What an absolute statement: This car is absolutely gorgeous! The more modern Chrysler Sebrings & Crossfires had the ‘groove’ lines on their hoods. Always an interesting detail. Aside from obvious safety features lacking, this era of automotive design & creativity will never be repeated. That goodness you, Lou, and the owners of these type cars, are willing to share their cars with us. Much appreciated!! Thanks Lou for a great Saturday morning treat!
Oh, some cars were not too safe from that era, but these cars were of a decidedly stout design & unitized construction..an impact anywhere was transferred to most all parts of the body. Very strong indeed. "Extra care in engineering", was a Chrysler motto and they truly meant it..not just for the car, but the passengers, as well.

Hi, Lou! Well, this must have been an especially exciting moment for Claude, not only to have his freshly purchased 300G delivered, but also to have it done on camera with a famous classic car show host and take his first drive with him! As for Claude preferring the '61 with the tailfins to the '62 without them, to each his own, but most people by then thought the tailfin craze was getting out of control, so there was no way around it. Chrysler HAD to get rid of them! (Even more so Imperial!) Plymouth had already done just that in '61. Riding in the back bucket seat of this car would have been a rare experience. Probably the closest some people have come to that would be riding in the back of a second generation Camaro or Firebird, only this one has more room! Many thanks to you and Claude for inviting us along on this maiden voyage! P.S. I noticed he was wearing a White Sox cap, but I thought most WS fans were South Siders! Just saying!
I worked at a Chrysler Imperial Plymouth dealership in high school. I got a chance to drive this and other 300’s. Awesome power and top end performance!

Thank you for another excellent classic car review, and the wonderful memories. My uncle bought a 300G new in 1961 also in white. I was a young child then, but I remember sitting in the back seat while he hit the accelerator going up the Highland Park hill in Brooklyn. The car took off like a rocket! In '64 he traded it for the new redesigned Thunderbird, which was also a very futuristic car for the time. But there were many times I'd hear him say he wished he never traded in that Chrysler.
My dad had a 1960 300F in black and the tan leather interior. I was 18 at the time and I thought my dad was the coolest dad ever. 413 with the ram tuned carbs. Big and beautiful! Thanks for the memories!
Lots to love with this 300! I'm sure Claude will have many more fond memories with his car, but the first ones are priceless. Thanks for including us, Lou!

My thanks Lou...Claude is like a kid with a new toy...and why not. This is my favourite Chrysler, the 300G. Space age inspired looks with that spectacular astrodome dash and with factory air included with those porthole vents completes the dash presentation with all those chrome buttons. Then you lift the hood...and WOW...those cross rams with their presence look the real deal. Claude's 300G along with Jay Leno's are the two outstanding Exner designed cars of the American mid century motoring era.
more than 'happy' lights, I'd call them deranged! and I affectionately say that as the owner of a '59 Lincoln. The F and the G crossram years are the best years of the letter cars IMHO...I used to like the F more cause of its more cohesive styling, but now I prefer the G because it is just so wild. Just a lot going on in these cars...made for adults...the owner/driver couple, and their double date, for a night on the town. I drove a '60 Windsor convertible down the Pacific coast many years ago, and well recall that incredible dashboard...one of the most unique and interesting ever made. Congrats to the new owner
Hi Steve S, "The F and the G crossram years are the best years of the letter cars" High praise :-) Happy to read this one brings back memories of the Windsor you drove, Lou
A Chrysler in white paint always gets a second look from me. What it is about that, I am not sure. But it just works. Great design, never saw this model in person. TY for showing it for us.
This car had more power than was even available in '64 when the GTO came out! There is something about the pre-426H/440 big blocks that just gives me a real good feeling inside.

Always loved the forward look era from Chrysler. The instrument panel with the electroluminescent lighting feature was an innovation that has been copied by other companies over the years.
This is a beautiful, beautiful car. My opinion is the era of the tail fins was THE best. That is breathtaking. She should be in a heated, carpeted garage. 🤗

