- Clayton @SAWDUSTLUGNUTS is getting cold in his shop so we help him by building a custom diy wood stove out of a free propane tank!
#89built #welding #woodstove
Go check out @sawdustandlugnuts to see us struggle getting Claytons old stove out and this one installed!!
Hmmm did look like an odd spot where his old stove was.
Before you cut into a ny flamavle tank hook the exhaust from a gas engine to the tank and run it. the exhaust is primarily CO2 (carbpm dioxode). just let the engine tun, make the first cuts with a cutoff disc 0.050" +/-. it works nicely and makes the door fit easily. Heads up on your squeeil cage fan, That typw of fan needs a down stream restriction to keep from overloading the electric motor. you can run the fan with an amp meeter on the motor then add restriction till the motor draws about 5 to 10 percent less current. If you don't do this the fan motor will fail, so setting the current will make the fan will last forever. (with an occasional oiling of the motor bushings) Great video! Deffently find some yellow header paint for a minion!
I welded gas tanks from cars that way for years. Thanks for watching
I work at a refinery here in utah- propane can have water in it- we have to test for water before it goes out the door- and yes I have seen water in propane!
Crazy
I did not know that. Thanks for the info
Your dad is more than certified to read a level. He is a small town, farm raised, self taught, self-employed, Grandpa, get it done kind of person. No better kinda man for creating stuff out of junk.
My dad is the same way, so I know how you grew up. My dad made a wood stove with a coil inside of it to heat water for our home and many other things to make life more simple and handy to live the country life.
Awesome thanks
Growing up in Rural Northern Michigan I am all about Repurpose Recycle and Re-Use..Also when my Father and I built his shop stove we had similar issues with the pipe sealing..We used "Rock Wool" to fill the gap no smoke ever gets through and its fireproof..Also for the doors to seal them we took the extra step and added door seal rope like you would in a indoor wood stove..Not that anyone understands heating your house with wood anymore..lmao!
My brother that got killed several years ago taught me how to weld when I was 10 and we built around 300 stoves over the years for homes and we used the same rope to seal the doors
32°F and 8" of snow up here in NH,
The next town over got nothing but rain.
Who knew?
The weather man definitely didn't. Never does.
Party cloudy with a chance of sun or snow.
We have the same weather man here
Gentlemen, you've outdone yourself, what a great stove. Too much to comment on, my favourite episode so far and a shout out to another cool channel, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks
That's a killer stove I have a barrel stove in my shop but that stove right there looks way better I think I'll be building one of those
I built the one in Sean’s shop over 30 years ago and it still works great. We would have gone through several barrel stoves in 30 years
@ I am definitely gonna build one of those stoves looks great to me
@@Keinandrew3one and done they work for years
In Florida it is more turning Propane tanks into Super sized BBQ's & Smokers
I’m planning on building one for a bbq restaurant here soon
Hey it’s 10 degrees in Minnesota with a windchill of -1 on a Black Friday morning! Thanks for warming me up with great content.
Sounds chili you better keep the cold over that way!! Haha
Wow! Stay inside
I really enjoy watching your channel. You & your dad make a great team. I'm sorry to hear what happened to your dad's brother.
Thank you so much
Thanks
I am amazed and the stuff you guys get for free. Not to mention the stuff you can do with it. Great Vid.
I hope you fellas had a nice Thanksgiving and hopefully you’re taking the rest of the weekend off with the family as I am
We are! Thanks for watching
Sean I really enjoy watching you and your dad working together! Never take it for granted! You guys need to sell plans on building wood stoves! Please keep the videos coming!
When my Dad quit farming he took to repairing home appliances. I worked with him for a couple of years. Best years of our lives.
Love the videos. I did heat and air conditioning 45 years before I retired. Check the temp next to your roof sometime after your stove has been on for a while. You may be surprised how much heat has gone to the roof. I have mounted fans in several shops to move that heat back to floor. You might wind up chopping less wood.
Great idea. Thanks
@@albertmcalister9066 interesting to know.
