- @EdBolian of @VINwiki fame has never hated a vehicle so much as the 6-wheel Range Rover. It was his dusty nemesis on Car Trek 10. On the other hand, I love the 6-wheel Range Rover and have now officially purchased it from Ed with the challenge that I can make him love it with a few modifications and fixes.
Watch as I make plans to upgrade the beast, and as we test it on a dirt hill climb and in a 0-60 test versus the mighty Cannonball Ambulance.

If you're going to convert it to a Chevy engine, convert the differentials to Dana's. Dana's have pass through pinions available for dual axle set ups
A Ford engine would be better.

John, hearing you call it the Strange Rover gave me a chuckle, when I was working in the automotive glass industry we had nicknames for almost every car out there and we called all Range Rovers Strange Rovers.

Maybe a Rolls-Royce 6.75 instead of an LS? Keeping it British and making it even more unique.
I think there is the way to use offset axles so you have 3 driveshafts going into 1 seletable transfer case with 3 sticks that can select high, low, and neutral for each axle. Put selectable Eaton ELockers in each axle so you have true awd / 6x6.
Some Fords (or... Mazdas?) had pulsators too, they just don't look quite like that. It's also extremely common to delete them on those vehicles.

You need a through axle in place of the second axle.
That is an option. Articulation will be a concern. The axles are very close together.
Take a look at how Foley 6x6 does it.😉
I'm thinking about building a 6x6 International Scout II so i will be watching this.
Fuel pressure damper was also a thing on older Porsches
I'd swap in a Rover 5.0l used in the TVRs/Marcos/Lichfield Land Rovers or a Jag 5.0l S/C just to keep it somewhat British 😊

It just looks so cool. Kinda like a budget Brabus 6x6. If it wasn't so mechanically foreign to me, I'd want one. Don't really like venturing away from my Cummins Dodges.

What about electrifying the extra wheels? You could use two motors to allow torque vectoring and tighter turning. Plus it would add the power that you want and you could even let it run on electric only, like a PHEV.

You should check out the Northern California rovers club we have a few members who have built some pretty wild RRC's would be cool to see you bring it by one of the events once done to benchmark it vs another LS swapped rig or another Range rover classic haha. Looking forward to this build!

Hey man, just wondering if you have any interest in the upcoming Rudi Klein auction?... would have loved for you to have filmed a tour and talk in his junkyard stacked full of sweet classics and rare engines, parts etc.
Can’t wait to see it rolling around town under its new found power! Definitely make sure to test the hill climb and 0-60 times before making it 6x6 to see how much of an improvement the swap alone makes. BTW, any plans to swap the tranny, or sticking with the stock 4HP22?
I am interested to see which direction you go with the 6x6 drivetrain. A tandemdifferential would be the most straightforward option (splits torque 50/50 over two axles), since they are also used in similar semi truck drivetrains. As mentioned before, the distance could be an issue here, mainly because of the driveshafts.
I dunno. If I was going to bother engine swapping this thing I'd want the power to start with a 5. As someone else has pretty much said just throw it in a lake and Ed will bite your hand off for it.

LS swap seems a bit boring for this, surely a bit more performance can be squeezed out of a rover V8?
Are you going to put a different transmission in the Rover? I don't think the original trans would be able to cope with the extra power
The 4L80 will probably be the transmission, but it will depend on what adapter we get.
Hello Ficarra, I don’t know how often you read your comments but I have a few questions and hopefully you can answer.
My neighbor has an unrunning 1974 Porsche 914 LE, which from my understanding means Limited Edition, and I’m pretty sure they made only made 1,000. It comes with a unique bumber, rocker panel, and a 2 liter engine instead of the standard 1.8 liter. And really awesome orange wheels.
I’m hoping that I can shrewdly negotiate a good deal with them and Purchase the car, but I wanted to know if you had any facts about them or if you even knew about them, thanks

Wow that RR is slow. My 69 Series 2 lwb land rover with a 300tdi and 4 speed does 16.4 secs 0-60.
