As a convert to Orthodox Christianity, I look at Gibbes life with awe. Not that he worked for "Royals", even people I consider saints, but that after the experience, the shock and devastation and grief, Mr Givves should come to need to draw even closer to God. Instead of the, sadly common today, anger and pride response of seeking closure and putting "it" all behind him, Gibbes does not retreat. Oh no, indeed. He steps up his relationship with the Almighty. That is the picture of the man I'm taking with me as we step into Lent.
It's actually a very strong and vivid sign that shows how truly and purely God-fearing people the last Romanovs were. @@sophk8457 Tsar Nicholas II is so slandered and deliberately mispresented for more than 100 years now. 12:50 Orthodox tradition does not include "last rites", at least not as last rites were traditionally understood by medieval, pre-modern and modern Roman Catholics. I've read that RC theology has changed its understanding of unction in the last 3 decades or so, but I don't know how true that is. That said, it's typical for a priest to visit people in the hospital, pray some of the prayers for recovery from health contained in the priest's service book, anoint the sick person with holy oil, and/or give them Holy Communion. Confession is also possible, of course. Depends on the circumstances and the strength/capability of the person.
You are absolutely correct concerning “ Last rites” in the Catholic Church. The anointing of the sick is administered by the priest through the laying on of the hands and the anointing with holy oil to those who are sick, suffering or elderly. It is not reserved only for those who are dying. The prayers prayed are for healing in mind, soul and body. The rite includes an opportunity for confession and Holy Communion. Lastly in current liturgical Catholic practice, “ Last Rites” consists of the final reception of Holy Communion and the Apostolic pardon and blessing which is conceded by the Holy See to those who are dying .

You might watch the 90 minutes documentary directed by Patrick Cabouat and Christian Lvowski, « In the turmoil of the Russian revolution « , the whole film is about the last dans of the Romanov family and Pierre Gilliard, the Swiss governor to the tsarévitch Alexey.
I doubt Father Sydney Gibbs, a Priest in the Russian Orthodox Church would be supportive of a a woman being a Priest in a Christian Church. This is not a practice authorized either in Holy Scripture or in the Russian Orthodox Church but is much more common (especially in Protestant Churches) today in the secular world in which we now live.
Kerensky should have allowed the Tsar and his family to move to Crimea instead of Siberia. The Bolsheviks were almost finished when he decided to arm them. He is the main reason for the royal massacre.

Pity the things he so lovingly cared for disappeared …rather stolen or sold off
12:50 Orthodox tradition does not include "last rites", at least not as last rites were traditionally understood by medieval, pre-modern and modern Roman Catholics.
This is interesting....I just watched in Netflix the movie, The Last Tsar of Russia, and it is all about this Family of Romanov...
Thanks for watching this, Timothy. Unfortunately, the Netflix series has many historical inconsistencies. If you are interested, then here's a great film (Russian with English subtitles) that follows the last chapter of the Romanov family history (it's in 2 parts): ruclips.net/p/PLEM95JSxM6FR-miwyY82OVCLCaaCfPcZF
Let us know how you like it! Best wishes!
Thanks for the Info 👍
This English Tudor was never mentioned in the 5 books I read about the Romanov family
I find it unlikely that oil lamps caused icons to weep. I think there was a more mystical cause.

At least Father Nicholas lived long enough to honor the memory of the last of Russia's Romanov family whom he devoted his life until the end.
God bless the Romanov family!
Think there's lot of ppl, whom blame the "English cousins " for the imperial family's death! Know,I do.
A beautifully told tale of a man who had witnessed so much heartbreak. You can see it in his eyes. I am so glad the Romanov children had such a dedicated tutor who obviously loved them very much. Thank you for thisan incredible video.
Who is the narrator? I'm torn between Mirren and Redgrave
subtitled in spanish please
I would love to have a set down with that nurse to ask her a very near and dear question in private.
Maybe he knew very well what he was saying. Blessings .

Something must have frightened him enough to become a man of God. Maybe it were the majority in a revolution against his former employers.
Excellent presentation, it's a shame Anastasia's pendant was bought by a blaspheming jew