I take a junk grill and ripp out the valve and hose to empty or air out the tank, use a sawsall to cut off the brass fittings,
The brass won't conduct heat as bad and it's spark proof for just this reason.
Watching you is an absolute pleasure. Your range of skills and experience reminds me of my father and grandfathers who could turn their hands to anything. Big thumbs up from a friend in the UK
Thanks
Love the channel, so awesome to see guys with the ingenuity and skills to create, instead of simply running out to buy like the majority of people do these days! I GUARANTEE that wood stove will last longer and work better than 90% of the stoves you could buy that cost thousands of dollars.
Absolutely.
You got a dam good cutting hand Sean good and smooth
I absolutely love backyard DIY!
70 yrs. still love doing different things.
Clayton is a legend and he also has a great channel
He is a magician when it comes to woodworking
Another great job!
I need to make a mini one of those, great video guys. Keep them coming.
I have a 35 gallon propane tank I’m going to use to build my neighbor a smaller version with for his shop
That's a good ole truck
Love my old ford
Sean , you and your Dad are genius 😊 very talented
Thanks so much
Wow, that is one heck of a stove, should keep things toasty warm for many years to come, well done guys!
Cheers from Tokyo!
Thanks
Great job again.
Morning! I watch your channel mostly on a big screen so I can't comment. Instead, I will "like" every comment hopefully to drive more hits on the algorithm? One item I would need to add for my shop heater would be a shelf for the campfire coffee pot. I drink coffee all day to get my vitamin C, caffeine! Thank you and Dad for the video.
You're the best!
That’s a great idea
Turned out awesome now everyone is going to want one
Right
Love watching you guys work. Amazing fabricators!
Much appreciated!
Thanks
Farmer ingenuity always works, well done.
That a great idea! I've seen a bunch of smokers and grills made with propane tanks but never a stove. Awesome job guys!👍😁
Thanks
@frostys64 You are welcome! I'm just stating the obvious.
I built an oil injection furnace using an airless paint sprayer ,I made the injector from half inch pipe with homemade brass nozzles, it heated a 5000 square foot building easily, and it was not as noisy as the commercial waste oil furnaces that we had. It's been working for 5 years now.
Good idea
That’s awesome good job.
Wow what a challenging project building this stove out of a propane tank was! It was good that Shane had already built one before so that experience helped a lot in the fabrication of Clayton's. Father and Son to the rescue. Good video and content as usual!
Thanks for watching!
Sitting here enjoying a cup of coffee looking outside with approximately 4 inches of fresh snow ,it's -20 C (-4F) watching another great episode of 89 built . Thanks Sean and Shane 🙏 keep up the creative content 👍
Very nice!
I’m old just reading this. Thanks for watching
Great stove guys.
Great video!
Love what you do. Keep them coming.

Thank you! Will do!
Thank you
There was a lot of thought put into the design, and then the building of that heater for sure. Nice . Thanks for sharing . As always, stay safe.
You bet
Thanks for the video guys hope u had a great Thanksgiving
Thanks! It was great
I like those air drafts that's pretty slick
They are easy to build too
@ soon as my son shows up were gonna build one. This will be a good project for us
@@Keinandrew3 awesome! You will love it
That is one heck of a stove. Such nice work done on it too.
Great project fellows,This will help to save alot of time.
Thanks
I enjoy watching you guys doing innovative and real stuff.
Great team work.
Thank you very much!
Block half of that opening off on that fan and it will blow twice as hard! Kinda makes a gaurs so you don’t put your fingers in there! Great build, you two are awesome!
Thanks for watching
Windy and colder than a welldiggers ankle here in Pennsylvania 😅🥶❄🔥🌬
I’m cold just thinking about it. Thanks for watching
Another great learning session! Good to see Hunter also!
Yes it was thanks

I like that old truck too
That is an awesome stove! You fellas are quite the fabrication team 👌
Thanks 👍
Awesome stove! Great job!!

