I’ve been using those heaters for years, heck I just used one tonight to take the chill off while sitting outside. I’ve never had a problem. Great info Kevin, thanks for the video. Be well my friend.
You will be ONLY be "set" when you also buy/use a filter for connecting your Little Buddy to the high pressure output from the big 20# tank. The Big Buddy should be connected via the quick disconnect line which is fed from a regulator mounted at the 20 # tank. This is the "preferred" method as using a low pressure/regulated feed, (at ~ 5-8 PSI), the hose will not leech out the manufacturing oils and gum up the heater....
I just bought one at Tractor Supply with the filter and 12ft extension hose. I would highly suggest reading the instructions because it covers burn times and the factors that determine how long a tank will last. The Big Buddy has two heating panels and I thought that both would be on anytime the heater was on but two panels are on only at the high setting. If I hadn't read the instructions I may have thought the unit was defective. There are also two propane bottles and there are facts on how they work. Just saying. Thanks for the instructional and your efforts to make it.
Good information and thanks. For me, it doesn't matter if the tank is inside. When it gets freezing here in TENN, I run my Mister Buddy off that size tank day and night on the low setting and it will last me about 4 or 5 days. Does great. I Zone Heat my living room and sleep in the Lazyboy, which allows me to let the rest of the house go cold. I do think it is cheaper to heat one big room than an entire house.
Propane hours can be calculated. Assuming that your bottle was filled to the proper amount then you should get maximum 105.25 hours run time. A 20 pound propane bottle holds about 421,000 BTU's. Divide that by the rated appliance. For instance your Big Buddy should give you: 421,000 / 4,000 = 105.25 hours 421,000 / 9,000 = 46.8 hours 421,000 / 18,000 = 23.4 hours

I use a 20 lb tank to operate my steel fire table. We tested for longevity, by the lowest setting. We got 15 hrs total run time. Then, we tested on high settings and got only 9 hrs total run time.
I use a Big Buddy with the quick connect 12ft hose and regulator at the tank (tank is outside, with the hose run to inside). Been my primary heat source for years and I track the run time. On a Blue Rhino, AmGas etc swap tank (short filled) I consistently get 40-hrs on Med, 61-hrs on Low. On my personal tanks (fully filled) I consistently get 59-hrs on Med, 69-hrs on Low. The numbers for low seem wonky, but I don't think these heaters burn very efficiently on low. I run on Med for the most part, hardly ever use High except at start up to heat up the unit fully, then kick it back to Med. I also suspect that the swap tanks are not filled consistently, which has an effect on the numbers. It's not hard to answer. The regular 9000 BTU Buddy heater hooked to a 20 pound cylinder will give you 92 hours on low. 41 hours on high. This assumes that you have a full 4 gallons of propane in the tank. The Blue Rhino type sellers usually under fill their tanks, so you may get less on a convenience store propane tank. The *Big* Buddy heater can produce double output - 18k BTU versus 9k for the regular Buddy heater. So if you have a Big Buddy running on high, you would half the 41 hours. You'll get about 20 hours on high. Low setting is the same for both. Big Buddy medium setting would be 41 hours. It's the same as regular Buddy high setting.

Not for extended use…. Get it really hot then cut it off to pilot and have vents to get fresh air in and then repeat when it gets too cold

Yes, it is safe with adequate ventilation.
That heater has an internal fan that uses batteries do not use it?

(2) 1-lb bottles: 4.8 hours on med
(2) 1-lb bottles: 2.4 hours on high

20 lb tank: about 41 hours on med
20-lb tank: about 20 hours on high

That's much closer to what I'm getting!

If you can insulate the room it would stay warmer longer.
If your propane cylinder is expired exchange it they will not fill.