Claude and Lou - Great 300-G video today! Nice that Claude's G has the upgraded 7-button Golden Tone radio, not found on many of these cars. It's also interesting to see that the deck lid's underside bracing still has the same holes and stamping to mount the hubcap as did the 1960 deck lids. All the 1960 Chryslers had 14" wheels, so the 300-F's Flight-Sweep ("toilet seat") deck lid could accommodate the F hubcaps, along with those of the other models. For '61, the 300-G wheels grew to 15", so their hubcaps couldn't fit in the stamped '60-style deck lid. All other '61 Chryslers still had 14" wheels, so the toilet seat trunk was an available option, in place of the ribbed deck lid seen on Claude's wonderful 300-G.
Incredible! the amount of detail and design Incorporated in that masterpiece is astounding. When designers actually designed instead of regurgitating indistinguishable jelly bean like clones motoring down the roads. Pretty sure Claude will have many more happy minutes with that beautiful rolling masterpiece 🌟
Haha Jelly Beann CLones-- you know how many times I have clicked on a white SUV and cursed my key fob when it actually turned out that it was a jelly bean clone and MY car was 1/2 a block away?!!!
If you ever drive a 300 of this era up to 1970 or so, you will be shocked. They handle like nimble trucks or large SUV's of today. Chrysler innovated torsion bar suspension, way back in the early 50's. My 64 and 66 handled amazingly well and didn't have that floating feel of a Cadillac, Buick, or Lincoln. They were so far ahead of their time it's just sad what happened in the late 60's and early 70's as all US manufacturers failed to adapt to competition.
Those Chrysler boys knew how to build them back then! Just look at the curved indent that runs up and down the body of the car! For a car that was over 2 tons, they were one of the fastest production cars of the day, esp. with that optional cross-air induction engine. Look at old NASCAR video’s and you’ll see many of these on the track. You the best on You Tube Lou! Thx again!

Not terrible to check or change. These have inner fender cutouts held on by 8 bolts on each side. Jack up the car, or put it on a hoist, unbolt the cutouts, and the plugs are easily visible. Only the #7 plug is a little tight by the steering column.
You talk about a lot of busted knuckles. Getting those carburetor just right was quite the job also but when right, that car purred like a kitten and accelerated like a jagua!
Oh Lou...another *STUNNER!* ....Loveee this car! That side profile shot is pure art....and those fins... *WOW!* ...Tail fins, bigger the better, get me every time. Claude is very fortunate to own this beautiful *WHITE KNIGHT!* :D

Truly an outstanding machine Lou! So much beauty and quality craftsmanship poured into this car. I love it! Really enjoyed watching this video. Thank you Lou! Back in the day that car was indeed the "Bankers Hot Rod" The average Joe could not afford to own it.
What a sweet ride. '61 was last year of tail fins for Chrysler and works so well here. Low roof line also very cool. Powerful V8. I would be spending a lot of time in this one. Thanks for vid!

The optional shortram 400 hp 413s were not available to the average buyer. 9 300-Fs were built with the shortrams, and we think even fewer 300-Gs were built with these. The 1960 4-speed Fs and 1961 3-speed Gs were sent to another shop to have their stick shift linkages and shortrams installed. These were such extremely limited offerings, that Chrysler didn't assign an option number to them, and there's no identification on the build broadcast sheet, either. Authenticating these cars is best done by comparing their factory build date to their ship date, which was typically a couple weeks or more. By comparison, the 'scheduled production' to 'ship' date difference on my 300-F was 8 days.
@@noelhastalis6785 Ahh, "The rest of the story!" Thanks. I fig'd the number was low. ..so was the 400 hp car as quick as the quickest letter car..as in the 300M of circa 2000? Ik, it's surprising!
@@gzuzsavz Though I've seen 3 of the 4 existing 400 hp shortram 300-Fs in person, I've never driven or ridden in one. Peak torque kicked in at 3600 rpm, vs at 2800 rpm for the 375 hp longram cars, and I've read/heard that they're not as quick off the line. They were really built to compete in the annual Daytona Speed Weeks flying mile competition. It's interesting that the 3-speed stick 400 hp 300-G cars ran slightly quicker at Daytona January 1961, but a piece of trim flew off 3 of the 4 400 hp 300-Gs, and so were disqualified. The rules stated that the complete car had to run the flying mile in both directions, and so failed when they lost a trim piece. Crazy! 1961 was the final year the Daytona Speed Weeks event was held.

What a great Car. Must be nice, car delivered .To me, the 300's were the first muscle cars (i know intermediate vs Full size,,,who cares). If i'm not mistaken, the letter designated the 'year'. Count back and Chrysler offered a 300 before Chevy offered the 265, their first v8 ! Fallen Angel keeps springing to mind for this beauty,,,white but a Mean Streak. Thanks, Lou !

Claude has a outstanding 300 there! I agree love those wings and the ribs on the deck lid. I was always amazed at the design of those Chryslers in the late 50's and early 60's. I love this car in the white it is also gorgeous in that red color too. I think the white is a very cool color and a very distinguished color. Those options on this unit were so unique to this car. That engine Chrysler used back then amazed me on how they operate an perform. Just a outstanding unit Lou I enjoyed the maiden voyage of this awesome 300! Thanks for sharing Claude and Lou!
Great ride. So many cool things on this car from the fins to the swivel seats to that amazing dash cluster and steering wheel. Then top it off with cross ram. Very cool car for sure. Thank you for sharing.
I was hooked the minute the car backed out of the truck...that engine growl! Man alive....it is perfection! Not a big fan of the front end canted headlights. Not my fav, but the rest was spectacular! Typical crazy dash from the time at Chrysler! Love the bucket seats in the back! Great backend too with the fins. The turn signal lever would take a lot to get used too, but I Love this car!!