It was a minute when it's your hand getting hot ✓
Jack of all traits👍
Now, this video was cool to watch. You guys did an awesome job.
Thanks
Cool stove

Awesome stove heck yeah
Thanks
Your dad’s a pretty amazing guy no wonder you’ve turned out so well.
One of your best shows, Keep them coming.
You guys are awesome to watch, and it's funny we love your show!
Thanks
Thanks
Great job guys. A lot of work put in that stove should last for years & years.
Thanks
another great video
Another great video buddy!!
Did I call it or what😂? I was so happy to see you work with Clayton. I really want to see more of his content.
I’ve been helping Clayton for years. But now Sean has this Chanel we can show some of it.
Looks like the stove should work pretty well. Well made and should be pretty efficient.
Thanks
Super episode guys. That was so interesting to watch. keep up the great work
Thanks! Will do!
Thanks
Nice stove!! That will last 100 years!! Great way to re use stuff!!
Thanks great video!!
👍🏻😎
Thanks
Cool!
You guys are incredible craftsman! I enjoy the variety of the channel.
My dad made a waste oil burner with an old wheel. He let the oil drip in the low spot between the rim and the hub. When it got going, the air coming up through the holes in the wheel would make colored flames. The oil would burn before it hit the wheel.
That’s cool
I bet your dad would like the arosswelding channel here on RUclips!
I thought I was the only person saving the old 2 speed fans from scrap air boxes. I have a 1960s fan still working in garage.
Awesome! I try to save everything I think I might can reuse sometimes I get in trouble for it though
That is one neat stove. Love the design! Also think it's pretty cool that you guys hand made all the little bits like the hinges and the handle. I never realized how thick the walls are on one of those propane tanks. I think it would be interesting to see how you would design the waste oil burning mechanism. I hope someday to have a need for such a heating system.
"Nice"
Great video. You Gents are amazing.
Shane's shop is never cold!
It’s getting hotter all the time maybe it’s as he gets older!!
@@89Built😂
I know it’s about time for you to bring something down to rebuild
Just thought I’d pass it along. The smell is from what’s called Mercaptan. Propane has no smell so they put Mercaptan in it so if there’s a leak you can detect it!! I will say this. You guys are very gutsy cutting the tank just blowing air in it!! lol.
Did you tell the kids not to look when you weld???
Good job on the stove
That turned out awesome good job as usual guys
I thought hunter went off to school. idk. Ill check in over there.
PS need to get your own 89built hat & shirt to wear!!
There in the works
@frostys64 gotcha
(If u can't tell by now) I comment to help with algorithm stuff. Obviously, i gain some info as well.
Hey hey hey:) you can patent that stove ..looks mighty nice
That would be cool
It must be nice to live in a place where you don't have to ask permission or pay a fee to install a wood stove .
It is. Thanks for watching
Nice
We always run a car exhaust into a vessel to purge fumes while cutting. Either it works or we are very lucky
We do the same when welding active tanks
the King Kong of stoves! what about a safety grille on the fan and high temp paint on the stove?
any plans of mass producing and selling them?
I'm suprised fitting a draw isn't the go to thing for ash removal. The fire i built for my shed is fairly small but I built it around a circular draw that sits at the bottom and it can be pulled out and emptyed whilst the fire is blazing away or when its out. Its not the best build in the world and it was a temporary build 10 years ago. Gotta rebuild it as I've got tons of old oil I wanna burn so that this winters project, well 1 of them. .
The only problem we have found with that idea is that we burn lots of used oil and with an ash tray the oil runs through and makes a huge mess on the floor.
How heavy was that? Awesome job on working out the little details to make it work
About 300 lbs
air it with a leaf blowr
Awesome wood burning stove for sure!! I have a shop that is 60’x80’x16’ and I’ve been trying to figure out how to keep it warm during the winter months for sure!! I’m thinking if I could get maybe a 250 to 300 gallon propane tank to make one that just might help keep my shop warm along with the infloor heating that I have setup also!!?? What would be your thoughts for me??
