  • In this video Jason goes over how he sets up his Battle Belts and talks about other considerations that pertain to making your belt fully operational.
Too often people get lost in the name brands of things instead of learning how to make their gear operationally sound by fine tuning every aspect of their gear. Don't get lost in the entertainment value of things.
The goal as an operator is to become very intimate with everything you use.

I learned the value of zip ties when I went on jump status. Lost a complete canteen set, canteen cup and cover because the alice clips failed when I went out of the bird. It landed 3 feet from a soldeir on the ground and he recovered it and brought to the rally point and asked if anyone had lost it. He took me off to one side and told me about using zip ties. He was a SF trooper in 3rd SF group. Needless to say the next day all my gear got zip ties as a back up to the alice clips

KISS. I like your set up and appreciate you taking time to show it. I use 2 methods of securing my gear to my belt which is similar to yours, but a G-Code belt. If I don’t have molle straps I use 1” velcro strap to secure the pouch to my belt. If the pouch has an attachment system or molle straps I back it up with zip ties. I’ve found that the 1” velcro I get from OC Tactical can take a whole lot of abuse and if you loop it through the PALS on the pouch and the belt it secures it extremely tight. I hate my kit moving or rattling. Thanks again Frogman.

I really appreciate these pro tips, I like to listen and learn by masters of their craft. I'm a former tour de France level bike mechanic and I work for an American bicycle manufacturer. I use toe nail clippers in zip ties, the bicycles I deal with are commonly $12-20 thousand dollar race bikes with no room for error. I've found that nail clippers are cheap and allow for a great level of precision and no risk of cutting yourself or scratching whatever you're working on. Thank you for being awesome!!

During my military time movement, simply equated to noise, but when I got out I became a police officer, and my pistol absolutely had to be in the exact right spot, and in turn, my speed loaders, handcuffs, flashlight ring and baton ring would line up so that I wasn't fumbling for whatever. Safariland had just come out with a leather velcro duty belt system yet I still used belt keepers just to keep things as tight as possible, so I hear ya brother. - Godspeed

The belts I have seen I wouldn't dare trust for rappelling. Too many are plastic which you pointed out. I wore one for years in my career as a firefighter while on duty. They were NFPA rated and the buckle and D-ring were solid metal. Later in my career we were issued NFPA rated Class 2 harnesses that were attached to our protective clothing. This was much more practical as if we needed to rappel or bail-out, we were most likely wearing our firefighting gear. I still have my harness attached to my gear with the local department I still run with since my retirement. As you mentioned OSHA, a belt with a D-ring is only considered a positioning device and not a harness. Harnesses (Class 3, Full Body) are required when fall protection is necessary. A belt is to keep you from falling, a harness is designed to catch and protect you if you do fall.

    Great video, great tips 👍
For the cobra buckle: while known since the ancient Rome (they used it to quickly&securly fasten/release their helmets),
the Cobra buckles known now, were inventend and patended by Andy Hortnagl of Austriaalpin (as you'd might guess, an Austrian company).
Primarily a dedicated climbing gear manufacturer (hence the reason for the "alpine" in the name).
And they do build those, only and exlusively, here in Austria - and nowhere else.
In flight securing to aircraft (esp. helicopters), attaching stuff (e.g. equipment/bags while jumping from aircraft) is the primary use of the D ring.
Repelling in emergency situations really just as a last resort option - as the OG cobra buckle can handle it, but the belt itself (more often than not), can not handle it as mentioned in the video.
And yes, the world is flooded by cheap knockoffs/imitations from (primarily) Asia...
Luckily, living in Austria as an ex-mil keeping up knowledge&skills in civilian life (as a hobby, and - just in case...),
getting high quality bespoke battle belts (by local companies matching that quality), plus an OG Cobra Pro buckle, has it merits. Though: as with all things quality - not a cheap affair by any means...

I have a Strike Industries Advanced Retention System (SARS) that I like a lot. They should have a video on RUclips about it. You can put multiple base plates around your kit so you have different places to retain your rifle. The thing I like about it is you can literally lock the rifle so it doesn’t swing or jiggle at all. Check them out, I think they still make them. I’ve had mine for a couple years now.

That was outstanding and got me thinking on the utility of a battle belt beyond the range for CERTAIN civilians (retired military or LE who still maintain and or have solid tactical training as well as others with the right mind set, etc) in these times (open border with criminals and obvious terrorists entering, policies that embolden and increase lawlessness, etc.). I'll be adding a battle belt to my "go" bag, Thank you!

Water, first aid kit and ammo....all that you need to fight on a belt kit....Pens,markers, maps (small things) in shirt or trouser pockets....daysack carries more ammo, batteries, larger first aid kit, 24hr of rations, more water, socks (must have dry socks or your feet go to shit!) water proofs and maybe a very small sleeping bag. Bergan carries more water, ammo, clothing (depending on climate, you go through more clothes in a hot humid than a hot dry etc) food

Some awesome tips. Somethings I have never thought of. I am just getting into the use of a battle belt to use for duty. Was using a duty belt for 20 years then went to a load bearing vest so I was using a drop leg on a ZAK tool clip on a belt.
Now I am going to try adding a battle belt and a couple more things to the belt.
One thing I would suggest, the Safariland land belt look is made to run the belt to the back of the large portion, not the front. May make it a little more comfortable, and easier to Mount.

Sir, I just wanted to tell you that your words and demeanor identity you as being a Christian man. I can’t think of a better quality to have as a man today in this crazy world where what use to be right is now wrong and what was wrong is now right in the worlds eyes. Stay who you are, but most importantly stay true to God, that’s all a man needs to do and the rest will fall in place. I say this after spending the last 24 years of my life in law enforcement and having been part of tactical teams during my career. It wasn’t always easy being a Christian in a messed up society.

    Tip
I cut the zip ties with a pair if wire cutters then melt the tip
    This has a double duty
To do away with the sharp edge and
Helps ensure the zip tie DOES NOT BACK OFF
    I have had that happen