👍🏻 Thanks Lou, amazing car, that engine looks wild, very smooth. One thing I noticed is that the front bumper wasn't aligned correctly with the body, it pointed up slightly. You can see this by looking at the front from the side. The horizontal line of the body and bumper are not parallel. I'm sure it's a minor adjustment, I'm just ocd with things being straight being in printing and graphics.

I once since this same model at a junkyard with my best friend. It was so cool back then (1978). And it is still so very cool now.

Just Beautiful, I ran across one outside of Telluride Co. for sale exactly like it. All white totally original no rust no dents, $ 11K, I declined, kicking myself in the butt. Keep in mind this was 1983, still a pretty good deal. Thanks for posting.

"The Banker's Hotrod".... Love it!
These beautiful 300's are such a complete package with the fins, chrome, luxury, and power.
GREAT VIDEO LOU.
Hi TCT9MM, Happy to read you "Love it!" :-) "The complete package" NICE! Lou
Hi Mike, "Claude is like a kid with a new toy...and why not" You're right about that :-) Happy to read this one is a favorite of yours :-) Lou
more than 'happy' lights, I'd call them deranged! and I affectionately say that as the owner of a '59 Lincoln.
Hi 55points, Happy to read you enjoy this one in white, and my pleasure sharing this one with you, you're welcome, Lou
This car had more power than was even available in '64 when the GTO came out! There is something about the pre-426H/440 big blocks that just gives me a real good feeling inside.

Fabulous fabulous fabulous. I run a 2008 SRT 8 300C, and love the heritage.
High praise :-)
Always loved the forward look era from Chrysler. The instrument panel with the electroluminescent lighting feature was an innovation that has been copied by other companies over the years.
Hi Chris, Happy to read "Always loved the forward look era from Chrysler" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
This car is art on wheels
High praise for this design :-)
This is a beautiful, beautiful car. My opinion is the era of the tail fins was THE best. That is breathtaking. She should be in a heated, carpeted garage. 🤗

Now that's a dashboard!
:-)
Hi Noel, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou
Incredible! the amount of detail and design Incorporated in that masterpiece is astounding. When designers actually designed instead of regurgitating indistinguishable jelly bean like clones motoring down the roads. Pretty sure Claude will have many more happy minutes with that beautiful rolling masterpiece 🌟
Hi X K, Happy to read you enjoy the details of this car :-) You're right, I believe Claude will enjoy this one for many years to come, Lou
Thx again!
Hi Brady Dog, Enjoy reading the details you see, and thank you for sharing your knowledge. Appreciate the kind words about being the best on RUclips :-) You're welcome, Lou

I've always loved the look of that cross ram intake but try changing out the plugs on one of them.
Hi Bob, Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts. Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you enjoy. Lou
Not terrible to check or change. These have inner fender cutouts held on by 8 bolts on each side. Jack up the car, or put it on a hoist, unbolt the cutouts, and the plugs are easily visible. Only the #7 plug is a little tight by the steering column.
@@noelhastalis6785 still a pain in the ass my friend
You talk about a lot of busted knuckles. Getting those carburetor just right was quite the job also but when right, that car purred like a kitten and accelerated like a jagua!
The Chrysler's "Letter cars" are incredible. Elegant, of course, but brutal beasts! Just a wolf in sheep's clothing. Nice video, Lou.

Hi Mr. Johnson, Call me Lou :-) High praise for this car :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
@@loucostabile Lou it is! An amazing car, omgosh
Very nice. Like to see more of Claude's collection.

Hi Steve, Happy to read you think this car is "outstanding" :-) Glad to have you along for the ride, and you're welcome, Lou

Hi Frank Biz, Happy to read you enjoy this "amazing" car :-) You have a good eye on the front bumper which does needing alignment, and we're going to correct that, Lou
Typically, this would be caused by the car being towed by its front bumper. Remedy will be to tweak the bumper brackets.

When i was 17 i seen one and i have always wondered what type of car it was and to see the instrument cluster working it grabbed an old memory. They don’t get much respect. But i think its gorgeous
Did the car come with a bag of quarters so he could shift that jukebox transmission ? My Dad had a Winsor 4 door always liked the instrument cluster as a kid.
