jeromebennett9154 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@boganpainter1638gross tonnage is a measure of enclosed volume. Since Central Park and Boardwalk on RCCL are open air they aren’t included in GT measurements. This follows the same standard in which pool decks aren’t included in GT calculations, but closed atriums can artificially inflate space ratio calculations when using GT.

    • @boganpainter1638
      @boganpainter1638 6 месяцев назад

    Kinda click bait on the thumbnail. As a huge Royal fan, I can't be more happy that Carnival is going to make bigger ships. As it stands now, Royal has no real competition in the massive ships, and they are under very high demand (we can all debate why, but they are). Meaning costs are also really high. Adding a massive Carnival ship will help alleviate the demand for the massive ships which hopefully will end up lowering the cost for all of us. Better do it really well, Carnival. We are all counting on you to help cruising costs for all of us!

      I agree. I think both Royal and Carnival need to look to the future as far as ports go too. More and more ports are limiting ships/passengers and still, ships just keep getting bigger and bigger. I really do wonder if it would be more prescient to build mid-size ships to anticipate and accommodate port restrictions.

    I agree with a lot of the comments that say that Carnival needs to start building newer smaller ships too. And not just acquiring 20 year old vessels and re-branding them as Carnival. Their Fantasy Class is just about done, so time to get more. Perhaps a bit bigger than those, but like 120-140 gross tonnage sizes. Celebrity ships are a great example of these sizes. 🙂

The biggest ships of course will occupy the current major ports, with Long Beach also getting one at some point, I would speculate. But the big winners will be Tampa, Jacksonville, Mobile, Baltimore and Norfolk. They will reap the benefits of bigger ships, with more amenities.

    So over these monster ships...I prefer 2-2.5K passenger ships. Sticking with Celebrity and Holland...

    If they keep building big ships what is going to happen to ports like Tampa and Jacksonville

      They get the 50 year old small ships for a couple months before they are scrapped

    I love your posts Jay,however I think Carnival are shooting themselves in the foot, building bigger ships.
    More and more ports ,for example in Europe, are having major issues them and banning such large ships, or charging more taxes and port fees.

    I'm loyal to royal. But if carnival was smart. Build smaller ships that will get to better and more ports and they will rule the cruise business

    ⚠️🤔 Maybe possibly these new ships will be the Carnival Pinnacle … Research Carnival Pinnacle and you will be shocked that Carnival actually had plans for one of the largest ships back in the early 2000s.

    Not bigger than Royal. The same as Oasis and smaller than the Icon, but Carnival's ships hold 1300 passengers more than the Icon. How do you spell sardines?

    No one needs bigger, just make the existing ships better.

    This is why my wife and I seek small to mid-sized ships. I want to relax and enjoy; not sail on a 24/7 amusement park.

    The ship is not bigger than icon, the amount of people it will hold is more but the ship itself is still smaller, only 230 gross tons, still smaller than Icon.
